Georgia U.S. Marshal nominations
Georgia Senators Johnny Isakson and David Perdue issued the following statements on President Trump’s intention to nominate John Cary Bittick of Forsyth, Ga., as U.S. Marshal for the Middle District of Georgia and David L. Lyons of Savannah, Ga., as U.S. Marshal for the Southern District of Georgia.
Senator Isakson said:
Our U.S. Marshals provide critical protection for our citizens and support for our justice system. These two Georgians are well-qualified and excellent choices for these demanding roles. I look forward to assisting them with their Senate confirmation process.
While Senator Perdue remarked:
Georgia is home to some of the most impressive law enforcement officers in the nation. I applaud President Trump on nominating John Cary Bittick and David Lyons. They will serve our nation well and make Georgia proud.
Bittick is the sheriff of Monroe County, Ga. He has more than four decades of law enforcement experience coupled with 22 years of experience as a board member and past president of the National Sheriff’s Association.
Lyons most recently was chief of police for Garden City, Ga. He has more than four decades of law enforcement experience and served as a military police commissioned officer. Lyons was the 2016 Police Chief of the Year by the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police.
The White House has not yet chosen a nominee for the U.S. Marshal job in the Northern District of Georgia.

i’ve known chief lyons most of my life, a genuinely good man, and dedicated public servant.
I have only known him 20 years or so, but I agree he is dedicated officer of the law.
Those assessments are good enough for me.
On the negative side of the ledger… David Perdue endorses him.
