RIP Representative Burke Day
Coastal Georgia and our entire state lost a good man this weekend. Retired Rep. Burke Day died at his home on Tybee Island at the age of 62.
Burke served on the Tybee Island City Council from 1991 to 1994 and then in the Georgia House of Representatives for 16 years until he retired in 2010. He served his last three terms as the Chair of the Public Safety Committee.
To the public Burke was best known for co-authoring the Stephens-Day legislation freezing property tax reassessments in Chatham County that became a model for others communities to follow. In the Georgia House, however, he was best known for his calm, reasoned, and deliberate manner who was well liked and respected by all of us who knew and worked with him.
May the Peace of the Lord be with Burke’s family and many friends in this time of loss and remembrance.
