Morning Reads — We’re Late (Again) Edition
Happy…Wednesday, everyone? You’re getting a double shot of Will Kremer this week. Today’s Morning Reads a tad late. We regret the error and blame others.
Congratulations to the new hires heading to Washington D.C. with Congressman Handel.

Did you folks change the page look or is my box acting up again?
I guess it could be both.
We are having some technical difficulties.
We regret the errors and blame others.
Dang DHS or ruskies. Maybe you can get Kemp to investigate.
Russians.
Russians, Kemp, DHS… is there a difference?
Healthcare bill: A single payer healthcare system controlled by bureaucrats with unlimited ability to borrow and pay while avoiding crushing taxation is a financial deal breaker.
The Republican Obamacare lite is select patients where the providers are members of corporate oligarchs is a path to burdensome debt and taxation.
This tug of war is a disaster for patients and taxpayers.
Congress could privatize the industry, regulate it, sort out revenue requirements for insurance/Medicare/Medicaid/public employee plan subsidies and let those that don’t want to be insured wait in line at a charity or government owned hospital.
It is not going to happen. Congress has their medical plan and a tremendous largess system from the industry that they aren’t going to mess with.
We may want what they got but the nation cannot afford it. They need to participate in whatever they establish.
There are so many wrongs here I almost don’t know where to begin.
I’ll start with this. “Congress has their medical plan and a tremendous largess system from the industry that they aren’t going to mess with.” Members of Congress and their staff are on Obamacare and it sucks. This myth that members have some gold plated health insurance plan for life is just that…a myth. Stop spreading the lie.
In January of 2014 all members and staff were put into the DC business exchange. Even if you lived in Georgia, Ohio or Nevada you had to buy a plan out of DC. It was far from ideal. Not sure if you were there after 2014 or not but premiums have been steadily climbing. The website also sucked and took months of yelling about people to actually get coverage.
I will step back a bit and remark that most are on a gold plan, majority of costs paid and many have avenues for full coverage. I agree with ACP’s remark.
But you said they needed to participate in what they establish. They do. Simply pointing that out.
So, the days of Members being treated at Bethesda Naval Hospital are over?? Are you certain they get no health benefits simply because they are Members?
“Are you certain they get no health benefits simply because they are Members?” Yes, those times are over. So are the huge retirement packages. They get a 401(k) with up to a 5% match. No lifetime paycheck for serving only one term. That is an urban legend. The free health care at Bethesda is a myth too.
I’m 100% certain on this. Not everything on the google machine is true.
To Drew: I thought so. No way in hell Members are simply gonna be covered ONLY by Obamacare. So, they aren’t being covered like the average schmoe.
This was not true 5 minutes ago and it isn’t true now. They are on the ACA exchange and can not go to a military hospital for free.
Also, the office of the attending physician hands out cough drops and takes your blood pressure for free. So yeah. They get that.
Eiger, I’m not being snarky, I just don’t believe it. No way they’d allow that. And the lifelong pension thing did apply after six years.
That’s not true either. I promise.
As to pensions, Congress members serving more then 5 years can get a annuity based on the average pay of the top three years served and years served. Its a different formula then the life time mega pension issued prior to 1984 under the Civil Service Retirement System. The only people currently collecting CSRS plans are members who had 20 years in prior in January 1, 1984. I can not think of one who is still alive who is receiving one, and I can only think of a few spouses.
The current Federal Employees Retirement System has an defined benefit plan (AKA pension), the Thrifty Saving Plan (401(k)), and social security.
Here is a link on how the pension is paid out.

Here is a link of the pension in action. If you roll to the end you can see what Kingston is estimated to receive.

Healthcare ranting continued: just had coffee with a Doc about Medicare: insurance company payouts generally run between the Medicare benchmarks and their negotiated contracts with providers. The higher billings either generate revenue from the uninsured/out of network or provide writeoffs.
Medicare’s problem is the level of misuse and fraud. So big that enforcement is selective. Those focused on pushing the limits or outright fraud on government programs is incredible because oversight is so lax. One topic was the secondary market in medical supplies, just follow the ads for “we can get it free for you” and “we will buy it from you” The Feds can’t even sort out patients getting the same thing through multiple docs.
Need a $5 k electric wheelchair fir chesp?
Edit: ……wheelchair cheap? :>)
There is most certainly fraud in Medicare, but that is not the largest cost driver in the program. CMS and their regulations on docs and providers are partly to blame. With the new administration those types of non legislative fixes to Medicare are being looked into.
By regulation I did mean to imply regulation that is restrictive to the level of what we have going on today.
The medical industry is way ahead of our legislators, consolidating, turf protection, special bills, closed markets and so on. Regulation is needed to protect patient rights. And to keep the industry open and fair.
Look for CNN to get the boot from the WH…
I still maintain the 2nd amendment needs an addendum to require basic intelligence and/or sanity:

If so, the your litmus test should also apply to the right to vote .
Lol! You know how Trump could assure his reelection? Send CNN packing from the press room!! God, could you imagine the Deplorables ‘ reaction to that?! One more thing, it is about time for them Trump babies to be popping out!
Thank God for O’keefe. His expose of the body-part seller murderers at Planned Parenthood itself deserves The Pulitzer.
You keep bleveing that edited horsesh-t. The words we ALL heard came tumbling out of their disgusting yaps’
Why O’Keefe is not going to win a Pulitzer
https://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/style/what-you-dont-see-in-okeefe-video-may-be-as-important-as-what-you-do/2017/06/28/dcb67446-5b7c-11e7-a9f6-7c3296387341_story.html?utm_term=.2e1bb68f4bce
O’Keefe doctored tapes. He quotes a person not involved in the Political news area (out of context) as being a major supervisor, O’Keefe lies. He creates his own narrative. He creates his own set of ‘facts’ He misrepresents the story and passes it off as real. How is this not ‘fake news’? By your own standards Noway, he is no better the CNN (except he has yet to correct his errors, fire staff, and retract the story). You scorn CNN. Why do you celebrate O’Keefe?
‘But,but, but…Myrtle, are you gonna believe me or yore lying’ ears and eyes?!?! ” The undercover film makers caught the PP filth dead to rights. They should be and will eventually be in jail.
Someone is eventually going to jail…
