Cagle To Land Governor Deal’s Endorsement; Kemp To Pick Up Hill’s
We are hearing rumors floating around, InsiderAdvantage is also reporting said rumors, that Governor Nathan Deal will be announcing his endorsement of Lieutenant Governor Casey Cagle as soon as Monday. In terms of endorsements, this one is a whale. Governor Deal, thus far, has stayed out of the Republican gubernatorial primary focusing on matters of state while Republican candidates vying to be his successor have engaged in an all-out slugfest.
In other endorsement news, Secretary of State Brian Kemp will finally pick up the endorsement from former gubernatorial candidate and State Senator Hunter Hill on Tuesday. I say “finally” because it appears that most of Senator Hill’s supporters migrated to the Kemp camp during the run-off, so this doesn’t appear to be all that unexpected.
There’s an on-going discussion on the effectiveness of endorsements…whether or not they truly sway voter opinion. Something to keep in mind through this week into the run-off election on July 24th: earning the endorsement of the current Governor, who is enjoying an 85% approval rating from Republicans and a 48% approval rating from Democrats, is a pretty big deal.

Cagle must be behind in polling for this to be happening.
I can’t help but think about FDR’s famous quote about Nicaraguan President Somoza: “He may be a son of a bitch, but he’s our son of a bitch.”
Some the world’s best leaders were lousy at picking their successor. After all Jack Welch picked Jeff Immlet.
