Hello from Athens

Hello, all! My name is Shelley, and I’m so excited to be an intern at GeorgiaPol. I’m a junior at the University of Georgia majoring in English.

I was born in Columbus, Georgia. However, my family does not hail from the Peach State originally. In 1994 my parents immigrated to the United States from South Africa. Many family gatherings have involved discussing political issues–often comparing issues in the USA to those in countries overseas. This state and nation have given me some incredible opportunities, and I am so proud to be an American citizen.

My interests are wide: I’m an active member of College Republicans at UGA and enjoy running a few miles nearly every day. When I am not studying or writing, you will likely find me in the company of a good book and a cup of tea.

I am honored and excited to intern at this site. I look forward to the knowledge and wisdom that I may glean from the editors, writers, and readers of GeorgiaPol–and I hope that my perspective will also prove insightful.
