Georgia Democrats Release Third Attack Ad on Kemp
The Democratic Party of Georgia has released another ad targeting Republican gubernatorial candidate Brian Kemp.
The ad released Wednesday highlights ‘charges of quid pro quo in Brian Kemp’s Mishandling of Sexual Assault claims.’ The Party said in a press release that the ad is to showcase that Kemp’s handling of the massage parlor license where sexual abuse allegedly occurred has come from both sides of the aisle.
The ad references claims from State Senator Renee Unterman, a Buford Republican who has been largely criticized by her own party for her legislation to expand the size and scope of government. Unterman was an avid Cagle supporter who stumped for him on the campaign trail across Georgia during the primary and the runoff election.
Watch the ad:
The script:
A scandal. Calls for a criminal investigation. Complaints of sexual assault. Charges that they were overlooked in favor of campaign donations. And still Brian Kemp at the center of it all. Did nothing. The Journal Constitution reports these claims went quote “unheeded” by the board that Kemp oversees. And then, there’s a fundraising gala for millionaire Brian Kemp hosted by former Massage Envy owner Patrick Greco. Accusations that the fundraiser was payback for Kemp’s silence Even the Republicans called for a criminal investigation into Brian Kemp, his fundraising deals, and the real cost of Brian Kemp’s silence. When will Brian Kemp tell us the truth about this quid pro quo scheme.
The ad is the third ad targeting Kemp released by Georgia Democrats in recent weeks and the second on the massage parlor scandal. The previous ad, ‘Abuser,’ alleges Kemp turned a blind eye. The Secretary of State’s office oversees licensing, but the sanctions and punishment of license holders usually rests in the hands of the state boards.
Kemp’s two most recent campaign commercials have not mentioned Abrams.

“Kemp under fire for Massage Envy owner’s donation,” Nick Watson, Forsyth County News, 7/12/18 A series of sexual harassment complaints and a campaign donation have added another twist to the Georgia Republican gubernatorial runoff. Complaints of harassment by Massage Envy staff in Atlanta have gone unheeded by the Georgia Board of Massage Therapy, according to reports by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, and the board’s inaction is coming back to haunt the gubernatorial campaign of Secretary of State Brian Kemp. Now, Kemp’s critics are calling for a criminal investigation after it was revealed the owner of the Massage Envy clinics at the center of the sexual harassment complaint,Patrick Greco, is also a donor to Kemp’s campaign. “Kemp Donor Tangled in Scandal,” Tia Lynn Ivey, Morgan County Citizen, 7/19/18 Cagle’s campaign is alleging Greco, who held a private fundraiser for Kemp in April, bought Kemp’s silence and inaction regarding sexual abuse claims filed againstMassage Envy, a franchise business formerly-owned by Greco. |

But the state licensing agency charged with protecting the public, the Georgia Board of Massage Therapy, did nothing after she complained. He’s now working at another spa. Such outcomes are typical when it comes to massage therapy and sexual misconduct allegations in Georgia. Twenty-five of the 26 sexual misconduct complaints lodged with the state over the past three years resulted in zero public disciplinary action — no license revocations, no license suspensions, no therapists placed on probation, no reprimands, an investigation by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution found. “Kemp under fire for Massage Envy owner’s donation,” Nick Watson, Forsyth County News, 7/12/18 Complaints of harassment by Massage Envy staff in Atlanta have gone unheeded by the Georgia Board of Massage Therapy, according to reports by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, and the board’s inaction is coming back to haunt the gubernatorial campaign of Secretary of State Brian Kemp. Lately Kemp doesn’t seem to be mentioning his association with Trump.
That’s because we are in what is known as the general election. He has already won the republican nomination. It’s kind of campaign 101.
I think her comment was kind of facetiousness 101, but perhaps you skipped that class.
Umm no it wasn’t. Caroline’s comment was her typical obtuseness. Eiger was pointing that out. Obviously Just This skipped common sense class.
Yes, well, it would seem it is going to dog him.
Caroline, what candidate is stupid enough to say they loved Obama’s policies in this state? Isnt that an awwweee nnnaawwweeee?
