Rural High-Speed Internet Service
Yesterday, President Donald Trump signed an executive order to improve high-speed internet service across rural America. Georgia’s 9th District Congressman Doug Collins. longtime advocate for improved rural internet service, had these thoughts after the signing of the order:
Once again, President Trump is making a smart, strong investment in rural America with his executive order directing resources to develop broadband infrastructure in underserved areas. For too long, communities on the wrong end of the digital divide have had to pursue educational attainment and business development with their hands tied behind their backs by copper DSL cables. I’m grateful that our president understands that innovation fuels our economy and that high-speed internet access has become a prerequisite to sustainable economic growth. I introduced the Gigabit Opportunity Act because northeast Georgians have been waiting for meaningful infrastructure investments to bring high-speed internet to rural areas, and today’s executive order helps move us closer to that goal.

I’m very supportive of government assistance, but support should be in the context of broadband as a utility subject to regulation.
Without that, it could become like the government funding roads to nowhere, except that the roads aren’t owned by the public, thereafter their will be profits to pay, and operation and maintenance are going to cost more than that of roads relative to the capital investment.
Ok, but what happened to the last administration’s broadband initiatives. I seem to remember VP Biden made a big deal about the improvement the Dem’s were going to make. So, what happened?
These are critical articles, but reading through them it doesn’t sound as bad as they are trying to make it seem.
