Republicans that claim they didn’t know anything about Manafort doing the bidding of unsavory foreign governments in Washington ignore the obvious. It’s been Manafort’s career for over 25 years.
.
(I know, I know. How could a billionaire with extensive foreign business dealings running for President know to vet his campaign staff on their extensive foreign business connections? And if the campaign did know, so what? The Trump campaign didn’t have the resources to search the web or ask Manafort questions.)
.
An excerpt from a 1992 report: https://cloudfront-files-1.publicintegrity.org/legacy_projects/pdf_reports/THETORTURERSLOBBY.pdf
.
“Former Reagan political operative Paul Manafort oversees foreign accounts; his partner, Charles R. Black, was a senior political strategist in the 1992 Bush-Quayle campaign. Their firm’s fees to represent Nigeria. Kenya, the Philippines and Angola’s UNITA rebel group in 1991 totaled more than $3 million. All four receive U.S. aid and abuse human rights. A spokeswoman for Black, Manafort, Stone and Kelly told the Center that the firm does not “attempt to explain away” concerns about human rights. Instead, she said, “we try to open a dialogue”.”
.
Does “open a dialogue” sound familiar? It’s what Manafort was doing when he met with Don Jr, and Kushner and Russians in June 2016. If the meeting was a mistake, why did Don Jr lie about it?
Thanks for the Jack the Ripper link (even though everyone knows Queen Victoria was the real Jack) especially because it led me to wikipedia and this story about the Servant Girl Annihilator.
Fake news or an alternative fact? — you make the call. “Study links hikes in premiums to Trump” — AP — “The analysis released yesterday by the Kaiser Family Foundation found that mixed signals from President Donald Trump have created “uncertainty far outside the norm” and led insurers to seek higher premium increases for 2018 than would otherwise be the case.
.
“Nobody knows the system better than me, which is why I alone can fix it,” is reason enough for it to be McConnell’s fault if the “very easy, easy to get done” Obamacare repeal and replace, and tax cuts and reform, aren’t accomplished, said Trump in between rounds of vacation golf.
That Yale carving deserved to be covered up because it was stupid and ugly.
And counterproductively depicting a violent past (although one could argue that the gun pointed at the Native American’s head was unintentional…). It’s not a weakness of conscience to say that symbol is regressive and offensive so we should ditch it– that’s strength of character and conviction. Otoh, it’s not tolerance or strength to say we must live in the past, or relive it, despite evolution to the contrary. That’s the failure of strength to evolve.
There is simply no benefit, and only costs to victims, when glorifying or perpetuating crime or hate.
