Morning Reads for Tuesday, January 24
Good morning! The situation in southwest Georgia remains dire. Updates are below, and here is the link to the donation page for the Second Harvest of South Georgia food bank.
- Here’s the latest news on the recovery from WALB in Albany.
- Photos from the devastated areas.
- Albany natives Luke Bryan and Phillip Phillips are organizing a benefit concert. They haven’t set a date yet – but it probably won’t be February 5, when Bryan is set to perform the National Anthem at the Superbowl.
- Georgia’s peanut producers target Millennials.
- Georgia’s
alcohol distributorslawmakers may be close to reaching an on-site sales compromise with the state’s independent brewers and distillers. - U.S. sweet potato consumption doubled over the past 15 years, which coincided nicely with a decline in tobacco production.
- Mothers and daughters explain why they marched on Saturday.
- And what’s the deal with those pink hats, anyway?
- Related: watch Knitter Twitter get fired up.
- Speaking of hats, will there be one for The Great Conservative Sorting?
- Trump’s cabinet has the most white men in a Presidential cabinet since 1981.
- His “National Day of Patriotic Devotion” isn’t as creepy as it sounds, thankfully.
- “Very Major” border tax on the way. #SmootHawley2017
- Related: He’s still hung up on millions of illegal votes (and it’s still not true).
- NOAA has a new weather satellite, and it’s probably going to be awesome!
- Make Playgrounds Great Again!
- If America’s first, can The Netherlands be second? Please? Grab ’em by the pony.

Did Trump forget to take action on DACA? Have not heard anything from him on this issue.
He’s working on his Day One promise for a Constitutional Congressional term limit amendment.
If they’d just let Dear Leader have his inaugural parade with tanks and guys in helmets the way he wanted maybe we could have avoided the National Day of Patriotic Devotion. But probably not. Alt-truther Kellyanne wrote that the NDOPD celebrates “a history of brilliant victories of Trump’s original idea of prioritizing the people of this great country and their wise leadership and a history of ardent loyalty and patriotic devotion, with which all the people of America have supported the party and the leader, the country and the people”.
Where did she say that? I don’t doubt that she did – but I want to cite it to someone.
Sorry, Teri, you’ve caught me out. I based the alt-truther’s quote on some remarks by and about Kim Jong-un. My apologies if I’ve caused you any trouble. I agree that it wouldn’t be at all surprising if those were actually her remarks, although she probably would have been more enthusiastic.
Ha! No worries. This is where we are, y’all, where one can legit take DPRK rhetoric as something Kellyanne would say.
Total allegiance! He said so in his inaugural address.
John McCain said “there’s also a realistic scenario that pigs fly” about his support for Rex Tillerson’s nomination. Any takers on when McCain and Graham cave on their proposal to require congressional approval before Trump could lift sanctions on Russia?
“Pence claims ‘over half’ of women’s march were Trump supporters”.

It’s contagious!
Did he specify upper or lower?
It’s an alternative fact.
Trump has filled those empty picture frames in the WH with pictures of…. himself.

Trump again says “illegals” cost him the popular vote.

You Republicans realize that he is probably deranged, right? I hope so, because if/when he crosses some line you are going to have to stop him before it’s too late. Nobody else can. You should get a plan in place now because when you need it you will need it fast.
Trump said in his inaugural that the crime and carnage stops here and now…but I see that promise has been broken—local news reported on 3 murdered near Greenbriar Mall the other night
Instead of repeal and replace, perhaps Congress should work on impeach and replace.
Wonder if Georgia will need to update some of it’s laws definitions on taxation and avaiation? For example now if you fly an aircraft you are required to have a pilots license from the faa. http://m.washingtontimes.com/news/2017/jan/18/drone-registration-exemption-flies-through-senate-/
“Chaos Muppet” has just replaced “President Twitter Fingers” as my favorite term.
Interesting story about transit options. I don’t really have a comment, just thought I would share. Food for thought.
