Morning Reads for Tuesday, July 26
Good morning! How ’bout that FLOTUS? And then there was Sarah Silverman, bless her heart.
- It’s runoff day for many Georgians! Here’s what happens after the polls close tonight.
- Savannah faces a significant – like, $15 million – revenue shortfall because of billing delays.
- Newnan gives a hearty “Pokémon NOPE” to playing the immensely popular game in their cemeteries.
- Here are the middle Georgians who are in Philadelphia this week.
- Polls are for strippers and – well, you know the rest. Here’s why you can ignore them for the next several weeks.
- WSJ columnist argues that, for a guy who graduated from Wharton, Trump is pretty lousy at economics.
- Only sharing because the photo makes it look like they’re both in Slytherin.
- Here’s a fun and absorbing infographic on barrier-breakers from throughout American history.
- Here’s an equally absorbing, but maybe less fun, way to see what the other side’s social media feed looks like.
- Where the phrase “black-on-black crime” originated.
- What the viral videos of police shootings often miss.
- This vignette from the DNC email scandal is too much to not share twice. That sound you hear is her political future drip-dripping down the drain.

Who is telling the truth?
……..Three cybersecurity experts have told NBC News that the DNC’s servers were hacked by Russian intelligence. But Assange said Monday that DNC servers have been riddled with security holes for years and that many sets of documents from multiple sources are now in public hands.
“The emails that we have released are different sets of documents to the documents of those [that] people have analyzed,” he said.
“I have seen Hillary Clinton apologists talk — or some experts talk — about other material, and not the material that we have released,” Assange said…………

Andrew,
Do you think the DNC referring to Latino outreach programs as “Taco Bowl Engagements” is racist?
……….From: Rebecca Christopher <[email protected]> Date: Friday, May 6, 2016 at 3:59 PM To: Video-Vetting_d <[email protected]> Subject: New video: Trump isn’t trying to bring people together Hi everyone, Attached is a script for a new video we’d like to use to mop up some more taco bowl engagement, and demonstrate the Trump actually isn’t trying. Let me know if you have any flags and thank you!…………

I was clear, I supported Kasich, just trying to keep the spin down.
Who is telling the truth? Maybe both, I guess. I don’t even see any disagreement between them.
I am confused does not technology create jobs? If that is true, does it not have to be the trade policy, killing wages and or jobs?
http://www.cnbc.com/2015/08/19/dont-fear-the-robots-tech-creates-more-jobs-than-it-destroys-report.html
To keep it simple for you, let me give you an example. More than 100 years ago, Henry Ford created jobs for people to assemble his automobile, a new technological device that was set to revolutionize transportation and much more.
In the process, the buggy whip makers, horse carriage makers, stable hands, etc. all lost jobs. This is the phenomenon of creative destruction, in which new ideas and technologies replace old ones, and improve our lifestyles.
If you need more information on this, I suggest you read the link Teri provided about how Mr. Trump doesn’t understand economics.
Jon,
……….To keep it simple for you………..
Did you even read what i posted it was from “management consultants Deloitte”…..LOL…. I forgot more about economics than you know! LOL……
And the Jackassery is out again.
“I forgot more about economics than you know!”
Your nasty bias comments come out again! Obviously nothing about Jon posting “To keep it simple for you”. Your agenda is clear!
My agenda of trolling a troll???????????
Hey John,
One of the things we try to do here is to work as a community to explore issues relating to Georgia and regional politics, and how they affect us. Part of the responsibility of being a member of that community is to respect the opinions of other participants.
Last night, you accused me of bias after I wrote a three paragraph news story recapping the results of the first Georgia presidential poll in almost three months. Today, you are trolling Andrew and me, accusing us of saying things we never said.
I am all for discussing how to solve some of the contingent problems that arise from creative destruction, or what it might mean should Georgia become a purple state at the national level. But, you don’t want to have that type of a discussion. Instead, you post a link that is tangentially relevant to the topic at hand and ask other commenters why they don’t support it.
