Monday Morning Reads — August 6
Good morning, everyone! Sometimes it’s a wonderful Monday morning, and other days you feel like Ed.
Please tell me you’re following the Paul Manafort trial. It won’t contribute anything to your life in the long run, but it’s very entertaining.
Gwinnett County’s Board of Commissioners gave voters the chance to join MARTA.
Brian Kemp and Stacey Abrams are longtime rivals. They differ on policy, politics, and clearly campaigning.
Some days the #BlueWave seems legit, and other days it seems like a porta potty tipping over. Today, it seems legit.

There is one thing few people noticed about the Sarah Jeong twitout. How many of the American soldiers who fought in the Korean War were white?
It’s not a twitter war that I followed. I generally respect Andrew Sullivan (and didn’t read him on this), but he’s quite wrong if he’s saying only majorities can be racist.
I want to organize a Grocery ID Registration Drive.
.
Who’s with me!
Haha. The funny thing is someone put on twitter their old grocery ID from communist Russia and said that is what Trump must have been thinking about when he said you need an ID to buy groceries because literally you did need an ID to buy groceries in Russia at that time.
My grocery card is under a pseudonym who lives in Beverly Hills, CA. I wonder if Kroger considers me a felon. Also I wonder when the last time Donald Trump was in a grocery checkout line?
I signed up at Publix yesterday. 20% discount.
Donald Trump on Late Night with David Letterman May 1992. 8 minutes long. Some shadows of today from 26 years ago.
Thanks for the history. Many Trump comments about various things being the worst, and focus on how real estate law has been abusive to a very important American industry.
Great interview! Great year to get a divorce! Sense of humor. Yep a real terrible guy…
I just wish he was a Soviet Communist so he could give all the money to Putin. At least Putin is not a communist according to Caroline and Andrew but at least all of the communists are now in the democratic party….Just like they always have been!
The dude is funny. No snowflake! Awe naw. His divorce cost him $25 million instead of 2.5 billion! Great timing! Just like his timing to run for president against the WORST most hideous, dishonest, most unlikeable candidate in history that rigged the election and still lost!!
I admit the guy seems to have a horseshoe in his back pocket! Sure he is stupid!!
What is so sinister and foreboding about this horrible interview on Letterman? Its funny as hell and everyone including Letterman was laughing their ass off. Did anyone hear anything racist?!
Come on libs, tell me what makes you wet your bed about this too?! You guys kill me!
When my father died 5 years ago and I was helping mom clean out his table next to his chair, I found his collection of the only 6 books he owned in my life time. His favorite was the memoir by Larry Kramer. He reread it many times over the 30 some odd years he had it. The book sits in my own bookshelf now.
Dad said always said when Kramer got in the NFL Hall of Fame he was going to be there to see it with his own eyes. I like to think dad was looking down Saturday, with his arms crossed and mumbling, ‘about time…’ overseeing the event.

I remember watching the 1967 Ice Bowl (-13F on the field). My dad was a Tom Landry/Cowboys fan.
Green Bay up 17-0, then Dallas went ahead 17-14.
“Suddenly, with 4:50 left in the game the Packers were behind, 17-14.
The Packers literally and figuratively “kept their cool.” Behind the leadership of future Hall of Fame quarterback Bart Starr, they marched down field. With sixteen seconds remaining and the temperature down to eighteen below zero, the Packers found themselves about two feet away from victory. Starr called time out. The field was like a sheet of ice. The two previous running plays had gone nowhere. With no time outs left, a running play seemed totally out of the question. A completed pass surely would win it. Even an incomplete pass would at least stop the clock so the Packers could set up a field goal to tie the game and send it into overtime. After consulting with Packers coach Vince Lombardi, Starr returned to the huddle.
Starr took the snap from center Ken Bowman. Bowman and guard Jerry Kramer combined to take out Dallas tackle Jethro Pugh. With Pugh out of the way, Starr surprised everyone and dove over for the score. “We had run out of ideas,” Starr said of the play. However, Lombardi put it another way, “We gambled and we won.”

Dad was devastated.
