Longtime commentor John Vestal (aka Buzzfan) is once again raising funds to help fight childhood cancer. This marks his 11th year of working with the St. Baldrick’s Foundation. John was recognized as a Knight Commander last year for his 10th year as a participant.
Participants go beyond just raising funds, though, as they also willingly sacrifice their hair to stand in solidarity with children that are fighting the battle against cancer. John will be having his hair cut at The Harp Irish Pub in Roswell this Saturday, March 10 beginning at 3 p.m.
John:
“Year #11! Let’s do this! Last summer, I had the privilege of attending the presentation of a check from The St. Baldrick’s Foundation to the AFLAC Cancer & Blood Disorders Center of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta (CHOA) and take a tour of their clinical and patient facilities. Seeing the treatment units and hearing the stories of the long (and painful) protocols necessary to beat this insidious disease puts it all in perspective. I also got to meet Dr. Dan Wechsler, the new Director of Pediatric Oncology for Emory University and CHOA (and St Baldrick’s researcher AND shavee!). The resolve of the dedicated folks like Dr. Wechsler and the folks at AFLAC/CHOA let me know how important the mission of St. Baldrick’s truly is and makes me even more thankful for the generosity of you…the DONORS…who are the heroes of every St. Baldrick’s fundraiser! Now…for an eleventh time!…let’s come at childhood cancers LIKE A SPIDER MONKEY! THANK YOU!!”
