IRS Commissioner John Koskinen, testified Wednesday before the House Judiciary Committee on his misconduct during the Congressional investigation of IRS targeting of conservative groups. The Commissioner has previously appeared on multiple occasions before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. He is also the subject of impeachment legislation co-sponsored by Georgia’s 9th District Congressman Doug Collins.
During today’s hearing Congressman Collins remarked,
Today’s hearing told us more of the same. It’s no wonder the American people don’t trust the IRS. Commissioner Koskinen continued to stonewall and parse words rather than providing true answers to taxpayers. In response to one of my questions, the Commissioner admitted the IRS still hasn’t fully replied to a subpoena from 2013. Commissioner Koskinen has misled Congress and the American people, failed to provide documents, and done little to restore accountability to the agency. Its past time Commissioner Koskinen is held responsible for his actions. American taxpayers deserve better.
While the IRS is held in low regard, Congress appears to run a close second. Contrary to the popular saying “this is our circus and those are our monkeys”.
