Morning Reads for Tuesday, December 6
Good morning! Pretty sure it’s Election Day, somewhere. Also, I guess it’s 5:00 somewhere, too, so you may as well have a Bloody Mary.
- An Emory professor writes about how it feels to be added to The Professor’s Watchlist.
- The Port of Savannah has some very cool, very large new cranes.
- Ocmulgee National Monument is a legit national treasure (but maybe not the kind on Nic Cage’s map).
- Atlanta’s trash pickup is from the future.
- Fun with sovereign immunity and the Supreme Court of Georgia! Good luck if you try to sue the Board of Regents!
- Five years ago, when I was working to start a weekly food truck event in Smyrna, naysayers often said that food trucks were a flash in the pan, and would never have any economic impact. Yeah, about that…
- Meanwhile, we know that breweries are an economic generator – just look at North Carolina! And yet.
- Macon’s Capricorn Studios are back in action.
- Cobb County is 148 years old!
- Dolly Parton is classier than all of us. (But we already knew that.)
- Chester Cheetah is trolling us.
- The Hamilton diaspora.

Texas Repub elector says he won’t vote for Trump. Simple solution: Replace him with another elector who will carry out the overwhelming will of the people of Texas. Simple.

Why do you hate the Constitution?
Texas Repubs appointed this guy as an elector, they can remove him and appoint another who’s not quite so mentally tormented.
Texas law doesn’t require electors to vote for the person with the most votes, so perhaps you should mess with Texas and tell them to change their law.
Leave the Mayor’s driver alone. Poor guy was just doing what Hizzoner was ordering. I hope the Mayor is paying his legal fees since it was in the line of duty. Or is he being thrown under the bus?

Cobb is correct to charge the officer but my question is why did they wait so long to charge him? He should have been charged the day of the accident.
And yes, Reed and George Turner are also responsible. Hopefully by charging the officer in this incident APD and the mayor will change their policy. And Roy Barnes as the defense attorney? Interesting.
Emory professor: by analogy, those that strongly believe in protecting our natural resources, woods and critters, need to leave a class to be productive and preserve, not a victim of hunters, fishermen and loggers to the point of aspiring to be an eco-terrorist.
All in for ag’n is a value usually measured in the negative.
Trump is certainly showing he can pick ’em, and that his picks can pick ’em too. First old man Flynn, Trump’s nominee for National Security Advisor, tweets on pizzagate, the unfounded assertion Clinton ran a child sex ring in the back room of a pizza parlor. Then his son, an advisor to pop and someone who has been involved in the Trump transition, follows suit.
Yeah it’s all the same for conservatives. Prodding that upsets Black Lives Matter folks about say, a hung jury in connection with a cop shooting a guy in the back running away 40 feet away after a traffic stop is exactly the same as someone bringing an assault rifle into a pizza parlor and discharging it as part of an investigation into pizzagate.
You for giving a cop 30 to life for pursuing a guy (turns out he was a thug) that after a traffic stop jumped out of his car, took off and after being chased down got into it with the cop, got tasered and ran off again ?
Wasn’t on jury for the full evidence but it appears the cop, responsible for protecting the public, might not have done it our way in the moment, but he was certainly overcharged.
He shot the man in the back as he ran away. That is murder. Even if he was a “thug” and did everything he is accused of (I’m sure he did all of those things) he deserved to go to court and sentenced by a jury of his peers and not murdered in the street.
Cops have one of the world’s most stressful and dangerous jobs for sure. That doesn’t mean you protect the bad ones so they get away with murder.
I would expect a plea bargain here rather than a second murder trial.
This was a murder. Period. Describing it as anything other than that is to suborn murder.
There will be no plea bargain for anything short of a 30 year sentence.
Sometimes the only thing I can say is WTF is wrong with you? Murder and planting evidence. On tape. And that’s not enough for you?
there are people in this world who will watch a cop kick a baby with their very own eyes and still blame the baby.
The jury also had before it a voluntary manslaughter charge, but evidently hung on that too.
In my best ‘Noway’ impression; (clearing my throat…)
“You climate haters try and be strong. Gore met with Donald! LOL!”

How’d I do? Did I capture the flair of a Noway post…
I thought you did well!!! I was wundering why Gore met with him…I’ll speculate that his meeting with Trump’s group was one more meeting than he had with a prez in the last 8 years!!
Thank you.
Needs a skosh more bit of illogic and a tidbit more unexamined cheerleading. I give it a B+ but you can’t dance to it.
LOL! Hey, it was her first try…
I didn’t want to over do it with the adjective laden stereotypical tripe. It’s like adding hot peppers to food – start with a few cause you can always add more, not pitch in the whole bowl and hope for the best.
I’m betting Noway can’t dance so rhythm wasn’t an objective.
Ellynn, You can’t produce a Rembrandt right out of the gate, best to start with a paint-by-numbers first! Like I said, you did well. Coastal, you really should encourage her more…:)
Helluva Trump speech in NC!