One man’s “stupid” is another woman’s “authentic”.
Or as applied in this case, your stupid is just authentic.
Seriously, though, I prefer being truthful, and not lying to win.
But you can keep your swamp values.
Have you looked at Trump’s numbers in GA? Obviously not by your statement. There is a reason why Trump is not mentioned by Kemp.
That’s all they can do – attack, attack, attack. They have no substance, so obfuscation has to be used instead. Example: State licensing boards are administratively under the Secretary of State’s department, but they are independent regulatory boards, members appointed by the Governor (not the SoS). They oversee and regulate the members of their own business or profession across the state. Kemp nor any other Secretary of State has any control over any of them, doesn’t even have a vote on any board. He has/had no say, nada, zip. Additionally, Massage Envy is a company with franchisees in a number of states, not just Georgia.
But, as usual, Abrams and the Democrats won’t let facts get in the way of a salacious sounding whopper.
Here is the Kemp campaign’s recent ad, with a spokesperson and family unit that speaks volumes about who the man is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BGyhg6lhFGU
Compare it with the above disgusting trash based on “appears”, “accusation”, etc. of nothing that includes the state of being.
You’re right Sally, the best we can all do is to educate the populace and prevent someone as incompetent and potentially corrupt as Brian Kemp from becoming governor.
Hi Sally,
You can disagree with Stacey Abrams’ policies, but to say she has none is incorrect. Here are a few:
– Create a State Affordable Housing Trust Fund to support communities as they work towards affordable housing solutions
– Advance criminal justice reform through the elimination of cash bail, fines rather than jail time for small amounts of marijuana, and increased diversion and re-entry programs
– Prioritize safe schools, wraparound support, and child mental-health services
– Generate thousands of long-term, good-paying jobs through small business capital programs, clean energy investment, and Medicaid expansion
Sure would have been nice if she paid her taxes to support these programs. I paid mine. I know you don’t believe this, but the tax issue is bigger that you want to believe.
I think the bad optic will resonate w some, but is it really the biggest character attack available? There are obviously unending policy differences that could be used.
Oh, I believe it’s an issue.
At this point, for those who haven’t already chosen a side, perhaps it’s a battle between Abrams’ handling of her personal debt vs Kemps’ ongoing and serious incompetence.
Whatabout Kemp being in charge of a state agency responsible for exposing personal information of all Georgians to the public? Not once, but twice?
Great point Dave. That puts him in fine company doesn’t it? The FBI, CIA, almost all Federal agencies, the DNC so many corporations cant seem to stop the hacking either!
Oh don’t forget Hillary’s emails. Some people at least TRY to keep their information safe unlike the loser of the last election!
Did Kemp keep the state’s records in his own bathroom server, like our Secretary of State? So Dave, I think your concern about Kemp is pretty much BS considering your continued support of the Hildabeast!
Every foreign country on earth has her records except Hillary and our own FBI!
Noway, do you think this is worthy of an Aaaawwweee Naaaawwww? It’s close!
“Whatabout Kemp being in charge of a state agency responsible for exposing personal information of all Georgians to the public? Not once, but twice?”
That is a very good attack and if I was running a campaign against Kemp I would have hammered the issue.
According to Trump, you are stupid to pay taxes.
If those are policies, please deliver us! All fluff and no stuff, feel-good sounding things which require more tax money to be squandered by creating more bureaucracy with no end game in sight. Thanks, but no thanks.
Abrams has proven she cannot even handle her own personal finances. We sure don’t need her hands in the Georgia State treasury!
Well, at least that is approaching an adult-level comment. Almost.
Kind of sucks to be flat-out wrong on the facts, set forth below.
But to be fair, I had to verify this with research.
The differences bw me and you is that: 1) I do the research; and 2) I don’t open my mouth to make conclusions of law before I do the research.
And of course, the facts are not the politics of it- 2 different discussions.
But, for your edification, the administrative Rules of the Secretary of State:
Rule 590-1-1-.02. Description of Departments
(e) Professional Licensing Boards Division.
