It looks like state Sen. Rick Jeffares’ (R-McDonough) campaign for lieutenant governor may have more firepower behind it than we thought. On Thursday, he secured the endorsement of U.S. Rep. Drew Ferguson (R-3), who represents some of the same areas as Jeffares in Congress. Ferguson also donated $5,000 to Jeffares’ campaign.
Jeffares faces the current Senate President Pro Tempore David Shafer (R-Duluth) in the Republican primary. State Sen. Steve Gooch (R-Dahlonega) might jump into the race too, which would pit three state Senate Republicans against each other. Needless to say, the 2018 General Assembly session will be quite interesting if none of them resign in order to raise funds during session.
