In an article first posted on All On Georgia-Muscogee County, Richard Hyatt reports that State Senator Josh Mckoon (R-Columbus) will file his intent to run for Secretary of State tomorrow.
McKoon has served in the State Senate since 2010 representing parts of Muscogee (Columbus) and Troup, and all of Harris and Meriwether counties. A graduate of Furman University and the University of Alabama Law School, Senator McKoon practices law in Columbus. Last summer, McKoon married Jacquline Byrd, owner and President of Constituent Connect, LLC, which provides constituent services for both House and Senate members on both sides of the aisle under the Gold Dome.
Senator McKoon joins two colleagues vying for the state-wide position. House Rep. Buzz Brockway (R-Lawrenceville) announced in April, and House Rep. Brad Raffensperger (R- Johns Creek) announced soon there after.
McKoon was rumored to run for Congress last year in GA-03, which was vacated by Lynn Westmoreland. More recently, he was rumored to run for Governor. Those who run in political circles are probably not surprised by Senator McKoon seeking a higher office and this announcement simply adds one more piece to the puzzle that is the 2018 Political Landscape.