1. The Professional Licensing Boards Division of the Office of Secretary of State, in accordance with O.C.G.A. § 43-1-1 et seq., as amended, has been established to provide various administrative, financial and investigative functions for the professional licensing boards, under a centralized administrative structure in order to promote efficiency, coordinate policy, and increase public accountability.
2. The Secretary of State appoints a Director of the Professional Licensing Boards Division, whose duties are to:
(vi) provide for investigations and schedule the time and place for all hearings;
(vii) issue certificates upon authority of the professional licensing board concerned;
(viii) collect all fees now reqAct, O.C.G.A. § 43-20A-1 et seq., as amended.uired by law in connection with the licensing of trades and professions;
(ix) determine the expiration, renewal, and penalty dates for licenses and certificates issued by the professional licensing boards.;
**
I just streamlined it all for your ease, but it’s e(2)(vi) that gives the SoS the authority- through the division director- to conduct investigations. It’s also clear through all the other law (which I won’t post out of concerns of efficiency) that the division director must authorize, and can veto, any investigation by any licensing Board. So, the Democratic Party of GA (and Sen. Unterman, it looks like)– Not wrong on the facts. The politics? Another issue.
Also, if you’re a real nerd and this issue interests you, you can compare the above administrative rule with OCGA § 43-1-3, which outlines the same basic powers. The one glaring difference between the statute and the administrative rules— yep, the investigative powers.
The SoS writing in that power may be perfectly OK, but it certainly makes you go Hmmm…..
I just put it in plain English instead of legalese, but they both boil down to the same thing. You are misinterpreting the code provisions for where the authority rests. Read this again from your own copy/paste (bold added):
The Secretary of State appoints a Director of the Professional Licensing Boards Division, whose duties are to:
(vi) provide for investigations and schedule the time and place for all hearings;
(vii) issue certificates upon authority of the professional licensing board concerned;
(viii) collect all fees now reqAct, O.C.G.A. § 43-20A-1 et seq., as amended.uired by law in connection with the licensing of trades and professions;
(ix) determine the expiration, renewal, and penalty dates for licenses and certificates issued by the professional licensing boards.;
This gives the Director of the Professional Licensing Division full and complete authority over all Boards’ administrative activities, including conducting investigations for all the Boards. NOT the Secretary of State. It’s a little thing called delegation of power, which in this case is written into the law.
The donkeys are just braying as usual…..
Dude, you understand the SoS is the Director’s boss?
You know what a boss is?
You shouldn’t even bother to argue but feel free to be the leader of the Resistance- against facts.
Also, I suggest you stay away from legalese, and other English.
Also, speaking of staying away from English, your poor reading comprehension is also noted, bc as noted above, it appears that this issue was raised by Republicans first, over two months ago.
There you go with the personal insults again, dude. Do you understand the delegation of authority and delineations etched in law? And Dems excusing stupidity by saying “Republicans did it first” is downright hilarious.
I merely point out what is clearly observable.
If you ask sincerely, yes, I understand how the law works.
I am an experienced attorney and policy analyst and have written numerous proposed statutes and regulations, and practiced some administrative law amongst the rest of the practice. You?
And I don’t excuse stupidity- although if you think it’s bad politics, then it’s more effective to go beyond base insults or labels- perhaps more properly considering it as good or bad politics, and maybe even explain why you think the message won’t stick with any voters.
But the reason I mentioned the Republicans is because you mentioned it was a Dem thing. So if it’s “stupid” for one, then it was “stupid” for both. But apparently politicians of both parties thought it potentially effective. Not to mention a legitimate concern of substance. (I.e. Cagle and Unterman also read the law correctly and found the SoS has/had the power to investigate. “Delegation” btw is not what’s going on in this law, bc the SoS and Director are in a hierarchical relationship in the same office; so there is no “independence” between them.)
So….
Get over yourself. I don’t need to toot my own horn, unlike you. Building one’s self up by pushing others down is a very unbecoming trait. Bless your heart.
Ibid, ACP.
Kind of absurd, really.
I get asked about whether I can read the law, and I respond with my cred, and then get told I’m being mean and bragadocious?
I hate talking abt my creds, and my ability to read the law should have been apparent.
I think it’s all an absurd contortion to just never admit a weakness, or being wrong?
