Morning Reads for Tuesday, October 18
Good morning! Just a few weeks left until the election – how many parents/parents of friends/cousins/high school classmates Facebook feeds have you hidden?
- They’re putting in new canopies at Hartsfield-Jackson, right in time for the holiday travel season! The construction work includes lane closures in front of both terminals; airport officials assure the public there will be no inconvenience. Okay.
- The WaPo discusses whether Georgia is in play.
- It’s stupid easy to make a joke about municipal monorail studies – and we have! – but the real question this story raises is why on earth a city councilmember in a city the size of Brookhaven needs a $10K discretionary fund.
- $4M meth bust in Alpharetta.
- For those of you who missed Civics 101, here’s a Storify explaining why the elections aren’t rigged, and certainly not at the precinct level, FTLOG.
- What does potential GOP ticket-splitting have to do with the breakup of The Eagles?
- A Massachusetts Democrat raised more than $13K to help rebuild the firebombed GOP headquarters in Orange County, North Carolina.
- Why the Catholic email “scandal” isn’t actually scandalous for most Catholics (myself included), and reflects conversations that many Catholics (myself included) have been having amongst themselves for quite some time.
- Complete results from the most recent NBC/WSJ poll.
- How some College Republicans are navigating the fraught waters of being a College Republican in the era of Trump.
- We all knew this was true.
- RIP Pedals. May you cross the Rainbow Bridge for an unfettered romp wth Harambe.
- Here are two versions of the Star Spangled Banner (AKA “The Dawnzer Song”), sung by George Washington and The Schuyler Sisters.
- Set your DVRs!

Saw the Rubio/Murphy debate last night on c-span. Rubio won the debate despite repeated attempts by Murphy and a moderator to link him to Trumpet. Rubio also said he would serve his entire six year senate term.
Rubio says he has many disagreements with Trumpet but he has many more with Hilly. Strangely, Murphy would not criticize her for anything.
Rubio realized his original immigration plan had flaws so he retooled. His current plan is more realistic and comprehensive. Does Murphy have a plan or is his plan the standard dem plan of citizenship for illegals?
“but he has voted for anti-LGBT legislation” A mass murder by a terrorist and how one votes on LGBT legislation are separate issues.
One issue I did disagree with him on was when he blamed Georgia for the water problems in N Florida. Also I don’t like his aggressive foreign policy which is somewhat similar to that of the dem nominee.
Dems disagree with Rubio on many issues but they are more scared of his youth and ethnicity. This presidential race would be quite different if Rubio was the nominee.
Clarification; Rubio’s foreign policy is somewhat similar to the dem presidential nominee’s foreign policy. I don’t know if Murphy has a foreign policy.
“Rubio also said he would serve his entire six year senate term.”
And you can take what Rubio says to the bank.
I bet this is not good for our utility bill.

J. Edgar Comey hated – by his own agents. This ain’t over, not by a long shot.

Let’s see, We’ll allow more FBI agents abroad if you lower the classification on The Peddler’s email. Squid-pro-quo! Ruh-Roh!!
It’s the other way around – a FBI agent (as in 1) hinted to State they could use more over sea staff while he was declassifying. The US congressman from Utah should actually read the notes in question (which he admitted to Fox yesterday he had yet to do) before getting all worked up by what his staff tells him. Yes the declassification protocol has been extremely screwed up for a few decades (if Albright, Powell and Rice are to be believed) as noted in congressional hearing over the last 18 months. Was she or her staff directly involved? In 2015? Why is the FBI agent now retired? Was the memo in question declassified (nope). Did the FBI get additional over seas staff (nope)? Is it going to hurt her? Not as much as it will hurt the FBI. Will it be a question tomorrow at the debate? Of course it will.
Busy day in Athens-Clarke on first day of early voting. There was a line at the door a full hour before opening. Wait time was about 35 minutes and 300 people voted by noon.
My favorite comment by an early voter: “I want to vote and then turn my media off for the next three weeks”.

How many of those 300 you reckon voted for Trump?
Sociopaths frequently use “gaslighting”. A good description for one of the Trump campaign’s main strategies and it’s most toxic legacy is gaslighting. Many people pronounced Pence the winner in the VP debate. Pence’s “victory” was all presentation and demeanor, while ignoring his gaslighting throughout the debate. The GOP’s rightward drift had been its primary problem. Gaslighting is a whole new type of trouble, and it’s normalization will be hard on Democracy.

