More news from the Trump administration. Wages may be down 0.4% adjusted for inflation, but people are working more hours, so their spending wage is only down 0.1%. And this year’s boom times deficit will only be $800 billion. Only a couple of years until it’s a trillion. The national debt is forecast to be $22 trillion in 2020, but Trump will eliminate it if re-elected. Said so hisself.

Last I checked, about 15-20 cents of every tax dollar went to defense spending. Actually 50 cents of every discretionary dollar of spending.
That money is used to pay soldiers and buy equipment which is produced by companies with direct and indirect interests amounting in God knows how many jobs, dollars, and economic activity.
That’s just one way.
I expect you’ll weasel out by saying your loverboy raised military spending, or that money can be redirected to military spending without raising taxes. But your boy didn’t raise taxes, he raised debt instead. Which will have to paid off in the future with higher taxes. He just mortgaged the military payroll with our children’s income.
And that’s just one “sector” of the economy.
Most all government services are in some way designed to strengthen financial security for financial and employment sustainability.
Boil it down to the individual. Your life. We are a country of invididuals it has not turned into a collective utopia just yet.
Let’s say the government takes another $10,000 from you personally. Is that helping you pay for provide for your family? Is that helping you economically. If you own a business is that helping you hire another person? The answer is hell no.
Do that for 320 million or maybe 160 million paying federal taxes. Far less with kids etc..
Yes that confiscated money is used to buy stuff too but is it more efficient than you deciding what to spend your money on?
Taxes need to be paid for certain things. Does anyone here think the size of government is too darn large and one party does nothing but want to expand it further?
Taxes are a drag to economic growth. It is no different than riding your boat on Lake Lanier and tossing over a small anchor every time you raise a tax. The same thing can be said of more regulations on business and personal property. If you throw 242 anchors overboard, will it slow your boat? Of course.
There is a balance but don’t argue taxes increase economic growth. If they did just go with a 90% tax rate like some liberals support…until it affects them. Sooner or later you run out of other people’s money.

Say I pay $10,000 in taxes. What does that get me?
It gets me roads to get to my job.
It gets me employment insurance in case I lose my job for no reason of my own.
It gets me affordable healthcare so that if I get sick I won’t be so ill that I can’t work.
It gets me drinkable water, breathable air, generally disease-free food, and parks to exercise and enjoy life in, etc.
It further provides these same services to my neighbors and community, so that when one piece of the economic engine fails, it all doesn’t collapse.
It further subsidizes corporate job development, job training, education, and employment services to help me or anyone develop necessary job skills and then find jobs, all in order to boost economic growth- which occurs through a pattern of income, spending, and saving.
It may also prevent my neighbors from becoming homeless or hungry, allowing them abilities to seek and maintain employment.
Some of this benefits me directly, some indirectly. But since I can’t have a job without a functional economy, anything that goes towards maintaining a functional economy is of benefit to me and my family’s survival..

And yes, you absolutely need taxes because no one wants to live in a community with no roads, polluted rivers, poisonous air, no schools, no police, no fire protection services, no hospitals, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc.
There are several economic arguments about the rates of taxes and economic growth, the most controversial and bubble-wrapped was devised by far right economist Arthur Laffer. look up the Laffer curve. Even the ultra-conservative economists understand and acknowledge that there is a balance between taxes and growth. The only question is where is the real and true balance. There is a ton of science on this, and from my recollection, most would argue that the income taxes that are presently in New Jersey kind of approach the limits. new York City’s taxes are high, but NYC is a case in and of itself. Otherwise, taxes go to services that people DEMAND. If Demand is government services, SUPPLY is tax collections.

1) That’s a complex problem that is as much a symptom as it is a social ill. You doing anything about it besides complaining about paying taxes that go to, say, accountability court programs that assist with the problem?
2) You could easily make the point without going to Bill Cosby, who should not be held up as an exemplar on fatherly or familial issues. You can 100% be race-conscious without being racist.
That said, let’s start at the beginning of your fantasy land.
Let’s assume everybody has good home lives.
However, we should recognize that assumption is not race-conscious, in other words it’s race-ignorant, because disproportionate numbers of minority families are afflicted by problems wrought by disproportionate poverty, disproportionate incarceration, etc., which are the result of historical systemic racism. Recognizing that can be part of being “race-conscious”. So you may not be racist now, but guess what? History has been. And you can’t just go from racist history to fantasy land in one jump.
But let’s say we do.
Now we go to education. Ooops, kids in one community can’t afford new textbooks or computers so their education is worth less, and they may not be educated and trained for available jobs. Oops, the jobs they could have gotten in their local manufacturing plant no longer exist because the plant closed down because no one buys paper widgets any more. Oops, there’s an innovator and entrepreneur who invested his savings in search of the American dream, but it didn’t work out and he lost everything. Ooops, that poor soul got into a car accident and needed opioids, but they were overprescribed and now they have addiction problems.
Etc, etc, etc

I’m generally OK with all the present income tax brackets, which have arisen out of decades of ongoing political back and forth and compromise.
I take issue with the present state of capital gains, estate taxes, etc.
If I could wave a magic wand, I would change a heck of a lot about taxes, building on common sense ideology and minimizing externalities within tax burdens.
E.g. the entirety of the budget of the SEC should be paid only by those who utilize those markets regulated by the SEC, with taxes in proportion to usage. The EPA should be funded entirely by corporations that are active with regard to certain industries and products. The Dept. of Commerce, Dept. of Treasury, etc. can all be aligned as such. Call it taxes or fees, whatever. It’s alignment. Take that principle as far as possible.

I have been amazed at the enormous idiocy of our tax code over the years that forced trillions of dollars overseas. Obama did nothing to get it back. It is shown that lowering cap gains taxes leads to a ton of revenue and increased investment so it makes a ton of sense to keep them low.
So why is it NOT ONE DEMOCRAT had the stones to help the average taxpayer keep an extra dollar? Is something wrong with them? To me that is a critical question. Apparently liberal politicians consider your money THEIR money and then they buy votes with it.

What I have read and you probably know better about this kind of thing but according to some of the legal analysts the defense did not have a whole lot they could do short of putting Manafort on the stand who probably would have been destroyed in a cross examination or claiming the documents were forgeries. Manafort has no character witnesses since Russian Ogliarchs probably would not play too well with the jury.
