Morning Reads for Tuesday, June 13
One week until the CD6 runoff! Meanwhile, maybe it’s time to call an end to this whole American experiment and just make Dolly Parton Queen of America. Listen to Dolly’s cover of Brandi Carlile’s masterpiece “The Story” and try to tell me I’m wrong. She’s seventy-one years old, she’s nailing those high notes, and she remains devoted to making her community a better place. Dolly Parton is an American hero. Parton 2020!
- The New York Times is sending reporters beyond CD6. In fact, they had a feature story on Cumberland Island in this past Sunday’s paper.
- Atlanta chef Asha Gomez, whose cookbook My Two Souths is nominated for a Beard award, reconnected with her roots in India.
- Why are youth suicides increasing in Georgia?
- Yesterday marked the first anniversary of the horrific Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando, and Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed commemorated the event by announcing that the rainbow crosswalks at the intersection of Piedmont and 10th Street in Midtown Atlanta will be permanent.
- Two Cobb County band directors are in the running for a Grammy award.
- The City of Savannah was fined $20K for polluting an area stream.
- Should service animals be allowed to fly without being confined?
- The mall of the future might have a Panda Express, but it probably won’t have stores.

Why youth suicides up? Social media bullying…
Isn’t FLOTUS doing something about that?
The news-like deities listened and answered…

Ms Colotl will get to stay in Georgia a little longer. http://www.dailyreportonline.com/id=1202789496656/Ga-Judge-Blocks-Trump-Administration-From-Deporting-Woman?kw=Ga.%20Judge%20Blocks%20Trump%20Administration%20From%20Deporting%20Woman&et=editorial&bu=Daily%20Report&cn=20170613&src=EMC-Email&pt=Morning%20News

Love me some Dolly. Thanks for that link.
It’s still early in the week, so there’s plenty of time for Donald J. Trump or his administration to notch another accomplishment damaging the country.
Two correctional officers killed and two prisoners are on the loose in Putnam County.

Shouldn’t we have an alert system for something like this? I had to turn off the Amber alert/Maddie’s call alarms on my wife’s phone because I can do no good spotting a car tag when awakened in my bed. Wouldn’t it help law enforcement if the tag number of the car these guys hijacked was being broadcast to phones? Obviously with caveats to simply call law enforcement. The well being of the public should rate at least as high as a divorce custody battle. The people who live in the area should be notified by every means possible to lock and load.
Anybody know where I could find out the miles of roads in unincorporated Dade County not state or federal and the same for the city of Trenton?
I’d call the road department. They probably cite the mileage at budget time.
It sounds like a process of elimination. Get all the roads in the county and start deleting those in each municipality? Might need to try to find a college student who needs a project.
I can give you the map of any DOT and county road.

Interesting read. The part I found fascinating was when the Dept. of HS was trying to make sure the databases were safe, and many republican Sec. of State (including Kemp) got all worked up over it. It does not say if Georgia was one of the 39 breached, but now after the horse to out of the barn and almost 2 states away, we still need to fix the barn to save the other horses.

Yep. I was wondering about Kemp too. He did quiet down pretty quick about it, I’m guessing that’s why.

2/3rds of voters in GA-6 are “Extremely Concerned” or “Very Concerned” about climate change, including 43% of Republicans. AJC poll, no crosstabs available.
There’s a Prost and a Senna on the same team for LeMans.
I don’t know if that’s irony, or some wheel/full circle thing, or what. But it’s interesting.
I just got a phone call asking me to vote for @karenhandel pronounced hanDELL It was entirely about abortion.
Is it any of our business if Mrs. Handel has ever had an abortion? She is making a lot of noise about it. One of these days, an anti abortion politician is going to get confronted about this.
I agree about Dolly…even wrote about it

Interesting article today about Terry McCauliffe for prez in 2020. Strong choice to be honest. Dem’s wet dream? Hillary for VP…
So a man born in Minnesota, tweeting ‘Nothing is worse than a Yankee telling a Southerner that his monuments don’t matter’ almost won the VA GOP governor race…
“You do have a big problem when you have units that are from states and counties and even towns. And one of those regiments can get in a tight spot in a particular battle, like in the cornfield at Sharpsburg. And the news may be that there are no more young men in that town. They’re all dead.”
Shelby Foote
“The streets grew quiet when news of Gettysburg reached Clarksville, Tennessee. The 14th Tennessee regiment had left town two years before with 960 men. When the Battle of Gettysburg began, only 365 remained. By the end of the first day there were 60 men left. By the end of the battle, there were only 3.” — Ken Burns’ The Civil War
