Hank Johnson: Jewish Settlers akin to “termites”
Hank Johnson, who represents Georgia’s 4th Congressional District, appears to be in the news again with an ill-conceived analogy. Quoting from the Free Beacon:
“There has been a steady [stream], almost like termites can get into a residence and eat before you know that you’ve been eaten up and you fall in on yourself, there has been settlement activity that has marched forward with impunity and at an ever increasing rate to the point where it has become alarming,” Johnson said during an event sponsored by the U.S. Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation, an anti-Israel organization that galvanizes supporters of the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions movement, or BDS.
The BDS movement is generally not consider to be mainstream Democratic thought, but there has been a big push ahead of Philadelphia for some of their positions to become planks in the Democratic platform and this back and forth regarding settlements should be viewed in the context of the reaction of those whose views were not included.
The ongoing Israeli/Palestinian dispute over the settlements is certainly corrosive and there are bad actors on both sides – if Congressman Johnson’s goal was to point out the debilitating effects of those actions, he certainly has found an audience. These comments are likely to go viral, and by that I don’t mean they are an actual virus, just that they’ll be acting like one.

Given the lack of a district residency requirement in Georgia to run for a Congressional seat, is there any reason why the long list of reputable candidates waiting for John Lewis to retire don’t just primary challenge Hank Johnson? It’s comments like these among his other past misstatements that just baffle me as to why he’s not receiving serious challengers. (2014 notwithstanding)
Heck, the man put out a robo-call for Sharon Barnes-Sutton last month so he’s clearly not aligned with the highest caliber of politicians.
David Scott lives in Inman Park yet represents the 13th district. The 4th district, and frankly the entire state of Georgia, deserves better than Hank Johnson.
Johnson has always been a moron and a joke. I wonder if he’s concerned that Philly might “tip over?’
He sounds as goofy as the other idiot that represented that district, Cynthia McKinney.
It is sad how politicians spew to their base support over trying to solve anything. I wish both sides could just chill out!
Maybe the DNC can squeeze him in between the illegal alien speaker Obama has bragged about since 2014 and Hillary modeling her latest Chinese traditional uniform look.
