Morning Reads for Tuesday, June 7
Good morning! Another Tuesday, another set of primaries – and we now have two presumptive nominees as last night, news broke that Clinton clinched the Democratic nomination.
- In a shocking turn of events, many GOP elite are shunning Trump’s attacks on U.S. District Judge Gonzalo Curiel.
- This includes Georgia’s own Newt Gingrich, who wrote, “I don’t know what Trump’s reasoning was, and I don’t care. His description of the judge in terms of his parentage is completely unacceptable.”
- To which Trump was like, “Et tu, Newt-e?“
- Meanwhile, experts say that Trump is a triple-threat: He undermines the rule of law, the separation of powers, and the First Amendment.
- And meanwhile, Clinton is like…
- (Added at 9:30 AM) Speaking of Shakespeare, George Will nails it in yesterday’s column on Trump and Speaker Ryan, “the Hamlet of southeastern Wisconsin.”
- “Bad narratives.”
- “If Americans in general are full of rage, why does President Obama have a better approval rating than Ronald Reagan at this stage?”
- Georgia now boasts 18 Fortune 500 companies – the newest is Veritiv.
- Savannah’s arena study may cost twice as much as originally estimated.
- Study commissioned by Central Atlanta Progress casts doubt on the economic impact of a downtown casino.
- More than 30% of the third graders in Colquitt County are obese. Thirty percent.
- The history of Warner Robins, as told through its churches.
- Howard Finster’s Georgia legacy is his holy vision, Paradise Garden.
- Food critic wonders what hell hath she wrought.
- “What I regret very much is a certain moralistic, messianic tone of people who advocate responsible eating.”
- Be yourself! Well, most of you should be yourself. Others, not so much.
- Bob Ross is streaming on Netflix! So, there’s that to look forward to.
- We thank the Wall Street Journal for the algorithm they wrote for Hamilton’s lyrics.
- Caution: it’s kind of addicting.

I honestly think that Trump doesn’t want to win and is doing whatever he can to lose. Why else would you continue to attack the “Mexican” judge from Indiana that is overseeing his case?
Can we start an over/under pool on what percent of the vote Gary Johnson gets nationally and here in Georgia? I’ll go ahead and say he will get more votes than any other Libertarian ever.
Saw him on Fox last night with the panel. Said he hadn’t done pot in , oh, five weeks! LOL! He looked stoned out of his gourd.
At least with Gary you know what you get. A crazy pot head? Sure. Racist? No. A misogynist? No. Flip flopper on every issue under the sun? No. Just an all around POS? No.
He has also climbed the seven summits. Something Donald Trump and his tiny hands could never do. Gary Johnson is a bad ass and also a pot head.
Now, when it comes to his policies we all know I am no Libertarian, but he will get my vote becasue he isn’t Trump. I prefer to throw my vote away and start trying to find someone to beat Hillary in 2020.
Johnson will get a few more votes only because of the weakness of the two nominees. Johnson is an unacceptable alternative to many of us because he is weak on illegal immigration and he has a poor understanding of 10th amendment.
Why else would Trump continue to attack the Hoosier judge? Oh, I can think of a reason besides his desire to not actually be President.
It’s becasue Judge Curiel has bigger hands isn’t it?
Exactly! And also: taco bowls.
Trump is wrong on his attack on the judges heritage and really off target thinking a real big wall is a good idea. That said tactics to intimidate in trials is acceptable today but why didn’t Trump jump on the judge’s La Raza connection?

You realize those are two different La Raza organizations right? Apples to Oranges.
Yes – His membership with the lawyers.
Algorithms and logic. Many side with the anti-Federalists that stood their ground for a Bill of Rights, not the Federalist Hamilton, Many run with Hawkings explanations of universe and evolution but with a deist bias not the theist or instant concoction. Many believe in probabilities not chaos.
But folks sitting out on the beach looking at the night sky or those enjoying a good play without interdiction, are filled with joy.
We should use all our resources or get caught following a pied piper.
Translation: we have two very illogical candidates but one is guaranteed to advance Federalism and socialism……Clinton.
I was waiting to watch this, figuring you would have it in your morning reads…

gosh that is the best thing ive seen today! I love Audra!
Technically, Rep. Ryan is the Hamlet of south-central Wisconsin. His district might cover the Michigan shoreline south of Milwaukee and the democratic areas of Racine and Kenosha, but he is ALL Janesville upper class.
janesville? upper class? is this some sort of irony i’m missing?
No irony there. In a blue collar union auto city of the 1970’s and 80’s dying rust belt industrial strong hold, Ryan’s late father was a well know lawyer, as was his grandfather. His mother was the daughter of the Chief of Surgery and Chairman of the hospital board in my hometown. My paternal great aunt worked as a domestic in his house while he was practicing. My material grandparents, once they left their farm in their 50’s, worked in the hospital and my grandfather answered directly to him. The ‘Doc’ was great guy from what I remember of him from my childhood. He retired to Janesville. AMC also had a regional headquarters in Janesville with a lot of VP and upper level sorts. Their is also a resort/vacation house set of Chicago Board of Trade workers that have second and third houses in the area.
Just because it’s an industrial and agricultural area doesn’t mean there is not an upper class or 1% element in the state. I myself went to public school with the Galloway descendants (invented evaporated milk and owned a chuck of Borden), the Brenner grandchildren (as in the Benner Tank semi trailers you see on the highways) the Gentine kids (Sargento Cheese) members of the Kohler family, and Carl Kiekhaefer’s grandchildren (Mercury Marine founder and NASCAR owner/engine pioneer).
Ok, it appears that Hillary clinched yesterday. However, Bernie says the super delegates aren’t to be counted until the actual convention. Hysterical! He’s holding out, like me, for an indictment!! I think he’ll join Sally and me in the pumpkin patch!
Abba – best pop group ever. Brilliant songwriting, simple but poignant lyrics, a signature sound with Agnetha and Frida probably the best two female voices ever in pop music. I’m sure their music will be around long after the current crop of computerized, over-produced and soul-less auto-tuned schlock is thankfully forgotten.
