Morning Reads for June 14, 2017
As most of us shuffle across the house this morning for that first cup of coffee, in Middle Georgia there are Law Enforcement Officers who have continued the search throughout the night for the two men who murdered two Georgia Correctional Officers yesterday morning. There isn’t anything new to report on the massive manhunt that is ongoing, but our hearts and prayers go out to the families of Officer Monica and Officer Billue, as well as the Georgia Department of Corrections.
- Columbus is looking to add a VA Clinic in South Columbus. A first reading of the request to re-zone occurred Tuesday evening and will go back before the City Council on June 20th.
- The GBI has identified the counterfeit pills related to the multiple overdoses in South Georgia last month. U-47700 is a synthetic opioid 7.5 times stronger than morphine.
- The Georgia Teacher of the Year award went to a former Army Officer from Worth County.
- Metro Atlanta and UGA are smiling pretty this morning as their representatives in the annual Miss Georgia Pageant take the first awards of the season.
- Across the pond, a 24 story high-rise apartment building in London is on fire, claiming the lives of several and leaving others trapped as first responders are working frantically.
- Attorney General Jeff Sessions testified in front of the Senate Intelligence Committee yesterday.
- A former Northern Little Leaguer (2006 Little League World Series CHAMPS) was the 46th overall pick for the Milwaukee Brewers.
- For you all artsy types, I hate to disappoint you, but that story about Van Gough’s ear isn’t true…
- And finally, because we only have a few more days until it’s over, Politico and Bloomberg News are both talking about the Russians hacking Georgia’s Special Election.

I had to look that one up.
Worth County for Teacher of the Year? Is that irony, coincidence, or on purpose? Same school as the sheriff frisking the entire student body.

You are a disgrace.
How so? I just linked an article who’s headline said what I wrote. But call Noway a “disgrace”, not the maggot that actually shot the congressman. I do not understand you, B.
Thank God Capitol Hill Police Officer was there to take down the Piece Of S*** shooter. Prayers for her, I believe, speedy recovery!!
This building has an new exterior insulated cladding material on it from it’s 2016 remodel. If you look at the photos of early pictures, you will see the flames are shooting out of the lower sections of the windows in the majority of the openings. Even with out a sprinkler system in a building, flames feed up, so it is unlikely the lower interior surface is igniting first.
Although there have been reports of a gas smell in the building – which might have started the fire, exterior walls should not have that quick of a flame spread on new cladding.
