Morning Reads for Wednesday, November 29, 2017
Ed is off wandering the world, laptop-less. Again. So, you got me. We’re going to go with a hodge-podge format this morning.
Welcome to Wednesday.
- Not local to us, but this is pretty big news this morning for Tampa.
- North Korea is a pretty active subject this morning.
- Columbus hospital names new CEO.
- Gov. Deal names Gretchen Corbin new Lottery Chief.
- LaGrange consideres healthcare coverage change for city employees.
- Atlanta’s Mayoral race is in a dead heat according to a new Fox5 poll.
- The city of Savannah and Chatham County are ending a Law Enforcement merger and it’s becoming a costly venture.
- I’m not crying…YOU’RE CRYING.
- And just because I am unashamedly semi-obsessed with all things Royal; weddings, babies, Americans becoming royalty, etc..

SCOTUS hears oral arguments today in Carpenter v United States, a 4A case dealing with the collection and delivery of cellphone records to the government without a warrant. Amy Howe has a preview of the case at SCOTUSblog (where she is now an independent reporter/contractor).
Been meaning to tell you thanks for the SCOTUS updates. I dont regularly visit SCOTUSblog (though I should) so your comments always remind me to go back!
“It never occurred to me that I could just say to President Obama that I’m not showing up.” – Mitch McConnell in response to Schumer and Pelosi informing Trump they wouldn’t show at a meeting.
McConnell, is either lying and doesn’t remember, whatever, since GOP Congressional representation refused to meet with Obama: https://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2010/11/18/hoyer-gop-leaders-snubbed-obama/ (I know, I know, this is totally different since buffoon Obama is African—not a real American—and a secret Muslim out to destroy the country, not Make America Great Again.)
The administration response to them declining to meet: “The president’s invitation to the Democrat leaders still stands and he encourages them to put aside their pettiness, stop the political grandstanding, show up and get to work.”
Stop the political grandstanding? Trump pre-meeting tweet from the pooper: “Meeting with “Chuck and Nancy” today about keeping government open and working. Problem is they want illegal immigrants flooding into our Country unchecked, are weak on Crime and want to substantially RAISE Taxes. I don’t see a deal!”
Highest paid member of NBC News, maybe the most powerful – fired. No public revelation, no notice. No rummors or speculation. No warning to co-workers. Just fired – for harassment.
There will be more.
Biggest Lib scalp thus far…
Semi serious question, with no gloating, how does someone indignantly rake Trump’s “locker room” talk over the coals with a straight face, when he knows he’s got similar worries? Same for Charlie Rose. Same for O’Reilly. They must read that teleprompter with a big knot in their stomachs. Next group of “powerful” men to be targeted will be rock stars. As we all know, the women go nuts there. Abuse has to be rampant.
I can’t say in the cases of men you listed, but the guy we cornered me (which I mentioned a few weeks ago) thought himself untouchable in his little fiefdom. He was the only one in the origination who did what he did and frankly he was very good at it. Plus, his cousin was on the board. He was a narcissist who was charming when he needed to be, a good leader when required and a nasty back stabber with a cruel twist of a phrase when he knew no one ‘important’ was around. He even quoted scripter to justify a women lower status to men in general (he was also my introduction to evangelical Southern Baptists, but that a different story).
When a name is released, you see the shock of some people who just can’t believe it was some one they knew, some one they trusted. If you watched the Today show announcement, you could see Savannah struggle with this.
I do take issue on your use of the term – group of “powerful” men to be targeted – because it’s BS. What I don’t think people understand is how angry a majority of women are in American and how in the last 18 months it has slowly grown. It’s just not the “lib” women, either. Gretchen Carlson’s book was the read last month in friend’s Christian’s Mothers’ group. I was at an industry lunch in South Carolina this summer with a group of mainly conservative professional women – one of the speaker’s talking about pay equality quoted the great Dee Snyder Seriously, one moment she’s talking about Elizabeth Dole and then moves on to quoting Twisted Sister lyrics. The whole refine too.
Yet to feel that spotlight, Wall Street/Banking, the tech sector, or the federal bench. Don’t think for one moment politics, entertainment or media are done. And it’s going start working it’s way to your levels of employment and networking. Take a look around you, at your jobs, your social circles, your house of worship. It’s estimated 40% of women have been sexually harassed at work at some level, be it lewd comments directed at them to the extreme of being assaulted. That’s 2 out of 5 of the women you know and see every day. Even if it was just 20 %, that’s still one out of every 5. It is not just a handful of men who are doing the harassing. If you want to be conservative, say it’s 1 out of 10 men (but we all know it’s higher). Which one among the 10 men you know are the predictors?
There will be more. Many, many more.
you said it better that I could Ellynn. Thank you!
Even as a male I can appreciate your viewpoint more than I can expound upon here. And yes the Weinstein avalanche is still going strong and probably justified in the examples we have seen so far. As there is a profound biological difference between the sexes in the motivations behind most human sexuality however what percentage of women would you say use their sexuality to exploit men?
Or…
“It’s not that big of a deal” defense.
“That’s just the way it was back then” defense.
“I’m the real victim” defense.
“Others are trying to destroy my career” defense
“I thought it was mutual” defense.
“I was giving her a compliment” defense.
The excuses are many. And the level of harassment are varied, as will be the outcomes.
Speaking for other men as well as myself, I can wholeheartedly assure you that a man relieving himself in a potted plant in front of a women as Weinstein did never was “the was it was back then” as Weinstein claimed.
One of which has already been shown to be fake news.
“a Muslim beating up a Dutch boy on crutches is fake news, according to the Telegraaf and shockblog GeenStijl.
… the 16-year-old perpetrator, who was arrested, is neither a migrant or a Muslim but an ‘ordinary Dutchman’.
Garrison Keillor??!!
This one does not surprise me at all. In an interview about a decade ago he admitted that at the start of his career he was a male chauvinist pig.
The start of his career being about what, 1940?
He’s only 75…
Got an Android. The inventor…

LOL!
CNN announced that its employees will not be attending the annual White House Christmas party, and press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders is pleased. Sanders retweeted an article with the announcement with the caption, “Christmas comes early! Finally, good news from @CNN.”
And now we annoyed England. Some one just take his phone away please.

