Runoffs Tomorrow – Open Thread
Given that Tom Crawford’s column appeared in many of the same papers as mine, I decided it was fitting to revise and extend my thoughts on Tom and his passing last week for print readers. He leaves a large void in a rapidly shrinking press corps. That alone is a topic that needs to be addressed.
That said, there isn’t a new column for this week. Thus, for those that wish to comment, feel free to use this post to talk about tomorrow’s runoffs, the looming general election match-ups, and anything else on your mind related to Georgia Politics and those that cover it.
I’ll have a new column ready for next week…maybe even a few days early.

I’m going out on a limb by predicting Casey Cagle wins the GOP runoff. I’m not convinced that he is behind by as much as the last poll predicted. Even if he loses it will be a close election.
I think that early voting when he was ahead in the polls will go to him. It is going to be a nail biter.
I agree. I’m not convinced that a late tweet has much impact. I could be wrong but Trump doesn’t have a great track record of endorsements in the south just ask Luther Strange and Roy Moore.
Also, the endorsement was a cookie cutter endorsement that Trump has used over and over again. Most educated voters realize that he does not know Kemp.
Brian P. Kemp gets 58.5%
I think it will be thinner, 53-54%.
Nah, Casey is about to get embarrassed.
Ol’ Noway is sticking by his original prediction: Kemp by 6.
Ummmm, Andrew…why are you even still here? Didn’t you pick up your ball and go home last night?
Yea. I mean who would trust a guy whose self imposed exile lasted at least what? 12 hours?
I had an unannounced self-imposed exile of less than 2 hours last week.
Seems like Ole NoWay was the only one predicting the Trumpster’s rear end whipping! Pretty prescient don’t you think? And is sure looks like the Trumpster was right all along about no collusion, being framed FISA abuse and he campaign was indeed spied upon yet the left has been lying about ALL OF THIS for well over a year and a half. What do they have to say about that? The guilty are the ones screaming Trump is a traitor and be sure and vote for the liberals regardless if they are radical socialists or not!! Now why would they say that other than to cover their lying ass? Andrew you might have to eat another healthy helping of crow…again! If it makes you feel any better, a stopped clock is right twice a day!
If by ‘the left’ you mean Nunes, Trey Gowdy, Donald Trump, Donald Jr, Michael Flynn, Jeff Sessions, Jared Kushner, Rudy G, Scarramucci, Spicer, Conway, and probably at least a dozen more I can’t think of right now, then yes, we agree, they have been lying for a year and a half.
All I’ve got to say is that I will never vote for an incompetent boob for governor.
That makes for a quick easy choice.
Duncan 52, Shafer 48
Same results. Reversed, though.
Here’s a letter sent out by Cagle this morning, sent to me by a friend who said only “Wow!” Food for thought:
This is Georgia’s Moment
By: Casey Cagle
https://caseycagle.com/cagle-this-is-georgias-moment/
I saw this earlier today. Seems like Cagle tried “crazy” but realized he was outgunned and now has resorted to a reasoned level headed approach. It might help if he gets pass the run off but it will have no affect in a republican primary where “crazy” trumps all.
Yeah, it got headed down the road to crazy town after the first “Git off my porch” ad and went progressively downhill. If I were Cagle, I think I’d shoot my campaign manager or whoever let him climb down in the gutter with the at-that-time underdog. Which is sad because these are actually two good people, and Georgia will be losing the service of one or the other come tomorrow night.
I love this Georgia moment. After a whole campaign season of racing to sound dumbest, we’re gonna fake like Casey was above it all the whole time.
After much thought: Belle Isle 52, Raffensperger 48. The first name on the ballot usually wins.
Raffensperger…too many letters for a southern voter. Loser.
That too!
And…it sounds “FOR RUN” like he’s an “other.”
And Belle Isle sounds like a vacation spot…
This is the only race where I’m predicting a Democrat win in November. This state is nearing purple but a candidate like Barrow can win state wide for an office like this one.
