Georgia Democrats Release Third Attack Ad on Kemp

The Democratic Party of Georgia has released another ad targeting Republican gubernatorial candidate Brian Kemp.

The ad released Wednesday highlights ‘charges of quid pro quo in Brian Kemp’s Mishandling of Sexual Assault claims.’ The Party said in a press release that the ad is to showcase that Kemp’s handling of the massage parlor license where sexual abuse allegedly occurred has come from both sides of the aisle.

The ad references claims from State Senator Renee Unterman, a Buford Republican who has been largely criticized by her own party for her legislation to expand the size and scope of government. Unterman was an avid Cagle supporter who stumped for him on the campaign trail across Georgia during the primary and the runoff election.

Watch the ad:

The script:

A scandal. Calls for a criminal investigation. Complaints of sexual assault. Charges that they were overlooked in favor of campaign donations. And still Brian Kemp at the center of it all. Did nothing. The Journal Constitution reports these claims went quote “unheeded” by the board that Kemp oversees. And then, there’s a fundraising gala for millionaire Brian Kemp hosted by former Massage Envy owner Patrick Greco. Accusations that the fundraiser was payback for Kemp’s silence Even the Republicans called for a criminal investigation into Brian Kemp, his fundraising deals, and the real cost of Brian Kemp’s silence. When will Brian Kemp tell us the truth about this quid pro quo scheme.

The ad is the third ad targeting Kemp released by Georgia Democrats in recent weeks and the second on the massage parlor scandal. The previous ad, ‘Abuser,’ alleges Kemp turned a blind eye. The Secretary of State’s office oversees licensing, but the sanctions and punishment of license holders usually rests in the hands of the state boards.

Kemp’s two most recent campaign commercials have not mentioned Abrams.

A series of sexual harassment complaints and a campaign donation have added another twist to the Georgia Republican gubernatorial runoff.

Complaints of harassment by Massage Envy staff in Atlanta have gone unheeded by the Georgia Board of Massage Therapy, according to reports by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, and the board’s inaction is coming back to haunt the gubernatorial campaign of Secretary of State Brian Kemp.

Now, Kemp’s critics are calling for a criminal investigation after it was revealed the owner of the Massage Envy clinics at the center of the sexual harassment complaint,Patrick Greco, is also a donor to Kemp’s campaign.

“When massage therapists cross the line, state board rarely acts,” Johnny Edwards and Lois Norder, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, 05/04/2018

But the state licensing agency charged with protecting the public, the Georgia Board of Massage Therapy, did nothing after she complained. He’s now working at another spa.

Such outcomes are typical when it comes to massage therapy and sexual misconduct allegations in Georgia. Twenty-five of the 26 sexual misconduct complaints lodged with the state over the past three years resulted in zero public disciplinary action — no license revocations, no license suspensions, no therapists placed on probation, no reprimands, an investigation by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution found.

Sen. Renee Unterman, R-Buford, has written to BJay Pak, U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Georgia in Atlanta, to request a criminal investigation into the donation and the massage board’s lack of action on the sexual harassment complaints.

Unterman, who is a supporter of Cagle’s bid for governor, alleges there appears to be a “quid pro quo scheme” between the Kemp campaign and Greco.