One of these days he’s going to make one of these insults to somebody in person and they are going to pop him right in the face, or maybe karate chop him in the neck.
I feel a little guilty that that makes me chuckle.
That person will be flat on the ground or shot dead before they got half way through the swing IF they even got that close even take raise their arm.
Hell it might be one of the SS guys who does it. Are there any Muslims on the POTUS detail?
“Whether it is a real video, the threat is real,” Sarah Huckabee Sanders
So the Trump administration standard is fake information is more important then facts?

The threat from ordinary Dutchmen?
To Ellynn, on that point, we agree…
Ok, ok. Now, who replaces Matt?
Temperately, Craig Melvin would be my guess. They started retooling their anchor this month so they have a few new ones and let others go, most notably Thomas Roberts. Any ones guess.
Willie Geist or Craig Melvin. Both good choices, but I’ll probably give the edge to Willie since NBC carved out that Sunday Today show for him specifically, meaning they clearly see him as some heir apparent.
Or maybe not. Geist got to right his own ticket for the Sunday show, and he a return to Morning Joe. It would have to be some interesting deals and $$ to sweeten the deal he has. Plus why not two female leads?
I’ll take yalls word, I don’t watch it. I stopped watching anything NBC after Russert died. He genuinely was a fair icon. But I’ll say the lead will go to a woman.
How does Trump become aware of these wacked out websites? Is he googling “anti-muslim videos”? Did someone forward this to him? Who would that be?
Is there anyone here who still wants to claim that Trump might not be a full fledged, in your face, card carrying racist?
Hell, B, don’t throw me a softball like that. Answer: Me!
He’s replenishing in kind between his ears what’s exiting elsewhere.
My new feed just keeps exploding today…

Your guess is as good as mine. They will probably continue doing the stupid short term crap so that they have to take it up a month or two before the election next year. They are pretty good at getting themselves into holes like that.
Colorado is already warning that it’s program will shut down next month:

MAGA!!
Nah, with this type of post he’s simply practicing the fine art of “paltering” as defined by this article:
https://lifehacker.com/how-to-detect-when-people-are-using-the-truth-to-lie-to-1820767005
By whose definition means that 90% of most political debates are lies.
By the same rules I can match every one of his articles attempting to justify guns everywhere with a counter. For example the Tampa murderer referenced by Ms. Robertson in this post legally purchased his Glock only days before he went around terrorizing a neighborhood with random shootings, killing four:
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/11/29/us/tampa-serial-killer-arrest.html
This by no means indicates that legal purchases of handguns are all bad any more than his prevaricating links prove that our lives are somehow better if everyone walks around strapped.
“Rob an Arby’s… you should be held at gunpoint.”
Actually, I was a bit disappointed that she didn’t simply run the POS over. I mean, a Dodge Charger and all. Well, holding the trash with that Good Gun was a good second option. Yall think she gets a big fat raise from Arby’s? Maybe she and the brave Waffle House waitress can become NRA Spokes Gals? We can all dream!
As I was taught to use guns I disagree that the NRA should want to make a “Spokes Gal” out of the “brave Waffle House waitress” who admitted to firing in the air in a populated area over an unarmed fleeing suspect.
You two are so predictable. It’s absolutely hysterical! I post an article that 95% of Real Americans would see as the positive use of a weapon and GaPol’s Gun Haters respond like Pavlov’s Puppies. And Senor Snowflake Pope, please continue to be a One Note Pony on this Moore thing. It’s all you got. As far as “character” is concerned, how bout the “character” of all yor Dem/Librul Brethren who keep sexually assaulting women? Why do Conyers and Franken still have jobs?
The whole justice system would be a lot simpler if the punishment for every crime is the same: Death!
MAGA!
There’s more people employed by Arby’s that in all of the coal mines in the US, so it’s got that going for it.
Dum, dum, dum…another Lib Bites the Dust…
https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/media/2017/11/29/cnn-fires-senior-producer-jake-tapper-show-inappropriate-behavior/907484001/
I hate to even ask, but… where did you get the idea that this guy is a lib?
Let’s say it’s an educated guess! Now, I’ll head to Atlanta for some work and listen intently to the radio for breaking news on the next Predatory Sleaze Bag to fall this morning.
Let’s say you made it up.
Do you consider Roy Moore a “predatory sleaze bag”? Why or why not?
A history: Before the allegations surfaced, I said Moore would win by five. After the allegations, I said I was suspicious of their timing. I also posted on numerous occasions that if they were true, he was a creep and wouldn’t win. I still believe he will not win. I’ll say again, if the allegations are true, he surely was a sleaze bag. But it’s what the folks over in AL believe, not me. He continues to categorically deny everything. And in recent days, it’s sounding like more and more may be for Moore. Election day will be interesting.
The thing is, it’s as likely as not the Trump will be the subject of breaking news.
