Morning Reads for Wednesday, February 27, 2018
We’re broadcasting live and on location from my cozy couch this morning in beautiful Cataula, Georgia, where, in typical southern February style, the weather has no idea what it wants to be today.
Here are a few nuggets of information that might be useful around the water cooler this morning:
- Your current Lt. Governor and gubernatorial hopeful, Casey Cagle, caused turbulence over on the twitter on Sunday.
- In more NRA/Delta related news, your current SOS and gubernatorial hopeful, Brian Kemp, fought back as well.
- Since we’re on a roll with this topic, the current State Senator from Georgia’s 29th State Senate District and SOS hopeful, Josh Mckoon, was quoted in a New York Times article about Delta and the NRA.
- U.S. News doesn’t think very highly of our state according to their new ratings list released this week.
- AG Chris Carr joined a 20-State Challenge to Affordable Care Act in Texas.
- Almost a dozen folks are sick after a suspicious letter was delivered to an administrative building at Joint Base Fort Myer-Henderson Hall in Arlington, Virginia, on Tuesday.
- Dolly Parton is one cool lady.
- And finally, because we need something else to talk about on this hump day AND we are SOOOOO close to baseball season being in full swing AND we all need useless info about the Braves tie with the Pirates.

I love Brian Kemp’s tax free holiday on July 4th. That would generate economic growth in the state, profits for local businesses, and wages for Georgians. Delta’s tax break flows to non-Georgia shareholders like Warren Buffet via his Berkshire Hathaway investment.
Delta did us all a great favor by starting the discussion why we offer tax breaks to special companies and not to all Georgia businesses.
You can love it all you want, while the rest of your statement regarding wages, growth and profits has been almost entirely debunked in most economic studies.
It’s a political gimmick, nothing more, nothing less.
Delta also has profit sharing with their employees so I think 55,000 Georgians would call you a liar
Most people I know (mainly those who moved to Georgia in the last 20 years or so from northern climates) go out of state to visit family during the July 4th weekend and spend their money there. Myself included. In the 26 of the last 31 years I have lived in Georgia, I have not spent a single July 4th in Georgia.
My wife and I recently became “empty nesters” and will be downsizing. Cagle’s circus stunt is the straw that broke the camels back for me. I’m not buying any more real estate in Georgia. We’re moving to a more progressive state and I don’t care if the door hits me on the way out.
That sounds good. Make sure that state taxes retirement savings then compare to Georgia. But as Charlie always says. Delta is waiting to take you anywhere in the world.
Here’s the thing, I don’t mind paying taxes. We live in a society. Somebody has to pay for all of this.
Good deal. I don’t mind paying them either. I just prefer to pay as littler as possible. I know the government and how good they are at pissing it away. I’d rather piss my own money away.
Well, now that I don’t live in Atlanta any more I wish that they would make DCA their national hub.
As I mentioned a few days ago, the Northwest and Midwest hubs and offices Delta got in M&A were just remodeled. Detroit has a huge indoor hanger and parts center that has room to grow. Milwaukee has a huge customer service call center and the rights to 16 more terminals that are not in use at the moment. Minneapolis has unused Northwest terminals the can open. Kansas City is looking at a new airport terminal and a remodel. Delta doesn’t have to move their whole business out of Atlanta, they can just do their expansions in other areas, shift connection flights.
Kansas City smells like poop too.
Andrew, I’ve told you to not write every post like a brief. It’s way too long. Your response should have been, “Runway is too short at DCA. Sucks for you.” Come one man. I know you like making your point, but come one.
We all have large amounts of pointless knowledge. Some of us just can’t type (in full sentences) as fast as you.
Well….bye!!
Can you take some more “ progressives “ with you? Take DAL also while you are at at.
And no. You are not gonna be missing out on a governor named Stacy.
I am liking Cagle et al more and more.
A good article by David French in the Atlantic about why he carries a gun and it’s impact on his life:
https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2018/02/gun-culture/554351/
Based on numbers it was probably hog manure you were smelling. Iowa’s all right. Flat, with lots of hogs and cows and the corn to feed them. Wish they’d get rid of their caucus.
Cross-Over Day !!!!
I love how republicans running for governor are looking like morons to the general public…please continue. The next governor is going to be named Stacy if they keep trying to out stupid each other. Damn, they might even make McKoon not seem like such a moron
In 2006, .@CaseyCagle ran against .@ralphreed I never thought I would be enabling what happened later, by voting for Mr. Cagle. I just wanted Mr. Reed to spend more time with his family.
In Democratic primary that year, Cynthia McKinney was in her last election. Mr. Cagle and Mr. Reed cost me my last chance to vote against Miss McKinney.