Dad was at a bar party watching the game. He had just got engaged the week before to mom. My dad could not drive then – epileptics were not issued driver’s license. Mom was going to get him from the party about an hour after the game. Mom said he was so drunk (and happy) he wouldn’t stop talking the whole way back to his parents house. Mom was so annoyed after going out in the freezing cold and on the icy roads just so he didn’t have to walk back home in the wind that before she left she told her future mother-in-law that if he ever got that annoying and drunk over a football game again, she was going to leave him before their first season of football together even started. I never once saw my dad get drunk during a sports event.
Such a nice story. Thanks for sharing.
I used to go to Milwaukee for business on a regular basis. In the evenings, a friend who lived there and I would go out drinking, a Milwaukee pastime. We’d be out on KK or in Bayview sitting in a local place, sucking down Leinie’s and eating pickled hot dogs, just enjoying the ambience.
Eventually, almost inevitably, one of the local blowhards would reach the alcohol turning point and bluster: “Oh yeah, well I was at The Game.” Things would get quiet for a moment. And then someone else would say: “Oh yeah? Well, I know for a fact that you were right here in this nice warm bar with the rest of us.”
And then it was time for another round.
Every little bar/tavern in Wisconsin will have a some type of Lennies on tap, something they sell that’s pickled and displayed in a 1 gallon jar on a shelf behind the bar (my 2nd cousin’s tavern out side East Ladoga had a jar each of eggs, rhubarb, and string beans with horseradish slices) and a Vince era braggart. I think it’s a law…
My wife won’t let me buy these, but: https://www.wisconsinmade.com/gift-ideas/pickled-polish-sausage-combo-4515.aspx?ref=googleps&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI0JPl2uTY3AIVkrbACh0l6QH6EAkYASABEgJKJvD_BwE
Your wife is a very smart woman. My brother loves these. Take a jar of the hot while he’s ice fishing.
This same company also makes pickled herring between November and December. Fights breakout over wine sauce vs. cream sauce styles.
Not a fan of the herring or the sausage.
Pickled herring is called ‘inlagd sill’ is Sweden. Lutefisk is far more disgusting. Once in a lifetime is more then any human should endure. If given the choice of eating lutefisk or dying, I would have to talk myself out picking dying…
Then you are in the pickled herring camp… The wine sauce version is notably kosher.
Pickled herring was a staple in our Jewish home. Cream sauce is much more “appetizing”.
Herring was a mainstay in my mother’s family of German Catholic descendant. Many of my great grandmothers handwritten recipes (in German even though she was second generation American) are very similar to my co-workers Jewish family recipes. Both families originated from the same reign of Prussia.
The wife’s family are all Swedes, third generation in America but still strong toward Sweden. Every now and then, you would hear a loud explosion somewhere and one of the uncles would say: “Ahh, the lutefisk is ready”.
Does the EPA know about the Olsen Fish Company? Actually, there’s a Yiddish word that might apply here.
Chazerai
Lutefisk, I had it once. I have family in MN. Some of them like it and some of them eat it because it is tradition. I choked some of it down.
And as long as we are talking about sports, how about a shout out to Chase Elliott! Great race. Those guys were so happy. Avoided a disaster on that last pit stop too.
Glad the kid won one. He has big shoes to fill.
Iowa state fair time of year -with out 2020 candidates…? (And a side note that Georgia MIGHT be the new Iowa).

Steve Bulloch is my dark horse to take the nomination in 2020.
Another job being taken over by a robot…

Is the following:
a) Another perfectly valid reason to boycott the NFL; or
b) A breakdown in the moral fabric of America; or
c) Another disrespectful and unpatriotic display by SoB’s?
http://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl/nfls-first-male-dancers-will-hit-the-sidelines-this-season/ar-BBLzMnx?ocid=ientp
I can hear the old men clenching from here.
Well it’s going to be a little harder to get alex jones’s take on it now.
I am sure Andrew will love the new boy cheerleaders! Why not? It is probably the 49ers isn’t it?
With traumatic brain injury at high levels in pro football players and also showing up in high school and college players, I believe American football will evolve or die in 20 years,
I’m up for the UGA male dancing team taking part in the NCAA Dancing Championship in 2040. Go Dawgs!
Is this what liberals do when political correctness goes a little bit bonkers? I don’t really care, but I don’t think it will help their ratings. Do you think this is more an in your face move or is there a popular demand for male dancers at football games?
