Morning Reads – Monday, March 27
It’s with a heavy heart that I wish everyone a happy Monday. Despite the gloomy storm we at GeorgiaPol are withstanding, the show must go on. Jon pumped his heart and mind into keeping you informed on Georgia’s political happenings. It’s with that in mind that we will strive to do better.
State
- Is white nationalism on the rise or are white nationalists merely more comfortable voicing their views? My guess is the latter.
- We keep the kids out of politics, but remember: It’s for the kids.
- Because we all need good news this morning.
- A couple is suing Georgia to name their daughter Allah.
- Georgia peanuts are expected to top 700,000 acres of land this year.
National
- Lyrics from 2002 are blowing up the internet.
- Area jerk has always been a jerk and we are SHOCKED.
- YouTube ad problems are blowing up in Google’s face.
- A step-by-step explanation of how the American Health Care Act failed.
- Now, let’s check in with the Obama family.
Important
- I made a donation last night to the American Cancer Society in honor of Jon Richards. You can donate here or donate to the cancer charity of your choice.

Disappointed some “conservatives” would not support the AHCA after most of their objections were met. Not sure if any of our Georgia repub house members were in this opposition group. Now we won’t see any Medicaid reform and the program will continue to grow
Jody Hice was the only republican member who was planning to vote no.
Well, since the freedom caucus crapped the bed on the AHCA I hope the folks at HHS will do everything they can through the administrative process to make it easier for people to get heath insurance that meets their needs and also try to drive down costs where they can.
All I have to say is that Trump needs to start acting like Trump from the campaign when dealing with the ass hats of the freedom caucus. They are going to do the same thing to him on tax reform unless he puts one of their heads on a spike.
About the name thing. Wouldn’t the parents simplify things for themselves tremendously if they just legally changed their last names to Allah? Why go through this rigamarole every time you have a child (they’re expecting #3) if you could just change your own name? Now, as for the part about getting a birth certificate with the last name Allah for their oldest with the last name Allah? Having dealt with Vital Records to get the correct birth certificate for my daughter, I completely buy this part of their story.
I side with the parents, but this is obligatory.

700,000 acres is a lot of peanuts, more than 1100 square miles. That’s about the size of Cobb, Cherokee, and Gwinnett counties put together. It’s also about 25 percent greater than the typical Georgia crop. The article informs that farmers are chasing high prices by cutting short the normal 3-4 year cycle between crops and warns that doing so could lead to increased disease. Of course, disease leads to crop loss which tends to push prices even higher so farmers who manage to get to market will probably be OK, but shaving crop cycles won’t work long-term.
