Politico reports that former Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue is the leading candidate to become Donald Trump’s Secretary of Agriculture.
BREAKING IN PLAYBOOK — FORMER GEORGIA GOV. SONNY PERDUE is the leading candidate to be tapped as Donald Trump’s secretary of agriculture. Perdue has won statewide office twice, theoretically making his confirmation easier. Agriculture and veterans affairs are the two cabinet posts that Trump has not yet filled. Of course, as we’ve now learned, Trump sometimes changes his mind. Nothing is official until it’s announced.
“Nothing is official until it’s announced” – that disclaimer is as large as the story itself for a reason. Perdue was floated as the leading candidate before, only for rumors to quickly focus elsewhere. Just last week, the search was said to be broadening. And yet, with the inauguration now just weeks away, a post seen quite critical to red state/flyover country is among the last to be filled.
If Perdue is indeed tapped, Georgia would end up with two positions in Trump’s cabinet. Current 6th District Congressman Tom Price is the nominee to take over the top spot at Health and Human Services, becoming the point person to manage the process and implementation of repealing and replacing the Affordable Care Act.