I don’t know, bc I give respect where it’s due, and admit weaknesses and mistakes.
Although, being the High Holy Days, I will also admit that I do not always provide the ideal commentary and responses.
But if Sally (which is a transgender screen name, btw) just said, OK, the law says what it says, there would still be plenty to discuss and debate– abt how the law is applied, the politics, etc….
No substance? Jessica Szilagyi literally created a table for you linking the substance to the script of the ad, line by line.
“Kemp’s two most recent campaign commercials have not mentioned Abrams.”
Have any Abrams commercials mentioned Kemp? (This one is from the DPG. )
.
In fact, the GOP just released a new attack ad on 9/11. That would be the more appropriate comparison.
Lol @ Eiger being the smartest conservative commenter here.
He is the tallest Midget.
Matt, I am going say that was a rare display of humor. I laughed. Good for you! There is that blind hog finally rooting up another acorn!
Be kind to you staff today okay?
We are going to start the 12- step program next week about “How to avoid the toxic liberal message”? It is part of our free mental health program for Georgians and going to roll it out nationally…
Would you and Andrew like to be proud charter members?
Says the clown who has NEVER posted anything of substance.Matt, you lack the intellectual substance to compete at this level. That’s the reason you ONLY have insults. And for the record, you are one of the shortest midgets on the brain dead leftist side. Matt, you attacking Eiger is hilarious. And you not even realizing it makes it more humorous.
How many times have I dunked in your face and made you look foolish? Many. Of course, that’s not terribly difficult is it?
Fine. Start with yourself.
I’m actually a short person and have spent my entire life listening to short jokes. They don’t bother me. Also, midget is not the preferred nomenclature anymore.
All I see is a short Hispanic man trying to take an American’s job. That why we need a wall right???
I kid, I kid.
But really. Who wants to watch soccer? 64 minutes have passed and no one has scored so I kind of wish that the little guy had started a fist fight. It would have been more fun to watch.
I think Stacey could take Kemp, as long as guns weren’t allowed.
You got that right! Superior weight advantage!
Why? So they can come here and take our jobs then go back to Mexico to bite the hand that feeds them every fours years during the world cup? No Way.
Again, I’m joking everyone. Cool your jets.
If your kids heard you saying how horrible America is all the time and that everyone you disagree with is a racist and worse, is that a good for their development? Is it good for America? Is it good for YOU and your mental health? There is hope…
We are going to start the 12- step program called “Please don’t listen to the toxic liberal message” classes next week… I think it can save lives. Don’t drink and drive. Don’t text and drive. Don’t listen to the toxic liberal message. Sign up sheet is below.
It has nothing to do with it, but you can tie it back in about the topic liberal message if you stretch it a bit.
Did you say stretch?
Didn’t Obama stretch the taxes?
And redistribute based upon racist policies?
Too easy.
Oh hell yea Obama stretched taxes and had his fingers in everyone’s wallet. I agree.
And redistribution is the core of the democratic and socialist agendas and vote buying schemes.
Hillary. Emails. Benghazi. Liberal message.
“Stretch the taxes” is something I made up, and if anything, would mean that tax dollars were stretched out to pay for more. As in good budgeting.
But you, DTM, are just lost in the mumbles of your own mind.
I don’t teach that things are horrible, I teach that life is about continuous improvement.
I don’t teach that ppl who disagree with me are racist, but I do teach that racism is real and toxic and dangerous.
It sounds like your idea of a liberal message is actually a conservative message about liberal messages. I.e. you have bought and continue to drink the Kool-Aid.
Also, ask your African-American friends if they’ve ever had a talk with their kids about what to do if they get pulled over by the cops. Ask them specifically if they teach their kids not only to follow all instructions but also how to be super careful just in case (of latent or overt racism). Or ask them specifically if they teach about racist perceptions and work ethic.
I wonder if they’d even be real with you.
Oh, I understand the message that is directed at me. And what I describe is what I personally experience….
Balance, would you like to be an instructor for the classes? You might do a better job leading those classes than I would. You seem to have some understanding of the subject. I cant wrap my head around it very well to be honest with you.
