Morning Reads for Tuesday, April 26, 2016
Good morning! Today is the last day to register to vote in the Georgia general primary on May 24. If you’re reading this site, you’re probably already registered to vote – but who knows, maybe you’ve moved recently, or changed your name? If so, click that link, Princess Consuela Bananahammock!
- Georgia officials hope for good voter turnout from overseas military.
- Georgia Tech faculty members don’t want Governor Deal to sign the campus carry bill.
- …Neither does Michael Stipe.
- Unrelated: Mike Mills says there are no plans for a R.E.M. reunion.
- Vice explores PAWnsduhLEEon (oh, hey there, gentle readers, look who got a shoutout).
- Thomasville, Georgia’s official Rose City, is having a party. Click the link for a series of lovely vintage photos from 95 years of the Thomasville Rose Show & Festival.
- The rape kit bill becomes a law.
- Your children might not be as advanced – or as on-level – as you think they are (unless you’re among the 10% of parents who are grounded in reality).
- How not to let Donald Trump destroy your friendships (pro tip: make heavy use of Facebook’s “Hide” feature).
- “Schoolie McSchoolface.” Of course.
- Hamiltime! Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda visited John Oliver’s show to explain the current situation in Puerto Rico, and also offer to wear his Hamilton blouse to dance with Nancy Pelosi at Paul Ryan’s house – in exchange for their support of the plan to restructure Puerto Rico’s debt.

Heard Erick talking on WSB this morning about getting involved in the Cruz/Kasich desperation deal. I can’t remember any other talk show host getting directly involved in campaigns like this. Certainly not Rush, Sean or Boortz. Am I missing something? Isn’t there usually an objectivity thing that the talk show hosts try to maintain among their party participants?
‘Objectivity’ isn’t a word I associate with those guys.
For Erick and many others like him, politics is their religion so objectivity is not a relevant factor.
Trump pissed in Erick’s corn flakes last year so he has been on the warpath ever since. Remember E2 also said he would work to form a 3rd party if (when) Trump secures the nomination. Good luck with that.
Did you forget the fact that Erikson is a hysterical nut?
Didn’t seem to be a problem back when students at Tech (then the Georgia School of Technology) were simply required to check their weapons with the instructor when entering the classroom. Maybe they could just reinstate that policy?
Leonard Wood would approve.
Alas, I think there are more than a few who would like to return to The South of the 1940’s.
Everyone thinks their kid is the smartest? What happened to the “My kid beat up your honor student” crowd?
The honor students got concealed carry permits…
If Burnie wins zero or only one state today he will end his presidential campaign.
Ain’t gonna happen…
Burnie made his point. Why would he continue his campaign when he knows he can’t win?
$$$$$$$$ and airtime. He goes all the way.
Dont think money plays into any of Bernie’s calculations. He is of the true believer set. For that reason, he goes all the way.
Money as in campaign support. He is getting plenty which allows him to go all the way.
And I agree, he is a true believer in the destruction of America’s societal foundation as a means to promulgate his concept of big nanny socialism.
And from the “where does the time go?” department, we’ve reached the last two days (TUE/WED) of oral arguments for the October 2015 sitting of The SCOTUS. It’ll be conferences, orders, and (of course) opinions from here until the last week in June. Giddy-up.
Ted Terry for Governor – http://politics.blog.ajc.com/2016/04/26/clarkston-is-on-a-collision-course-with-georgia-leaders-over-plan-to-decriminalize-marijuana/
A little common sense being offered by Clarkston’s mayor, be nice to see the governor at least take the meeting with Terry to discuss.
