Morning Reads for Independence Day
In honor of Independence Day, and because I’m writing these on July 3, let’s take a deep dive into Georgia music history with Kelly Hogan and The Jody Grind (yes, that’s Mike Mills on mandolin):
What, y’all thought I’d give you a crying eagle?
- Are your pets terrified of fireworks? David Tennant to the rescue!
- Can a divided country celebrate our independence together?
- How late can you shoot fireworks in Georgia, anyway?
- SYAC: 11:59 PM – but that’s just for today, yesterday, and New Year’s Eve. The rest of the year, it’s 9 PM.
- Here’s the first meeting of the House Commission on Transit Governance & Funding!
- Yes, the gnats are worse this year.
- An earthquake hit LaFayette yesterday evening.
- Everyone’s favorite submarine, Boaty McBoatface, finished its (her?) first mission.
- Rex Tillerson is “destroying” the State Department.
- New Jersey Governor Chris Christie truly, deeply, profoundly DGAF.
- Colorado Springs’ Libertarian-style municipal government didn’t work out all that well for residents.
- There are no children on Mars – but twenty years ago today, Pathfinder landed and it’s been there ever since.

“Run for governor, and you can have the residence” should be on his coat of arms.
I liked the pix of Christie lounging on the beach while Burt Lancaster and Donna Reed embrace in the rushing surf.
Christie said he didn’t get any sun that day—until the photos emerged—then the explanation was he had on sunscreen and a hat.
.
When in the GOP, do what its leader does and the rank and file supports, lie. But you’re no Trump, Christie.

The deep state CBO got the GOP Heathcare legislation scoring all wrong too. The alternative fact is we shouldn’t be counting people that don’t want to buy insurance or pay for healthcare as people losing coverage. Doesn’t freedom count for anything anymore?
.
Besides, if people want insurance they can either get off their butts if they’re unemployed or get a better job if they are. It doesn’t matter that healthcare insurance in the US is inextricably linked to employment. There’s lots of interstate off-ramps not yet taken where the elderly and disabled can panhandle to supplement Medicaid reductions. Kids panhandling in the summer when school is out will keep ‘em out of trouble and show ‘em the value of hustling.
I am in the process of digitizing all my old (worthwhile) vinyl. Swimming Pool Q’s, The Heartfixers (early Tinsley Ellis), early B52’s.
Not sure what happened to all my old tapes. Desperate Angels, Rose Whipper, The Para Band, The Brains.
I guess I’m aging myself.
Beach Boys are kicking a– on channel 8!
How the hell is this even legal? If the folks own the homes, how can they be told to leave or face arrest? What am I missing from a legal point of view? Drew?

Ok. With that said, do property owners rights end with this shutdown? Not snarling you, but if I legitimately own the property, I’d tell the Fat F*** Guv to kiss my a$$! Incredible over reach. As a former DS Agent, (State’s equivalent to the Secret Service) we never did this with any of our protectees. Just like they have freedom of speech to call the Secretary a skunk, for instance, a property owner sure as hell has the right to occupy his own home. I genuinely hope I’m missing something very basic here. Even if property rights are limited because this is in a state park, the optics on this severely hurt the Guv.
Fair enough. If Christie had been smart he would never, ever have allowed his security to do this. In fact an officer at the door of each home apologizing to the Guv’s “intrusion” would have been brilliant.
Y’all have a good chuckle at my side’s expense!!

Speaking of NJ, did anything ever happen to Corzine for his supposed mismanagment of investor funds a few years ago?
