A 2017 Festivus For The Rest Of Us
The tradition of Festivus starts with the airing of grievances. To quote Frank Costanza: “I’ve got a lot of problems with you people, and now you’re going to hear about them.”
We are quickly approaching the close of 2017, so let’s gather around the aluminum Festivus pole and air our grievances and prepare for the feats of strength. I’ll start:
- Steve Bannon, go away.
- Conservatives, stop backing crazy, unelectable candidates that lose winnable elections.
- President Donald Trump isn’t a god or a king. Stop treating him as such.
- Talk radio, in general, is still unbearable.
- Liberals, I get that y’all are upset over Donald Trump getting elected, but it’s over. You might want to clean up shop rather than let the Clintons control the DNC. Also, see above about “unelectable” candidates.
- Dear President Trump, please stay on script and off Twitter.
- If you are over 40 and throw around the term snowflake like a blizzard to describe folks younger than you who don’t agree with your beliefs and are scared to listen others’ opinions, then you might be using the term incorrectly.
- If you’re offended by Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas, Happy Kwanzaa, Happy Hanukkah, or any other festive greeting, just accept it, smile, and move along. If you feel like you haven’t been able to say Merry Christmas between the years of 2009 and 2016, get over yourself.
Alright, there’s enough there to get you started. Air your 2017 grievances below, and keep them clean #ForTheChildren.

When answering a question stop saying “you know”. If we knew we would not have asked the question.
I’ll limit myself to four grievances or I may never stop.
In the past year I’ve been greatly disappointed by:
1–Any political message board that lets trolls operate freely.
2–BernieBots who are convinced Sanders would be president today except for DNC interference.
3–Gopers who perform based on what’s good for Party/God/Country, in that order.
4–My country for electing a reality TV star to the presidency.
Things I am sick of that I hope will change (I think 4 is a good number cause I could go on too):
That smart qualified people find their way to government and real “public” service
Science is NOT a bad word
Alternative facts gives way to what they really are…lies
That there wont be a need to use the term Orwellian nearly as much next year
(1) We agree.
(2) Because winning is paramount.
(3) A sentiment applicable to only those within the bubble.
(4) I read opinions rather than listen to them, so lack perspective.
(5) But it’s not over. The damage may take years to overcome. Some of it may be permanent.
(6) It’s sad that that and not the unparalleled, widespread, Trump-inspired assault on the principles, norms, and purpose of democratic governance is the grievance.
(7) and (8) If you feel like you haven’t been able to say Merry Christmas between the years of 2009 and 2016, you’re a snowflake. If you choose to say it when you know another phrase would be more welcome, you really don’t understand the spirit of Christmas.
The War on Christmas began long brfore Obama. Trump is just making the vast, vast majority of us feel it’s ok to say it again without a backlash froma vocal minority who does not give us the same tolerance they so vociferously demand!
…and since when have you cared what other people think (especially when it comes to your verbiage…lol)
Actually the “War on Christmas” goes back at least as far as the Puritans and likely some other groups before them. Medieval Christians had a habit of burning people at the stake for doctrinal differences like observing Christmas. Now THAT was war.
ZZzzzzz! Try finding something in the last 50 years, Will, Sheeeesh! But hey, following your ancient examples, why don’t you and the others go protest a Christopher Columbus statue!!! Lol!!!
I’m trying real hard here to not come off as a Scrooge or step on any religious toes but your ignorance knows no bounds. I actually ENJOY the Christmas season even when I have to suffer boors like yourself who protest Lowes calling them “Holiday trees” or the like.
You are touting a religion that has been around a couple of millennia stemming from at least one that goes back at least another 2 or 3. Christmas or “Christ’s Mass” date back to the 4th Century. Bringing evergreens into the house or Yule logs precedes this celebration by centuries in several different countries and has several Pagan roots. So yes we are talking ancient history about a holiday that isn’t even scriptural. Hannity and Trump don’t have a damned thing to do with it.
Well, gee, Will, you have no idea how I admire your restraint! By the way , since uou brought it up , what made Lowe’s feel they ever needed to call them “Holiday” trees un the first place? Hmmmm??… Because some “offeneded” ninny called to complain?! Where was that Snowfkake’s “tolerance ” of a phrase that well north of 70 percent of this nation’s people treasure?? Well, no more…And pardon me for saying it, but Thank God!!!! And you call ME the boor?! LMAO!
It was me. I called to complain about Lowes selling Christmas trees in the middle of Advent. Where were the rows and rows of purple and pink candles? Not a single advent wreath to be found. Christmas does not start until December 25th and ends January 6th. Yet on the second day of Christmas instead of selling turtle doves , stores are already taking down their Christmas decorations – DURING Christmas.
Anyone who resorts to entertainers for their political philosophies.
Anyone who votes for entertainers as their chosen politicians.
Dear Hilary, it’s OVAH, kaput, finis…
Those who don’t recognize that the modern holiday we now celebrate as Christmas was itself manufactured.
Those who begrudge other’s holidays or celebrations. Life is short, any excuse for a party is fine by me. Though at this stage of my life others appreciate that I now dance naked under the new moon.
I have one more…I am sick of the Christians, who make up over 70% of the population acting like they are some persecuted minority…you aren’t
Not anymore!! Lolol!!! Thanks to Trump! ReallyMAGA!!!
I think you missed the point…they never were
Whatever makes you feel better, Scott…
