Price Domino Falls In East Cobb: Gus Makris To Seek Judson Hill’s Senate Seat
With Judson Hill announcing he’s in for the presumed special election to fill Tom Price’s Congressional seat, Georgia’s “resign to run law” means that there will be special election to fill Hill’s State Senate Seat upon his resignation or qualifying for the Congressional race.
As such, East Cobb attorney Gus Makris is preparing to announce his run to fill the remainder of Hill’s term in the Senate.
Makris is an attorney for Turner Broadcasting, dealing mostly with federal tax issues. Prior to joining Turner he was with the firm of King and Spalding.
He’s a longtime member of the Cobb County GOP, serving in several leadership positions. He’s a board member of the East Cobb Civic Association.
Currently, Makris serves on the Judicial, District Attorney, and Circuit Public Defender Compensation Commission as an appointee of Governor Nathan Deal. He’s married with several small children.
I’ve known Gus for several years and he would bring a sharp and inquisitive intellect to the Georgia Senate. He’s more than qualified for the role. About the only downside is that while he still has a full head of hair, his mane will never live up to the standard set by Judson Hill.

Dr. Kay Kirkpatrick is kicking the tires for a run as well. But a warning for everyone thinking about Judson’s seat, he has gotten cold feet and backed out of big races before.
