- Not a good ranking. All of us have aging parents, and this should be a bigger deal.
- CSI for animal cruelty.
- Who cares. Just report the facts, Jack.
- Blimey, it’s gonna get cold across the pond. Next time you know, they’ll all be in Florida.
- Pass the popcorn.
- This is not a drill, people.
- Ann Althouse on the train wreck.
- What is wrong with these people? Yes, I know the link is from March. Still, it burns, the stupid.
- How’s about tracking down more terrorists, sport, instead of worrying about who gets into the Mile-High Club?
- Faster, please.
- 41 days until The Last Jedi. Here are some silly Star Wars jokes to amuse while you wait. (Go ahead, it’s ok to laugh).

From Russia With Love: 2:10 video with nearly 1M views as of last night to start your weekend with a hoot: https://www.thepoke.co.uk/2017/10/29/video-trumps-downfall-went-viral-just-beautifully-done/ It’s only a matter of time before alternative reality can be documented on video.

I don’t have a dog in this hunt but are you that anxious for President Trump to be replaced by President Pence (who is more competent, has a much better work ethic, far more capable as a former congressman and governor, has a much better grasp of policy … and oh yeah is far more partisan AND much more conservative)?
I remember thinking the same thing back during the 1990s … that the Democrats actually would have been far better suited by replacing Bill Clinton with Al Gore. As “Clinton fatigue” cost Gore the 2000 election and Trump was able to use the Democrats’ defense of Bill Clinton to blunt the fallout from the Access Hollywood tape in 2016, I believe that I was right.
Currently “establishment” Republicans despise Trump as much as you do but can’t act out of fear of reprisal from their own base as well as it would give the Democrats an opening to exploit to advance the Dem agenda. That factor – for instance – already kept the GOP from being able to do anything on healthcare and it is emerging again on tax reform. There are now 4 distinct camps in the GOP – there used to be only 3 – and it takes actual skill and hard work of the sort that Trump is not interested in to unite enough of them to pass an agenda. That isn’t going to change because 3 of those 4 camps are secretly hoping that Trump loses a primary challenge in 2020. But impeach Trump? It would take 2 seconds for them to rally around Pence in response, and they will pass as much legislation as possible – including items from Trump’s agenda that are politically popular like infrastructure reform but they won’t lift a finger to advance it now because, again, it’s Trump agenda – in order to maximize his chances of winning the 2020 election.
Impeaching Trump – while incorporating some elements of Trump’s populism as a necessary counterweight to the neocon ideology that has dominated the GOP since the George H. W. Bush presidency (they call themselves “Reagan Republicans” but the GOP agenda is actually Bush’s, as Reagan was as much main street as wall street as many choose to forget) – would not only be the one thing that may save the GOP at this juncture but it might actually make them stronger. You would have to explain to me why throwing the GOP a lifeline instead of merely letting them sink is good politics. It may be good principle – the rule of law and all that – but I question the politics. Actually then again since the Democrats pretty much showed that they really aren’t principled at all – on the rule of law, sexual harassment/assault/rape etc. – when it came to the Clintons, a gift that just kept on giving, then why pretend otherwise: focus on the politics.
It’s not really the kind of thing you do by choice. If Trump is corrupt and/or incompetent and/or dangerous then we should try to remove him. If Pence turns out to be more partisan or whatever, so be it. None of us should just stand by and accept the march towards fascism (except fascists of course). We’re not talking about leadership of the local Moose Lodge here where the implications are limited.
Keeping Trump would be a no-brainer if it could be confirmed that Trump has the WH garage door opener instead of a nuclear button in hand. It’s a tough call now. Beyond that, there’s another three years denigration of our system of government to consider. There’s not going to be a reset when Trump’s gone—just more of it—it’s currently the GOP’s primary path to office. There’s Roy Moore in AL, whom Trump didn’t even support, in a deep red state, and the campaign of “establishment” Ed Gillespie in purple VA illuminating the GOP way forward.
The clip was offered for humor. Trump isn’t going anywhere. It’s takes the crimes on the scale of a Madoff for those kinds of perp walks—thery’re for people stealing hot dogs from Kroger. I think it unlikely Trump will be prosecuted while in office for anything that’s happened to date.
Four camps instead of three? Three of them are very small, splitting less than a third of the minority party (in terms of total voters) vote between ’em. And their leadership continues to dwindle. Hensarling and Smith cast off this week.
Saints or the Aint’s, you decide.