“I’ve been to Iowa plenty of times. Everywhere you go smells like cow manure and diesel fumes.” Where I come from people say that cow manure and diesel fumes smell like money.
The RNC will come up with the money. Their job these days is to fix all the illegalities and ethical lapses perpetrated by Team Orange Rambo.
Good Guy With a Gun…

It pig manure. They do over $4 billion in pork production a year. Pig manure smells worse the cow. They also produce the most ethanol. The corn cribs for the type of corn used for the ethanol mash smells like diesel come spring.
Trump typed “prosecutorial”? Fat chance.
Nah, “unpresidented”.
You’ll appreciate this one Ellyn: https://www.nytimes.com/2018/02/26/business/tax-cuts-share-buybacks-corporate.html indicating that signs point to the recently enacted corporate tax cuts doing relatively little to create jobs or increase workers’ wages.
“The buying back of shares is also at record levels. Almost 100 American corporations have trumpeted such plans in the past month. American companies have announced more than $178 billion in planned buybacks — the largest amount unveiled in a single quarter, according to Birinyi Associates, a market research firm.”
“But the vast majority of the billions of dollars in planned share purchases will benefit the richest 10 percent of American households, who own 84 percent of all stocks. The top 1 percent of households own about 40 percent of all stocks.”
It’s history repeating itself, as “in 2005, when a one-time tax holiday allowed companies to repatriate money on the cheap. That plan, championed by President George W. Bush, was sold as a way to get American companies to invest more in the domestic economy. Some $300 billion came back to the United States that year. But economists estimated that as much as 92 percent of it may have been paid out to companies’ shareholders — mostly in the form of buybacks.”
MAGA is establishment GOP code for duping rubes yet again.
Next up. M&A, with condensing resources and layoffs of duplicate processes and closing of ‘unnecessary’ buildings starting next year.
Serious question: Why did the deputies not respond inside of the school? I’ve heard that they were told to stand down, that they believed the shots were coming from other locations than the school. What is the story as any of you know it? I’m not seeing much at all or maybe I’ve missed it. I don’t want to bust their chops if there are legitimate reasons. I have never seen this type of reaction from LE officials before…Damn strange
Not enough information to pass judgement at this point unless you are the guy wearing the big hat (with no cattle) saying that he would have charged in unarmed. Columbine had almost the same issues. I suspect in the end it will boil down to the issue at hand; kids shouldn’t be able to acquire superior firepower.
As I predicted on Saturday on the Friday Morning Reads… Keep in mind, The family that runs Dick’s (and also Field and Steam stores) are conservatives.