You would have first hand knowledge of dealing with these folks. You could probably calm some of them down and keep them from such self destructive actions. Many of the radicals in the socialist movement really do need help and that would help all of us, especially those of us who are recipients of their anger and actions…
It’s time for more Race References!! I’ll be back forthwith…
Seems to me that Kemp wants to lower taxes and Abrama wants to give your money to others with programs that encourages them to not get jobs. Pretty easy choice. Plus Kemp says he is coming to Dade County. That is what his wife said in the LaGrange paper. That he was coming to every county. I doubt she will come to Dade as I think there are only a dozen or so democrat voters here. But seriously the State of Georgia is doing great. Under the leadership of the republicans, the state is in great financially. Why would you want to change that?
Kemp is a bigot and a crook. Easy choice to vote for Abrams.
You got me. Your argument is so compelling I’ve decided to early vote for Abrams. Thank you.
+2 for both the eye roll and the SHM sarcastic grin you got out of me.
No problem. She also has a great platform. Check out her website. Glad to be of service.
“give your money to others with programs that encourages them to not get jobs” that is such a tired line. Almost as tired as linking every DEM candidate to Nancy Pelosi and her cabal of billionaire elites.
Lowering taxes plays well until a bridge collapses or some other infrastructure disaster happens.
There we go. The racist angle. Remember those classes are for folks recovering from the “America sucks and everyone I disagree with is a racist” screed!
Ding, ding, ding. I am simply identifying a huge market and trying to fill a need!
Kemp’s gonna win and I’d be surprised if it was closer than 55/45. He effectively played the mouth-breathing Trump voter with those ridiculous ads and the Casey recording sealed the deal.
His general election return to “normalcy” will steady the East Cobb Mom’s that would’ve otherwise been swing-able if he kept his Trump shtick up, and therefore he’s now palatable.
I think Stacey Evans would’ve kept it closer (and probably beaten Casey), but at the end of the day neither Stacey had that Beto-type crossover/rally appeal that can beat a generic suburban Dad, a la Kemp.
I honestly think that Kemp could get North of 57% Abrams is a bad candidate and hasn’t done what needs to be done to win over white suburban women.
I’m with you on both concepts. Kemp isn’t even a “good” candidate and he’ll still crack 55%+ because Abrams has zero cross-over appeal and she’s built her entire campaign on demographic shifts. (real as they may be) I mean at least Doug Jones worked the beat to rally the base and the typical non-voter that would’ve stayed home. It also helped that he was running against a pedophile and Jones could appeal to Mountain Brook voters.
For a Democrat to win statewide you’ve gotta have people be willing to sit in Atlanta traffic to get to the polls to vote for you. Abrams doesn’t pass that test.
I think it will depend on which white suburban women. There are some really motivated and anger women out their who are in the center left. They don’t like either candidate, but they dislike Trump even more. I don’t know if there are enough of these folks to make up for the rest of the white suburban women who are just not voting. As it stands now, 52-52% Kemp unless she starts to move more into meeting centrists.
Those are the women I’m talking about. Center to center left women who really want to give a smack down to Trump and they can do it by taking it out on Kemp.
IMO a lot of it is going to depend on if Kavanaugh gets put in the supreme court. Look at women to move away from Kemp if that happens because they know he will not stand up to Trump or the evangelicals.
He will get put on the court and women are smart enough to know that Kemp had nothing to do with his appointment and confirmation.
There may be a very small % of women swing voters who support Abrams because she is a woman. But I’d be surprised if it was many at all.
Nope, women are not going to vote for Kemp because they know that Kavanaugh is going to be a proponent of sending things back to the state. Therefore who is governor is gonna matter and someone who cannot stand up to the evangelicals and the neo confederates is someone they are not going to vote for.
Well, children are being murdered today because of Roe. Not some hypothetical crap about some poor woman dying cause she couldn’t murder her kid in THIS state!
And, and, and, and, and…those same stats say that many abortions are committed by minority women, resulting in the death of millions of brown babies. Some of which been caused by your well-publicized donations. Maybe your new nickname should be “Accessory?”
Anything in that menu kosher? Since you’re so devout and all?
