Morning Reads for Friday, September 29, 2017
- The Porch Light Latin Kitchen (Smyrna) and Buen Provecho (Marietta) restaurants are taking donations for Puerto Rico. Deadline is tomorrow. UPDATE: The response has been so overwhelming, that Andre of PLLK is asking that we hold our donations for now, until the group can round up MORE trucks.
- Not from ‘round here, are ya? That’s what neighbors do.
- Mean girls.
- As long as you live near the interstate in South Georgia, your internet should be just dandy.
- Oh, those insidious, hidden meanings everywhere.
- A Putin under every pew.
- Bad form.
- Honestly. I couldn’t make this stuff up if I tried.
- Night mayor. Is that like Night Court?
- Keep your eye on Agung in Bali.

Meanwhile, Tom Price has admitted to being part of the problem…
That’s why he’s agreed to pay only part of the cost of his private travel.
I had planned to comment this morning that people should until the IG’s report was complete before judging Price’s travel at government expense, but Price’s nolo contendere-like action indicate that’s unnecessary.
News: “Bipartisan Effort To Strip NFL Of Taxpayer Funding For Stadiums Is Gaining Steam”
Maybe the Deplorable and Disgraceful could just stand quietly.
That’s not going to annoy “the league”, just a few owners. Taking away their tax exempt status of the league – that annoys the entire front off, the merchandise stream, and 31 of 32 owners.
It’s not a proper end of the week without some words right from the horse’s mouth, and a little commentary on them.
.
Trump earlier: “As far as Puerto Rico is concerned, we’ve had tremendous reviews from government officials, as we did in Texas, and we have in Louisiana, and as we have in Florida from Governor Scott and … Greg Abbott. Great governors. And this morning the governor made incredible statements about how well we’re doing. We understand that it’s a disaster. A disaster that just happened.”
.
Where “just happened” means a week before he spoke, plus the additional week which it was clear Maria was heading to Puerto Rico. Trump then showed off he remembered something for a briefing—he’s a quick study—that Puerto Rico is an island. Plus more bragging.
.
Trump: “This is a thing called the Atlantic Ocean. This is … tough stuff. The governor has been so incredible in his statements about the job we’re doing. We’re doing a great job.”
Greater than anyone, ever, natch:
.
Trump: “We’re going to do far more than anyone else would ever be able to do. And it’s being recognized as such.”
.
So how did Trump find the time to save Puerto Rico given his NFL speech and two dozen tweets about the NFL protests?
.
Trump: “I have plenty of time on my hands. All I do is work.”
.
Who knew that sitting on the pot in pre-dawn darkness tweeting was work?
Given the GOP is pivoting from healthcare to tax reform and the budget, I’m in agreement with this tweet from LOL GOP — “I only want to pay for the nuclear weapons my family is personally going to use”
I will be in PR in a week. Info was hard to get. The damage is beyond belief and was behind other catastrophes. Massive relief might have been faster but a lot was being done that isn’t all over our media.
The blame attention should not be sucked away from the PR government that also owns the power company. They have bankrupted the country and been negligent in keeping up the infrastructure for so many years that there is no quick fix.
Whatcha going to be doing in PR, if you don’t mind me asking?
I wonder WHO mentioned Haiti as a comparison yesterday…
No money for Grady, no money for children’s health care. Glad we’re winning.

Lost in the presidents last Friday night rant of the NFL was his commenst about players not hitting hard enough, and refs making calls to impress their wives at home.
Note – a player got a very hard hit. Note – ref did not make the ejection call thus not impressing his wife at home.

From businessman in PR: Democrat mayor of SJ stands in front of aid going off on Trump. He advises that many truck drivers in PR have had to put their families first and have not reported to work as expected. They will ASAP.
?Except for noway, you can’t offend him more.
