Congressman Doug Collins Discusses The Digital Divide In The US
Congressman Doug Collins (R-GA-09) was on CBS This Morning earlier in the week to discuss the lack of access for rural areas and the legislation (Gigabit Opportunity Act) he has introduced to address it. You can check out the video here:
“Rural Internet access” probably invokes the thought of the farmer who can’t get high-speed Internet access, but the reality is that it hurts growing communities even in the metro Atlanta area. Dawsonville is a growing area as more people move into communities along the GA-400 corridor, but people are struggling to get speeds faster than 10 Mbps (the FCC definition of high-speed broadband is at least 25 Mbps) download speed. Adequate available and reliable broadband Internet access will be crucial as more and more people move into these areas.

It’s all about the free market and deregulation, except when it’s not.
Internet access is a basic human right.
Access to healthcare is reserved for those who can afford it.
Preacher Doug:
ETC (Ellijay Phone Company) has awesome internet for Gilmer and Fannin Counties. I hook directly into my cable modem for 145 mps downloads and 5 mps uploads.
The should be looked at as a possible model for supplying HSI rurally. But don’t mess with net neutrality! AND NO COMCAST. EVER!
