Johnny Isakson, chairman of the Senate Committee on Veterans Affairs, and Jon Tester, the committee’s ranking member asked the White House to submit all documents related to the accusations of misconduct from Rear Adm. Ronny Jackson (the letter is below). He was, you will recall, the nominee to be the next Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs.
However, allegations of creating a hostile work environment, overprescribing medication and “too much drinking on the job” (what is adequate drinking on the job for a physician) seem to be derailing Jackson’s nomination. There was apparently little to no vetting of Jackson from the Trump White House as well.
In a joint statement, Sens. Isakson and Tester said:
“The Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs is postponing the hearing to consider the nominee to be secretary of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs in light of new information presented to the committee. We take very seriously our constitutional duty to thoroughly and carefully vet each nominee sent to the Senate for confirmation. We will continue looking into these serious allegations and have requested additional information from the White House to enable the committee to conduct a full review.”
Either this is Trump continuing to hire “only the best” or draining the swamp. You decide–I don’t care anymore.
