Morning Reads — Fame Seeker Edition
I had the pleasure of meeting an interesting individual at the Phipps AMC movie theater on Thursday. As I sat at the bar awaiting the arrival of my friends, I couldn’t help but notice the man’s Chewbacca onesie. After striking up a conversation, he gave me his business card: “Professional Fame Whore” written beside a picture of himself wearing a shirt with a picture himself on it.
Charlie discovered that this man is a contributor to Georgia’s film industry. Perhaps I should apply for the opening.
Thank you, Sam, for your contribution to our state’s economic development. The film industry is a $6 billion industry thanks to people like you.
Jawja
- Restrictions on open records! Someone call Jessica.
- The AP is searching for a State House reporter.
- Jawja’s electors will do their duty and vote for Trump. Here’s to a (hopefully) uneventful day.
- Bibb County bought $13 million worth of new computers that are collecting dust.
- Georgia Supreme Court will hear a case on hospital open records.
Murica
- Hillary, actually.
- Trump and the overinflated White House.
- Few support a revolt in the electoral college. I guess celebrities can’t win Democrats the election in November or December.
- Asking the hard questions: What is in LaCroix.
- Will the GOP be the Pro-Putin party?

We’re less than 48 hours away from the Winter Solstice early Wednesday morning, after which the days will ever-so-slowly start to lengthen yet again. Sunrise will actually keep getting a bit later (by a matter of seconds) thru about January 14, but the later sunsets will mean Thursday’s total daylight hours will be a few seconds longer.
Sunrise for Atlanta today was at 7:38. Sunset will be at 5:32.
And for those checking in from Fairbanks, AK, your sunrise today will be (local time) at 10:57, with sunset at 2:39.
You’re welcome.
Give me an update on the Sweet Meteor of Death, and I’m interested.
Biden gave a fine, non political eulogy at the John Glenn Memorial service Saturday however neither Obama nor Trump attended. Obama was jetting off to his Hawaii vacation while Trump was on his “victory” tour.
A third dem, Sally Herrell, enters the race to replace Tom Price. Not sure why any dem would run in this district.
AP is reporting that the North Carolina legislature will convene in special session Tuesday to repeal HB2, following the Charlotte City Council’s vote to repeal their local anti-discrimination ordinance (contingent on the HB2 repeal) which started everything.
Poor North Carolina. Reputation ruined by a few bigots and hardliners. That legacy will take years to erase. Any recent figures on how much the display of ugliness cost the state in real money?
Movie theaters have bars now?
Yes. I am ashamed to say I’ve been to many theater bars.
Last time I went to a theater a coke was $7, so how much is a drink from the well? Much less a call brand.
That guy actually has a half-dozen imdb credits. Do the movie production companies have any hire-a-geezer programs?
I have half a dozen imdb credits. Trust me. It doesnt take much. lol
I think the “cinema drafthouse” concept got going back in the late-70’s, locally. Buckhead had one (appropriately named “Buckhead Cinema & Drafthouse”) and the now-extinct Excelsior Mill added one in ’81 or ’82.
Quite familiar with those but they never had first run flicks and I don’t recall a bar in the lobby, just dinner theater type seating with waiters. I preferred the BYOB etc. atmosphere at the Peachtree Battle theater’s midnight movies.
Taking a break from Coastal, Drew and I picking on each other this am:
Russian Ambassador shot in Turkey. I pity the poor bastard when the Russians catch him.
Nice number two?

You know, this just is not Hilly’s year. Four of her electors broke ranks and cast ballots for Powell and some Indian elder…
