Former State School Superintendent John Barge qualified this afternoon for his old job. He will face incumbent State School Superintendent Richard Woods.
Barge was elected in 2010 without support from the Republican establishment. His tenure was notable for frequently butting heads with Governor Deal. In 2012, Barge opposed Republican lawmakers’ push for charter school legislation.
Their public feud came to a head when Barge primaried Governor Deal in 2014. He came in third place with 11.15 percent to Governor Deal’s 72.15 percent.
Perhaps I’m reading too much into it, but it appears his primary challenge to Richard Woods won’t be civil. Take a look at his listed occupation.
