Senator Crane Declares for 3rd Congressional District
Flanked by legislative allies, Senator Mike Crane announced his candidacy for the 3rd Congressional District vacated by retiring Congressman Lynn Westmoreland.
Surrounded by Representative David Stover and Senators Marty Harbin, Bruce Thompson, Bill Heath, Josh McKoon, and William Ligon, Senator Crane was praised as one who will “bring comfort to the afflicted and afflict the comfortable.” Senator McKoon urged 3rd District conservatives to unite around the new candidate, claiming that forces under the Gold Dome seemed to divide them.
Poking fun at the uncertainty regarding which legislator was announcing, Senator McKoon announced his own campaign for re-election.
Senator Crame framed his campaign around the image of a broken Washington. Criticizing the relative weakness of the US House of Representatives, he praised a “small but effective” group working to restore the perceived Constitutional balance. These representatives are “calling for reinforcements” and he intends to answer the call.

It’s the end of the world by R.E.M seems oddly appropriate right now. I can’t stand Crane. Hopefully someone else will run against him in the primary.
It’s pretty obvious Crane has had his sights on either Congressman Westmoreland’s seat or the Mansion since he started his political career in 2010. Unless Westmoreland’s team offers a strong alternative, it will be very difficult to defeat Crane in the primaries — and this part of the state has no real Democratic presence. Win the R primary: you’re in.
“bring comfort to the afflicted and afflict the comfortable.”
What in the world does this mean?
Circular logic, perpetual job security.
Once he brings comfort to the afflicted, they become comfortable and thereby become targets for him to afflict whereby they become afflicted and he brings them comfort and they then become comfortable and again the target of his afflictions…ad infinitum.
