Morning Reads for Friday, September 2nd
Ginny is our latest jet setting world traveler. I’m betting she’s out finding a yarn supplier to keep her “knitting in publick” alive and strong. In such, I’m here to give you this morning’s news.
On this day in Georgia history, General William T. Sherman and his army captures Atlanta. It still makes a few folks ticked when you bring up his name.
Here:
- ICYMI: Governor Nathan Deal declares state of emergency for south Georgia counties affected by Hermine.
- DragonCon is a thing to more people this year (warning: autoplay).
- A Georgia woman found bugs in her baby’s formula (warning: autoplay).
- Remember, it’s Labor Day weekend, so don’t drink and drive.
- Walker County reduces property taxes (conveniently before the election).
- Walker County also received a judgement to pay $8.7 million to Erlanger.
- The Braves sweep a series for the first time this year. Too bad it’s September.
There:
- China is trying to be the global leader.
- Is this how Donald Trump could get the funds for the wall?
- Speaking of Trump, he altered his immigration speech after the Mexican President sent out a tweet (warning: autoplay).
- More than 3 million bees died as a result of Zika spraying in South Carolina.
- Shenanigans in the Australian Parliament.
Yonder:
- You might have had a rough week at work, but at least a rocket didn’t explode while you were doing tests.
- Samsung is recalling their Note 7 phones (phablets) because the batteries have the potential to explode.
- Google has axed its modular mobile phone code-named Project Ara.
Sine Labor Day Weekend! For all y’all in south Georgia. Be safe and stay tuned to the radio and TV for any watches and warnings.

DragonCon brings a lot of revenue to the city and unlike the NFL, DragonCon does not demand a taxpayer subsidy.
Meanwhile in other states….

Presidential debate moderators announced – http://www.cbsnews.com/news/debate-moderators-announced-for-general-election-debates/
Same old, same old. It would be interesting to have at least one debate moderated by a tandem of say Rachel Maddow and Laura Ingraham. Not only would the moderators argue with the candidates, they would be arguing amongst themselves, pay-per-view stuff.
Charles Krauthammer would be a fine debate moderator because he does not like either candidate.
Welllllllll, it seems that that Sainted Organization known as the Clinton Foundation was pestering The Peddler to issue them Dip Passports! Shazaaaaam! I know I’m surprised by this. As one who’s traveled on Dip Passports most of my working life, they are issued to US Govt employees and contractors, not private citizens. Oops! Another attempt for special favors they ain’t entitled to! I wonder what’s coming out next? LOL!
