Morning Reads for Tuesday, May 17, 2016
Good morning! It’s a rainy day in Georgia (which is good because north of the gnat line*, we’re in a moderate drought), and it’s a great day in America. Submitted for your procrastinating pleasure:
- Jane Little, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra’s world record-setting bassist, died on stage Sunday evening during an encore performance.
- Georgia is home to 27 outstanding new Americans – read their stories.
- TSA screened a special traveler in Atlanta.
- Related: The TSA Instagram feed is delightful and if you are on Instagram you should follow it posthaste.
- Share your puns in the comments.
- Wanted: two members for Georgia’s state ethics commission (AKA the GT&CF). But each resigned for valid reasons and their resignation letters indicate that things at the commission have improved markedly in recent years.
- Why is Newell really relocating to Jersey?
- Late May means movie time in many of Georgia’s public schools.
- Where is America’s middle class? CityLab maps where most live.
- Pfizer nixed the use of their drugs for executions, meaning that there are no FDA-approved manufacturers for these drugs. If a state wants to lethally inject an inmate, their only source for the drugs they need is a murky drug underground.
- Firsthand stories from China’s Cultural Revolution.
- Man Booker International Prize winner announced.
- Hamiltext.
*Feel free to let me know in the comments how I am wrong about where the gnat line is located.

Upset Alert?
From what I see, and hear, this election is very tight. Kevin Moore support is coming from a backlash of voters not happy with being stuck in traffic, and current Rep Turner lack of willingness to work, and or listen to people on issues. Former Rep Sean Jerguson understood the transportation problem, and was willing to work on solving problems.Kevin Moore, has demonstrated a willingness to roll up his sleeves, and work on solutions, not act like he has the only answer. Kevin as a successful businessman, like Sean Jerguson, understand the go it alone, smartest guy in the room, with little feedback, is not a smart business strategy. This is not my district, but I do think, Kevin Moore has a great chance of winning.

Pfizer’s pulling its killing drug off the market? GA Gen Assembly needs to find another way to get rid of the scum next session. In the meantime they can use my .45 cal if the need one. They’ll need to rent it, of course.
Braves fire Fredi Gonzalez for his inability to turn sewer water into wine.

I’ve always considered the “gnat line” and the “fall line” synonymous.
