Tuesday, March 8th marked the launch of the 5th annual Legal Food Frenzy. Attorney General Sam Olens, Young Lawyers Division director Jack Long, Georgia Food Bank Association Executive Director Danah Craft and representatives from Georgia’s 8 regional food banks joined together at the state Capitol to kick off the event. The Legal Food Frenzy is a statewide food drive; lawyers across Georgia collaborate to raise funds and food for Georgia’s food banks in a friendly competition. This year’s food frenzy will take place April 18, 2016 – April 29, 2016.
The funds and food raised in the frenzy help food banks keep up with the increased food assistance needed when schools are out of session. More than 60% of school children in Georgia qualify for a free or reduced-price lunch, but few have access to the program during school holidays. “The timing of this competition comes at a critical time for the regional food banks to help them meet the increased demand for food during the summer months when kids are out of school,” stated Craft.
The Legal Food Frenzy is organized by a number of young lawyers across the state. This year’s co-chairs are Lisa Robinson, Justin Oliverio, Justin Purvis, and Daniel Burroughs. Registrations and details are available at www.galegalfoodfrenzy.org .
All attorneys in Georgia are invited and encouraged to participate in the food drive. “The Legal Food Frenzy presents a wonderful opportunity for the legal community to come together to positively impact the lives of Georgians all across the state.” said Long. The food frenzy has donated the equivalent of more than 3.7 million pounds of food since its first year.