It making college football look even more attractive. Is this just another daily example of a perfectly good institution being negatively impacted by liberal politics?
What does this have to do with liberals?
What does this have to do with political correctness?
Ask the team owners why they are doing it, not us.
Why is this a negative impact to pro football?
If I knew you I think would be a little worried about you. I know it’s helpful for me to occasionally step away from the internet comment sections for a while, so I’m just sayin’. Because you are making very little sense lately.
It has everything to do with liberals.
Take a knee -liberals. Male dancers at football games–liberals. Bathroom confusion to put it nicely–liberals…Banning free speech on campus—liberals…Ridiculing religion and the religious…liberals. Taxing you death…liberals…regulating you to death…liberals…taking your guns…liberals…destroying the landmarks…liberals… coarsening of society—liberals… something for nothing attitude…liberals….dumbed down schools…more of the same…
I also saw Richard Nixon wearing one of those pink hats in honor of his affinity for “pinkos” and China.
Banning your opponents? LMFAO!! First me, who schools you with regularity. Niw you wanna ban DTM because you have no answer to common sense. What an absolute Wuss!
Typical! Limp. Pitiful. Embarrassing. Vacuous….
There have been male college cheerleaders for decades. Even UGA has male cheerleaders.
Uh Andrew. Why don’t we see how a gaggle of 12 in men’s tights works out for the military academies, the NFL and College Football okay big boy?
Lets see if they embrace them like you say! Why don’t you put some money where your mouth is? Right next the transgender bathrooms.
Don’t Ask. No Tights.
Why ever change?
These are some funny looking tights the male cheerleaders at UGA are wearing.

Ya’ll are making me have a hard time keeping my tea in my mouth and away from my keyboard. I know poor DTM with his whole conservative victim narrative is fun to poke at.
Have you seen them being the center of the show on the sidelines. Hell no. Wanna bet any amount of money no team pro or not will have 12 dancing fruitcakes in tights doing their little pink hat routine?!
I hope to hell they do! I cant wait to see it! I will laugh my ass off ! Love to see the big burly football players lusting after them!
Spare me please. You guys need help don’t you?!
Andrew, since you are an expert on the subject, what team will be leading this new charge? I defer to your expertise on another subject!
Sure proof of homophobia, racism and every other ism…Didn’t someone say you were a one trick pony. It’s so true.
If you don’t being called out for spewing radical bilge to put it nicely, you just name call or try to have it banned. It is fun to point out the absurdity of it.
You are a pretty young guy. You can’t help that.
Dont worry too much Andrew. It is not healthy.
You know, the white guilt, the country sucks and the world is going to end next week. There is hope. Many folks actually grow out of this phase in their liberal journey… unless they suffer from a severe case.
In fairness, using words like “fruitcakes” doesn’t necessarily equate to hatred. It’s more of a symptom of brain cells that haven’t learned anything new in 40 years.
Plus, it’s clear there’s no hatred when DTM says “Love to see the big burly football players lusting after them!”
Clearly, he wants to be down the middle of that action.
And there’s nothing wrong with that.
Sniv. Does your wife know of this male cheerleaders crush thing you got goin’ on?
Five whole minutes!!! Yowza!!! Lololol! I gotta ask: what happened to that there promise you made, all full of butt-hurt emotion, not to respond to my posts? Seriously, it’s the vacation from your ridiculous posts that I never got!
He who reveals it, feels it.
But I know you’ll just conceal it.
Sure Andrew, they hold up the cheerleaders for the choreography etc. And they are damn good athletes and not trying to be in your face obnoxious and you know it.
They are not the center of attention…I have not seen a dozen guys in tights prancing around but if you get into that, it is your choice and the choice of the teams.
I was trying to tell Lebron for his good not to do go down the radical snowflake road like Kaepernick if he wants to keep his popularity and not become a polarizing figure. I have no dog in the hunt. He can do whatever he wants. Its a free country. We don’t have to go to the games and watch either. And get lectured by a bunch of radical ungrateful snowflakes.
Snowflake? Do you know how much courage it takes for folks to stand up for causes they believe in when it puts their careers on the line? When it risks their family’s income?
That’s called integrity. Courage. Patriotism.
