Bad news. It appears that even John Kelly is getting out of his depth.

What chief of staff would ever say: “Unless things change, I’m not quitting. I’m not getting fired.”
Or Kelly insisting Trump wants to get rid of nuclear weapons, despite the summer meeting that caused Tillerson to call Trump a moron when Trump proposed increasing nuclear arms, or a Trump tweet that “The United States must greatly strengthen and expand its nuclear capability until such time as the world comes to its senses regarding nukes”.

Kelly had been maintaining dignity by avoiding outright lies, but that’s crumbling too. Kelly this week on Trump: “He’s a very thoughtful man. He takes information in from any avenue he can receive it.”
Last week the NYT laid out reasons that decertifying Iran compliance is stupid.

• It ignores that the deal is working.
• It sends the wrong message to Iran, and that’s dangerous.
• It doesn’t help in the fight against the Islamic State.
• It ignores the complexity of the region.
• It undermines trust in America and the country’s ability to negotiate in the future.
• It would alienate our allies and make a bad situation with North Korea even worse.

Why should North Korea, or anyone else for that matter, negotiate with the US on anything,, since Trump is making clear that treaties and deals with the United States have no value?.

It doesn’t matter. It’s like water off a ducks back. We’ll have another misguided, misinformed, deceptive, fake news-as-definitive evidence entry tomorrow or the next day. The “winning” isn’t in the text, it’s in the action.
A part of me wishes that Trump could follow through with his threats to punish fake-news outlets. The vast majority of RW media would (or should) get shut down first.
Of course this is dangerous and (hopefully) not actionable so I’ll just have to console myself that the mainstream news annoys him so much.
I have a colleague who does body guarding work in Hollywood. He says many male stars and executives are literally shaking in their boots as a result of this Weinstein expose. According to him, this is just the beginning of what will come out!