Wednesday senior GOP Rep Hensarling said he wasn’t running for re-election. Yesterday fellow Texan Lamar Smith, the Science, Space and Technology Committee Chairman, said, “For several reasons, this seems like a good time to pass on the privilege of representing the 21st District to someone else.” Another senior GOP House member casting off….er…can now move on since America is Great Again.
According to the CDC annual Motor Vehicle deaths, 33,736 and ALL firearm deaths. 33,594
Estimated there are at least 251,454 deaths due to medical errors annually in the United States. 3½ times more than vehicle and firearm combined.
Again now where do we need more control?

Wow, pigs must be flying. Andrew and I agree on a health care related topic.
I knew I felt a distinct temperature drop and the earth move earlier. So this is what caused it.

More like one step closer to Armageddon. I think we’re up to 3 or 4 of the 7 now.
For everyone who complained that the week following the Las Vega’s shootings was too soon to discuss new bump stock regulations……. “there has not been a single hearing, vote or regulatory change in Washington, demonstrating once again the power and inflexibility of the gun lobby. Bump stock bills have failed to gain traction in Congress, while the prospect of a regulatory fix from the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) has faded, too.”
https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/congress/month-after-las-vegas-rapid-fire-bump-stocks-are-untouched-n816761
Bump stocks or slide fire devices should have been disallowed from jump by ATF. I suspect some grease was applied and not just that needed by the devices in question. In lieu of an outright ban the owners should be required to register them and require the same special licensing required for full automatic weapons. This is a no-brainer. There is absolutely no self defense or any other justification that these devices are needed by the average citizen.
Oh, your other legal methods are still there without even requiring the special licensing needed for fully automatic weapons or grenade launchers. Keep in mind the Orlando shooter killed 49 with two perfectly legal semi-automatics. You can always attach a 100-shot dual drum magazine to your semi-auto AR15 which would be able to fire as fast as you can pull the trigger with more accuracy than bump firing. Or perhaps put a 30 shot drum on your semi-auto Saiga 12 shotgun for a total of 270 .33 caliber pellets from a standard 00 buckshot load without reloading. Or my personal fav would be a civil war era 12 pounder cannon with either canister or grapeshot. Keep in mind though on the cannon that there is a legal possession limit of 50 pounds of black powder without special licensing. Granted, it is impractical but a cannon is perfectly legal and oh so much more fun as long as the powder and shot are separate.
The 4th Amendment may be shot to hell, so to speak, but the “living document” detractors often fail to note how accommodating many modern interpretations have been used to uphold the 2nd.

Ok, why is Noway posting an article about a Salt lake City carjacking murder? Fair question…
Because my NIECE had direct contact with the killer hours before he did the carjacking! Long story short…she was walking her large dogs in a local park. The dogs were rambunctious and becoming difficult to handle getting them back in the car. This A$$hole and a female companion were in the park, too. They helped her get the dogs back into her car! She said they were asking weird questions while helping. “Where do these trails go?” “What time does it get dark here?” She later recognized the guy from his teardrop tattoo. She thought the couple were kind of creepy at the time. Wow!! Now, you’ll forgive and excuse me if I look at kitten videos on YouTube for a spell. Our world is totally and irretrievably **cked up! Just damn…
That does suck, although your niece is relatively lucky. So, the world cannot be 100% messed up. Maybe over 50%? Also, no problem caused by humans/humanity cannot also be remedied by humans/humanity. No need to abandon all hope.
On the good news, they did catch the man and his wife. They are both being extradited to Colorado for a unrelated car jacking and murder of a Colorado man.
This is my current fav for kitten videos.

Someone here had suggested a few days ago that all mayors since Maynard Jackson were his protoges. I think I might have questioned that, but here is a story describing the lineage:
