Monday Morning Reads — June 25
Happy Monday, everyone! I hope you had a great weekend!
Certainly not worthy of top billing, but I’d like to remind everyone that this Clueless monologue exists.
Team Deal is lining up behind Casey Cagle.
Delta irritated me when they dropped the NRA discount, but this redeemed them in my eyes. Pitbulls are no longer allowed on flights as “emotional support” animals.
Thai police officer’s video about Georgia’s new hands-free law went viral.
South Fulton is the first city in the nation to have a criminal justice system run entirely by black women, including one of our contributors, LaDawn Jones.

SCOTUS will have orders at 9:30 this morning (from their 6/21 conference) and then opinions at 10:00. Six argued cases are outstanding….here’s a synopsis of each of those cases from Amy Howe.

I believe in no animals in the passenger section of a plane. Perhaps a special section for service animals and their owners. I do not want to sit next to a cat (even in a cage) or a dog on a 4 hour flight. (I have two dogs and a cat living at my house).
How are people with allergies managed?
Being best for business is all well and good, but it is not the goal, it is the means to a goal. The goal is improving the lives of citizens. If we lose sight of that we are wasting our time with making life better for businesses in the state:

Which comes first, the chicken or the egg?
Improve health, education , and infrastructure and the jobs will follow?
Or,
Increase jobs and healthcare, education, and infrastructure inprovement will follow?
Also HB386, passed in 2012, put a lot of small rural towns in financial hardship.
“H.B. 386, passed by the state legislature in 2012. The law replaced an annual car tax with a one-time title tax, which is paid when a car is bought. It also eliminated sales tax on energy used in manufacturing, and expanded a program that allowed the agriculture industry to avoid paying sales tax on a variety of products.”
Which makes more sense: To create a whole chicken out of thin air, or just create an embryo out of thin air? The egg obviously comes first.

It’s not either/or, you have to do both of course. But with our top business ranking and bottom quality of life rankings we are out of balance.
I’m just saying- just taking care of businesses isn’t going to automatically take care of the rest. We have to drive that improvement too.
First, they denied due process to migrants:

I am not a fan of slippery slope arguments, but when the slope is a cliff, you don’t jump off.
The moment the chicken evolved from its ancestors, it laid an egg to keep the chicken evolution going.
So it was the chicken that came first.
I wonder if he’s going to do a Harley shout out in Milwaukee Friday, like he always does…

I wonder if Trump is talk about cranberries while looking over the Foxcon site.
Narrator “3/5 of the US cranberry crop comes from Wisconsin.”
I have two Charlie’s I read and follow in the political unditty like world. This is from the Charlie who doesn’t live in Georgia. It also gave me a new word for when the whataboutism and the bridge dweller get out of hand – Jerkitude.

I am really hating the no edit button and aired with an auto correct is annoying. What is the deal Deep Dark?
Not sure what it says about me, but I understood what you meant. 😀
Kamela Harris proposing the elimination of ICE is as stupid as Stacey Abrams advocating eradication of the reliefs on Stone Mountain.
FWIW, I’m closer to former conservatives viewpoints on illegal immigration than I am mainstream Democratic view. Implement E-verify. Spend a few billion on a wall or surveillance where it/they would be most effective. No path to citizenship for adults that entered the US illegally. (But on the other hand, a path to legal status for most, and certainly a path to citizenship for DACA people.) Increase restrictions on visas that may be used to obtain US citizenship of children born here. Revisions to the general criteria used to authorize work and permanent resident status. Review or and possibly Increase restrictions on chain migration. (I wouldn’t rule out changes, but probably not much with respect to the lottery.)
So what’s my choice to mainstream Dem positions? Settle for legalizing DACA people so Trumpers can get everything else they want? That’s not quite the case, but I can’t align with any Trump policy predicated on refugees as an “infestation”. He’s disgusting and revolting. I don’t even want to align with the more genteel, the racists that don’t know they’re racist, or those that tolerate it because the Trump party benefits them. (On “This Week” Trump Foreign Security Advisor called the current circumstances a plague. Chris Christie made the excuse it’s the Justice Dept incompetence, not Trump, except that the reason things don’t work out for Trump as he had planned is that he is being thwarted by the people he hired doing the things he ordered them to do.)
People fleeing crime and abject economic conditions? Crank up the drug war and worsen the Central American crime of course. Hey, it’s not as if St. Ronnie’s War or Drugs and supporting the Contras didn’t get the ball rolling on human rights abuses and terrorism in the area or anything. Repudiate trade agreements that improve foreign economies. Naturally, because Trump can’t win unless someone else loses. Reduce foreign aid to shithole countries. The holy grail of a fiscally conservative America first smaller government!
Old timers from Peach Pundit may remember Griftdrift’s “side of the River” explanation that those you stand with say something about you and what you stand for. Having been labeled un-American, immigration legislation is a side of the river than I can only bring myself to visit infrequently in the relative anonymity of GeorgiaPol.
“We’ve earned everything we got, and if we haven’t, we deserve it, or we deserve to get it, because we’re white American conservatives. Brown people, gays, Muslims, aren’t real Americans. Plus they’ll treat us as shitty as we’ve treated them.” Good luck with that, ten percenters. It’s the side of the River where half of you have chosen to stand.

The US border with Mexico is the third most militarized border in the world…let that sink in for a moment when you think we dont have enough enforcement.
The voice of reason in an atmosphere of unreason!
What is the obsession with chickens and eggs today?
Both taste good, especially when eaten together on a biscuit.
It’s not like we need nails or any thing…

What would be hysterical is if his trade war ended the gun industry in America. They already are in bad financial shape.
Enlightening link–I’ll need to read it again when I have more time to study the information in it.