A few weeks ago, I asked you to police yourself, and your habit of threadjacking posts. That seemed to work for a while, although I did have to remove a few threadjacks and links along the way. I suggest you go back and review that warning. I have neither the time nor the inclination to monitor all your comments in real time, but if you continue to troll and insult members of the community, a total ban could be in your future.
Jon,
It is obvious you have had it out for me since our disagreement over Sen Josh McKoon .Rather ironic with your non stop attack on Trump, when what Sen. McKoon did was way worse by any measure. The difference between us is I have made it very clear about my reservations about Trump behavior. Yet you have no issue with Sen McKoon, yet attack Trump. Add on your double standard for The Eiger comments is hypocrisy on steroids! You win I am done!
“You win I am done!” Do you promise???
Follow the logic, if more higher wages jobs were being created at an efficient level, than wages would be going up! I get you are a lawyer, not a business person!
Andrew,
Nice lawyer trick….you think technology creates just more low paying jobs? HUH? Your point makes no “macroeconomic” sense!
The DNC was full of victimhood last night; the poor, disabled, gays…. It was interesting to note that there was booing for Hilly and DWS. Why do some of you dems hate Hilly and DWS? Much maligning of Trumpet also. One speaker called him a “right wing megalomaniac.” Why such hatred of Trumpet by dems?
Because they are scared crapless of Trump! If he were genuinely the clown or whatever they say he is, they’d just ignore him.
Lets be honest at this point both conventions have been about attacking the opponent. No real substance on wages and jobs. As much as Trump wall seems unrealistic, the open boarder concept pushed by Dems will only hurt working class people more.
But some dems are shouting “lock her up.”
http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2016/07/24/bernie-sanders-supporters-chant-lock-her-up-in-philadelphia-protest-against-clinton/
Ahhh, the strategy of the Gun Grabbers…Not new of course, but surely illustrative to see it on video…
They…Will…Never…Stop… Truly sickening. Thank God for the NRA!
http://www.infowars.com/video-hillary-delegate-admits-goal-behind-common-sense-gun-measures-is-outright-gun-ban/
I am a Democrat and a liberal. I am also a gun owner. I also expect to continue to be a gun owner. I would oppose any sort of generic “gun ban”. I believe my position is more in line with mainstream liberals than the one delegate featured in the story. That delegate does not speak for me or anyone else except herself. (One should also note that the video is by James O’Keefe- known to edit his videos in a way that misrepresents actual events, so there’s really no telling what actually transpired.)
That doesn’t mean we should do nothing. There are things that can be done that make sense and that don’t endanger our rights. But every time this conversation begins, it ends the same way- the NRA and those on their payroll block ANY change.
What is the conventional wisdom floating around out there about the outcome of the Tim Lee runoff today? Is he still likely to lose?
Lee is going lose by a pretty wide margin. I wouldn’t be surprised if Boyce got 60% plus. There have been tons of negative ads during the runoff from Lee and his friends and from the people I’ve talked to they are back firing. Negative ads can work in the right environment, but they are tricky. Sometimes they do more harm than good. They also show a level of desperation.
I agree with you about the outcome Eiger, but maybe not quite as wide. Heavy turnout usually leads to change and we are definitely seeing an increase in early ballots here in Cobb.
But I am still hoping Lee pulls it out because Boyce is simply not ready to lead an enterprise as large as this county. And being against the largest project in the county’s history cannot be helpful as it is getting closer to completion by the day.
If I still lived in Cobb I would most likely cast my ballot for Tim. The problem with Tim is not necessarily the policies he has pushed through, but the way he did it and his attitude after the fact. It has made lots of people mad. I share your concerns with Boyce, but I do believe that he will come around.
Until Sam Olens took over, I believe that the Cobb County Chairman position was part time. At least it was going back to the Bill Byrne years. In recent times it has become entangled with a lot of non-core things, like ARC meetings, meetings with the Chamber of Commerce, and fundraising for re-election (apparently Tim Lee has been doing a lot of that, based on all the mailers/robocalls I received in the past week or so.)
