Morning Reads with a Discussion
So “Atlanta Monster” has taken a pretty wild turn. Thoughts?
- GSU gets $80 million for new 8,000-seat basketball arena/convocation center.
- GSU is the state’s top/only ranked basketball team.
- The latest quixotic attempt to defeat Sanford Bishop is underway!
- Methinks the mayor and city council should probably get their legislative wishlist done soon.
- Pete Marin vs Josh McKoon. (Be still my beating heart).
- GSU’s first 40-under-40 list is a TOTAL AND COMPLETE SHAM.
- GSU is the best school in Georgia for, you know, educating.
- First Lady Deal: I should lick cancer in the next few weeks.
- UGA professor writes his own obit. (And unfortunately, has to use it).
- Hartsfield-Jackson: 20 straight years at number 1!
- Boy did we dodge a bullet.

Is it just me or does “convocation” have a sort of religious overtone ?
It is secularly religious so you’re not wrong.
I thought it was merely the opposite of ‘provocation’.
It’s specific to colleges, basically for formal events, like graduation. It’s a fancy term for College Auditorium or College Arena or College Indoor Shrine to NCAA Sports
“”My bill definitely has a taxpayer benefit, but there’s also a benefit for non-English speakers, since a key to economic success is adopting the language quickly,” said GOP Sen. Joshua McKoon of Columbus”.
Thank you mommy Josh. I guess the free-market incentive to succeed just isn’t good enough in this case. Unless there is another reason too…
And if you want to learn English quickly, it would certainly help if you have the ability to drive to English education programs…
SB17 – The “Sunday Brunch Bill” (revised) originally dropped last year by Sen. Renee Unterman passed out of the Senate RI&U Committee yesterday on a 6-4 vote, much to the chagrin of Bill Cowsert (R-Nanny).
The revised version adds retail/package stores (as opposed to just restaurants) and changes the original proposed start time from 10:30a to 11:00a.
Separation of Church and State doesn’t even get lip service in the Georgia legislature. Again I point out that to the State Sunday should just be the 1st day of the week on the calendar.
The funny thing is, many churches have been serving alcohol before 11AM on Sundays for a long time.
They are Catholics, if it’s out side the norms of bread and wine. We opened the beer garden at the church Oktoberfest festival after the 9:00 mass ended when I was a child..
Pretty stellar obit by Prof. Hollander. I’m sorry for his family, friends and students. Sounds like they lost a good one.
Not good… Reports are members are okay.

Well I will make the obvious observation that this is a tragic metaphor for congressional Republican politics for the past year.
Does any one know if there is a federal bench opening in South Caralina

That’s what I’m thinking. Either way, for me, this is a bummer!
I’m hearing something about a DOJ trial position… Any clue what that would be about?
If dems get the house, he loses his rank as chairman. He doesn’t get to run oversight if that happens.
Supposedly, he turned down a judgeship. Curious as to what he’s talking about…
What with his impeccable investigative performances in Congress and everything?
Sad…

Pure trash…