I don’t see how they can refuse to sell a gun to someone under 21 where sales to those under 21 are legal.
I support increasing the age limit, but agree with you that I don’t know how they are legally able to not sell to people under 21 without a law being passed.
I’m sure Andrew can write 10,000 words on the subject to let us know.
I would say that is possible because it’s a private actor, not the government. Look at it this way, just because very risqué magazines (paper magazine, not gun stuff) are legal doesn’t mean you are entitled to buy them at Barnes and Noble. But it’s been exactly that confluence of narrative about what the 2nd Amendment means that makes the issue so tough to address.
Barnes and Nobel can choose to sell Playboy’s or not. You already have to be 18 to buy them. What Dick’s is doing is saying we are going to continue to sell guns but increase the age to buy them without government regulation telling us too. That’s apples to oranges on the B&N selling Playboy’s.
A better comparison would be choosing who you sell a sandwich to at a lunch counter based on the color or someone’s skin. Or at least that is what some 20 year old is going to say when they file a lawsuit soon.
There may well be lawsuits, but the scope of the 2nd Amendment is against government action. I guess the more perfect analogy would be if B&N refused to sell Playboy to anyone unless they were 21. A lawsuit could call it age discrimination, I suppose. And there may well be case law already, as WalMart took some guns of its shelves a while back (I will leave this to ACP). But my guess is that it’s not age discrimination because age is not a “protected class” under the Civil Rights Act (That I know of). Age discrimination has been applied to individuals over 40 in employment contexts. But again, there is this hyped-up “understanding” of the scope of the 2nd Amendment that needs clarity.
I don’t know either on legal vs illegal as that often doesn’t equate to right vs wrong in a private business/organization refusing service, cake, or fried chicken, etc. As a civil libertarian it has always been a sore point for me going all the way back to Lester Maddox and his ax handles, which was wrong and reprehensible, but not illegal. Car rental companies and hotels can refuse customers on the basis of their youth. In Georgia at least there is no problem as we don’t have any state civil rights law to violate.
Not all of us conservatives are bad. Some of us do a have a little compassion and half a brain.
I didn’t say or imply they were. I’m related to some extremely nice ones, I read and respect the views of some conservative commentators and pundits I have followed for years.
(In narrator voice… that was more for Noway benefit so he didn’t call them libturds…)
Yes, why not have the Justice Dept. lawyers question other lawyers who are administratively part of the Justice Dept.? Why not self-cannibalize?
Meanwhile in Dalton…

The “fired a gunshot’ in the story was interesting but it was Reuters, and they don’t much have to report on gunfire in the UK.
Any of you listening to the White House meeting with the president and congress over gun reform?
The break down…
Trump – National conceal carry bill passed by House, in Senate will “never pass”.
Trump on Bump stocks. “write that out … by executive order.”
Trump on taking guns away on domestic issues “I’m all for it. I think it’s terrific.”
Trump on sell age for assault gun – 21
“Sen. Chris Murphy said there is “no other issue out there…like background checks,” and yet Congress can’t get legislation around that passed.
Trump responded: “But you have a different president now. You went through a lot of presidents and you didn’t get it done, but you have a different president.”
Republican Sen. Pat Toomey told Trump his bill didn’t deal with raising the age limit from 18 to 21 to purchase certain weapons.
Trump responded: “You know why, because you’re afraid of the NRA.” ”

I was listening to it live when I asked if any of you were listening -at that point he told Toomey and Cohren to make sure they got Feinstein’s assault weapons ban proposal from 2009 included in their merged bills.
” I like taking the guns early… Take the guns first ,go through due process second” Pres. Trump
And here I thought Hilary wanted to take them…
I don’t think he means it. It was just amazing to listen too…
Remember how Trump released his income tax returns like he said he would?
Neither do I.
I heard that the RW media is calling him “Gun Grabber Trump”.
Which means they apparently actually believe what he says! Hahahaha!
Hope Hicks RESIGNED!
Are she and Rob Porter still a thing? At least they now share the same security clearance.
What else to do given this:
“Hope Hicks, the White House communications director, told House investigators on Tuesday that her work for President Trump, who has a reputation for exaggerations and outright falsehoods, had occasionally required her to tell white lies.”

I’m shocked you have yet to even mention the attempted car jacking from Monday… Following behind.
Lol! I thought I linked that yesterday!! Ellynn, can you link that for me? With my approval, of course!! You can ne Noway’s Little Sister today! I eould but I’m heading into the pharmacy!
I assume the newsfeed that Noway subscribes to focuses on successful home and business invasions only.