My point is that the job description shouldn’t resemble a marriage of public service and private enterprise. The business community is important but there are other voices that need to be heard. That is kind of what got Lee in trouble. We’ll see if he gets shown the door tonight.
Cobb is a major player in the metro area thus the need to be an active influencer at ARC meetings. Every county must be part of a regional coalition, might as well try to represent the county’s best interests.
Every elected official must fundraise for re-election. Lee completely fulfills his duties as chairman so your assertion is misplaced.
Any county commission chairman better be ready to ‘marry’ with private sector entities in order to generate much needed economic development. If you think otherwise, you really need to get a better understanding of local government and the need for business growth.
Did any of the dems consider or mention that we have a $20T debt as a result of massive government spending under both parties? Nah, that’s no biggie. Just get another credit card so we can provide ‘free’ college for everybody not making $125K.
It’s easy to be positive when you ignore reality.
When? Admittedly I could only endure small portions of the giveaway fest, but I didn’t hear much about new policies to address the massive debt while tuning in.
I think he meant their policy of free education and basically free everything. That technically is “talking about policy.” Just an unsustainable policy that will put us further into the hole.
Trump saying he’d eliminate the entire debt in 8 years is perhaps a reason for the WSJ column.
BTW, boo on links to paywall articles in posts.
Sort of….
“The Republicans want us to forget that as a result of the greed, recklessness and illegal behavior on Wall Street our economy was in the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression. That’s where we were. That is where we were. Some 800,000 people a month were losing their jobs, 800,000 people. We were running up a record- breaking deficit of $1.4 trillion. And by the way, the world’s financial system was on the verge of collapse. That’s where we were when President Obama came into office.
Well, we have come a long way in the last seven-and-a- half years and I thank President Obama and Vice President Biden. I thank them for their leadership in pulling us out of that terrible recession.Yes, we have made progress, but I think we can all agree that much, much more needs to be done.”
Sen. Sanders
double posted… see above. Damn copy and paste…
2000 square miles of pristene desert to be developed for solar by Obama. What where is the public outcry over this? https://lasvegassun.com/news/2016/jul/26/mojave-desert-at-stake-in-far-reaching-federal-ene/
The next release will send her to prison. What wait I am holding my breath.
http://www.inquisitr.com/3346011/democrat-scandal-julian-assange-claims-new-leaks-will-send-hillary-clinton-to-prison-over-campaign-to-destroy-bernie-sanders/
You got that right. I’m not falling for that foolishness again. She ain’t going anywhere. By the way, Sally left me for Pigpen. My blue blanket got moth holes. And Snoopy took a chunk out of my backside simply because he could! To quote Rodney Dangerfield, “It ain’t easy bein’ me…”
You forgot to mention Lucy had you committed to a nice quiet farm where thumb sucking is allowed and quoting poetry and bible verses is looked on with kindness and awe. (Older sisters; we rule the world).
First- Where is the public outcry? You posted a news story about it from a major news source! What do you want? cnn should run a weeklong special about it?
Second- They continue to build communities in the Nevada desert. Should we stop that? If we aren’t going to stop that, then we need to get power to them. What do you suggest? Coal? Nuclear?
Third- Not sure of your perspective, but it looks like Obama did something that is not too lefty and not too righty. He promoted this type of facility but also set aside large areas for conservation. Up to 1 million acres for development and 5 million acres for conservation. Seems like good balance. What’s the problem?
Hillary and Kaine are not being sneaky about plans for illegals. They promise an amnesty plan and path to citizenship in their first 100 days. Then they promise a really big influx of Syrian and other Muslim immigrants. Meanwhile the FBI says they can’t properly vet at the volume now.
Hope we will not be as loose as France. An ISIS terrorist on a list and with an ankle bracelet participated in slitting the throat of an 84 yr old priest during a service.

Overreacting Trump style on vetting might err in a better direction.