“I heard her say that she was there that day. I was there that day, I don’t remember seeing Hillary Clinton there.” – Rudy Guiliani gaslighting Clinton about 9/11, until photos taken the day after 9/11 that had Clinton walking alongside Giuliani surfaced in social media, along with a transcript that indicated Clinton never said she was in NYC on 9/11. It was Giuliani following Trump’s lead gaslighting Muslims when Trump said he observed New Jersey Muslins celebrating 9/11.
I just got a second-hand report from a poll worker in Oconee that 583 people voted yesterday. We turn out to vote over here, 80 percent four years ago, and are solidly if not blindly gop, Romney 73 percent.
Not surprised. I don’t think he’ll have any trouble in GA at all. It all comes down to whether there is a genuine Silent Majority. It’s never materialized yet but who knows, this is a very different election.
Terri, I like the Catholic link. It’s the same one I gave Noway on Sunday… question is, did he read it yet?
You know I love you and Teri, right? Resend the link! I swear I’ll read it!
See WAY WAY up at the top of the Read, where it says “•Why the Catholic email “scandal” isn’t actually scandalous for most Catholics “…? yah that one, just click it and read it.
The picture…

You were supposed to send something about Catholic voters, I thought.
I did on a post on Sunday when you when off on the Catholic vote… and then Terri used the same link. How is it that I don’t even have internet or cable back on at my house (day 11) and I’m more up to date then you are? Did you at least see todays Bloom County? (I’m guessing no.) 😉
Apologies if already posted, but here’s a very good video montage (by the contractor) of the demolition of the 1100-foot smokestack at Plant Branch on Lake Sinclair this past Saturday.
How will I ever know how far I am from Milledgeville? That was the point I could always tell my kids, “10 minutes or so”.
Yeah, we’ve got one in school at GCSU right now. It’s going to be weird not having it there.
Whoaaaaaa, Nellie!!

What’s good for the goose…
You have gone from being the annoying guy in the room to the angry drunk uncle that everyone hates.
What is your problem, E!? I link to an article that has salacious info on your gal and you hate me!!!??? You and many of the other Hilly apologists are highlighting every Trump negative piece with utter abandon!!! What an absolute candy a$$! Good Lord!!!! You shore can dish it out…
Couple of things. It’s Hillary not Hilly. You continue to look like an ignorant ass when you say Hilly.
You linked to the national enquirer about Hillary being a lesbian? I don’t even know where to begin with that. Again, this makes you look like an ignorant ass.
I don’t support Hillary. She is terrible. We should be talking about all of the Wikileaks emails right now and even the voter fraud link you posted below. But people like you gave us Trump so now we are talking about “grabbin ’em by the p—y” and having our nominee tell a 10 year old that he will be dating her in a few years.
This shit storm is your fault not mine. You can get all pissy when someone calls you out on your ignorance, but it is what it is.
Didn’t realize you were so sensitive there, Eiger! LMAO! Deal with it. The article lists mych more than just her alleged sexual preferences. And the Enquirer was spot on regarding Edwards, so that makes them potentially credible. And your obvious “ignorance” of the meaning of the word “ignorant “. Makes YOU look…….ignorant!!! Please continue to show your screeching displeasure when someone posts something negative about Hilly!
But, but – did you read either of the Catholic links?
Nope…
Eiger,
“but people like you gave us Trump” You may want to ask Norway who he voted for in the primary. Voters that voted for him in the primary “gave us Trump”. Most that vote for him in the general only support him because he is better than the dem nominee.
OK, I clicked on that link because I thought it would be kind of exciting if Hillary were lesbian or bi. Alas, I was disappointed. Here’s the money quote:
“While I was there, I helped her slip out of a back exit for a one-on-one session with the other woman. It was made to look casual, leaving quietly [rather] that being caught up in the melee … but really it was for something presumably more sordid.”
“Presumably?” That’s all you got!?!? Sheesh.
Then later they say they have proof of a bunch of other stuff, but again it can be summed up here:
“In the bombshell exposé, The ENQUIRER will reveal the fixer’s dossier of smoking gun proof, including 24-years of documents, notes, and journals.”
Ah. He has some personal notes, that he presumably jotted down at the time. Riiiight.
This has been a public service so that you don’t have to click on that link.
Thank you for taking one for the rest of us… not that I was planning reading it… but Thank you.
O’Keefe finds more Democrat sleeze!

A doctors’ credibility lies with his patient care.
A musicians credibility lies within their authenticity.
An engineers credibility lies within their technical ability.
A video documentary producers’ credibility lies within their honesty. O’Keefe has none, credibility or honesty.
So yes, one can shoot the messenger in this case. He has proven himself to be willing to falsify information in order to advance his agenda. So even if something he reports were to turn out to be true, it’s going to take someone else – with credibility- reporting it for it to have any significance.
O’Keefe’s legacy will be as an example modern day yellow (video) “journalism”.