But you know you’re a Real Snowflake (trademarked) when you won’t go to a game because one player- or all the players- used their words.
Those words must have really hurt your feewings.
What really drives him crazy is the fact that millions of women marched wearing pink hats when they should have been home cooking meals and cleaning the house. It happened over 18 months ago and he is still talking about it.
Ang, conservatives don’t play the victimcard. You entire party is eaten up with it. Funny. Nice deflection.
Conservatives like to work hard play hard and be left alone. We are grateful for the country we have. That is about it.
Actually, Noway had to travel all the way to South Africa yesterday in order to validate his victimhood.
Manfort’s accountant testified today that the money Manafort got from Russia was not a loan but a payment. This perhaps explains why Manafort was working for no pay on the Trump campaign. He did not have to get paid by the campaign if he was paid by Russia. What did Manafort give the Russians in exchange for 10 million dollars is what I want to know?
Caroline, are you still wondering how Hillary got $145 million sent to the Clinton Foundation from the Russians?
I hope you are bright enough to realize that Manafort’s issue here go back more than 10 years. So if you dim bulbs want to try to pin that on Trump go ahead.
Didn’t it already come in the trial that this doesn’t have jack sh-t to do with Trump? Have you guys tried Ritalin or something?
Focus. Focus on something that makes a difference in someone’s life. You know like male cheerleaders at football games. Bathrooms for everyone. Tearing down statues and sandblasting Stone Mountain like the current democratic governor wants to do.
The Clinton Foundation released their tax returns. Trump has never released his. Trump’s charity has been charged with fraud. The Clinton Foundation is audited by charity rating services. You just can’t let go of your theories propagated by Nazis can you?
No, there’s a lot that relates to Trump. The most basic one is everyone in Washington DC knew that Manafort was dirty. So why did Trump hire him? It wasn’t a secret that he was a Putin apostle. Or maybe the reason Trump hired him was because he was a Putin apostle. Manafort was not the only Putin apostle on his campaign. Gordon comes to mind along with Michael Flynn.
Or maybe monkeys will fly out of some place.. can anyone point out a shred of evidence Trump did a damn thing? Still? Nope. Its pitiful.
Did Hillary collude with Russian spies, pay for them, collude with the FBI and Justice department to spy on Trump and to frame Trump? Yep.
Did Hillary destroy evidence, delete thousands off subpoenaed emails and mishandle classified intelligence. Obviously.
But that doesn’t concern you at all? One of you is an attorney right? So what gives?
And you still are waiting for monkees to come flying out of some place?
You can keep repeating your lies but they are never going to turn into facts. Hillary did none of those. Lying about Hillary does nothing to change what Trump has done. All you apparently are capable of doing is regugitating the lies fed to you by Hannity every night. And I’m glad to see you are actually admitting you are a Putin apostle by pushing his narratives.
It’s not even 2014. Manafort was doing all this all the way up until 2017 according to Mueller.
Its called telling the truth, being honest and challenging so many politically correct and/or far left positions.
It is fun to sit back and listen to the replies.
Apparently the truth is what you call “politically correct”. Nothing you say here is factual. Andrew has asked you numerous times about backing up what you say and you never do. You only respond with invective.
Good Lord Caroline. I have asked you a hundred different things much less Andrew and the replies from either are you are either crickets, no answer, a deflation or racist, racist.
Okay here is another question that you have yet to answer. You guys have been sniveling about Trump and collusion. Give me any evidence of any damn thing TRUMP has done. Not Manafort. You have had a year and half or longer. Go for it.
You cant even get that right. What I said was what is apparently true is what is “politically incorrect”…..not what is politically correct gobbledy gook.
And speaking of invectives…is anyone more smarmy, squirrely, arrogant and thin-skinned than Andrew?
As long as you can distinguish between telling your truth and trolling for replies.
No such thing as trolling the truth.
Also, it is Your truth, not The truth.
The Truth must incorporate more than opinion.
That is at least entertaining for a change!
You are not “challenging” anybody. You are a joke. Nobody here takes you seriously and you are probably the biggest closet case I’ve ever come across.
What in the hell are you “listening to”, anyway? This isn’t talk radio.
I was wondering the same thing in regards to closet case.
Carolina, would you consider your comment “invective?” Seems like a new insult from your side.