Even though Kavanaugh believes that many decisions should be made on the state level? And yes, many have gotten complacent on this issue.
Well, look no further than Ireland. They banned abortion for decades and women finally had had enough. The last straw was the women who died because she was miscarrying and there was still a fetal heartbeat. So no abortion could be done and she died.
“Does Brian Kemp Rub You the Wrong Way???” That was the perfect lead-in to use.
But this attack ad is lame. Or is that limp?
Ghost of Anita Hill?? Last minute desperation.

If it ain’t The School Marm!!!’ Lol! You know, Snivler, sometimes people make an honest mistake and post in the wrong location. Take your blood pressure meds and relax.
My apologies to the moderators for my part in going off topic this afternoon. All will be switched to MRs moving forward.
The FBI is going to investigate. However the GOP has not been honest about Kavanaugh by hiding his records from when he worked in the Bush administration.
Andrew: How else will we be reminded that Conservative Republicans are just childish, whining, lying, hypocritical bullies?
That was what I was thinking! It’s about time for a pubic hair to show up On a Coke can!!! And wala … here it is. Democrats are so predictable. By the way FBI thought it was bullshit… You know if they thought there was anything to it they would’ve already locked him up and charged him with collusion with Trump as well.
DTM sounds like he’s been around the block a few times. His FBI sources might be as good as mine. You know Senior Level Guys!
You really cannot move away from that authoritarian mindset where people don’t deserve a trial can you?
What a little baby!
What a little baby!
It sounds like this woman said she knew him way back in high school, and only wanted to bloviate to Feinstein about some sort of gossip or accusation. The senator stated “That individual strongly requested confidentiality, declined to come forward or press the matter further, and I have honored that decision.”
She should have stopped at that, but noooo, Feinstein went on to say “I have, however, referred the matter to federal investigative authorities.”
Honor? What honor? She and the Demorats threw that old thing overboard long ago, and this unknown woman is about to be splattered throughout the national media against her will.
If someone comes forward and has knowledge that Kavanaugh is a criminal should Feinstein ignore it? That is what you seem to be saying but then apparently you think a mobster is fine for president. We will just have to wait for the facts to come out.
From high school? LMAO! More Lib Crap! Desperate!! You aint gonna Bork or Anita Hill this nominee! High School? Seriously? What did he do? Boost a jar of Stridex Medicated Pads??
We don’t know if it was something that happened in high school. There apparently were a lot of errors in that intercept article. You are the one that sounds desperate. Why are you so worried about this? I know the GOP acts like Kavanaugh is extremely defective and has a lot to hide. So i guess there is a reason to be worried.
Here’s what’s gonna happen, Carolina. Kananaugh is going to be the next Justice. And … You’re gonna like it! Awwwww Nawwwww!
Go ahead and move the discussion, Drew! We’ll follow…
So you’re going to advocate for a defective person to be put on the court? Of course you are. You support a defective president.
The problem is that this woman did NOT come forward and specifically told the fine senator that she was not doing so and spoke in confidence. Wow, you are over the top and need to go take a chill pill, take a nap.
She drives around with a Chinese spy for 20 years but we’re supposed to get upset about what Kavanaugh might have done at his prom. Okay then.
Like most of the conservative commenters on here, Brian Kemp is a clown. I noticed how he took down being a “Trump Conservative” on his campaign web site. I get moving to the center but why not own your Trump support? Didn’t the doofus support him in the primary?
The thing is, Kemp knows that Trump is a most uninspiring president. He is worse the Millard Fillmore and maybe even James Buchanan. He is a pathological liar and the very definition of what it is to be amoral.
I cannot wait until the night of Novemeber 6th. I just hope some of you twats are around as well.
Everybody is going to remember that he’s a “Trump Conservative” when it comes to voting. He said that loud and proud and there are receipts to prove it.
I’ll be here for sure. And if my side loses I’ll be right here for you to give me the loudest and full throated “Awwww Nawwww” from your side. And it will be justified. No complaints from me, either. I’ll disagree with you about Trump not being inspirational. Look at his crowds.
What do you admire about Trump? Would you want your children to act like him?
