The thing is, the GOP isn’t silent on the budget. Trump has just proposed additional tax cuts for the rich that will add hundreds of billions more to the deficit over the next few years, and after that, another $1.5 trillion to the deficit.

With the deficit, as with healthcare, the GOP says one thing when they’re not in control, and does something else when they are. What can be counted on is that GOP actions are self-centered and self-serving.
I like much of the style, but they’re too rich for me at north of $150 per shirt. What with Manafort going to jail and everything, people are going to need to take up the high fashion slack to keep trickle down Palm Beachers from going hungry.
We have to hand it to the Republicans. They came up with a long term strategy back in the 1980’s and have spent the money and time implementing that strategy.
We Democrats rarely know what we want next year and with our diversity we have a lot of different, and sometimes conflicting, inputs into our goals.

The GOP is silent on the budget because they know that if they lose the White House the Democrats will be in charge of the now massive deficit and inflation. Guess who will have to make the difficult choices and incur the anger of the citizens?
Meanwhile the rich folks will have gotten richer and just have to wait for another Republican president to continue the “good” work.
It’s been alternating cycles since the 1970’s of the rich getter richer and downturns where the rich consolidating gains. It’ll be tough because of the competing interests, but it’s time Democrats turned back what is happening. I was minding my own business reading about Bob Woodward, the GREATEST INVESTIGATIVE REPORTER IN THE HISTORY OF OUR REPUBLIC (as he will be the first to tell you), and came across this bit of genius from his book. According to The New York Times, Woodward is flabbergasted that former FBI Director James Comey released the Russian dossier, when he had the “airtight” report of 17 INTELLIGENCE AGENCIES.
Woodward writes: “It would be as if I had reported and written one of the most serious, complex stories for The Washington Post that I had ever done, and then provided an appendix of unverified allegations. Oh, by the way, here is a to-do list for further reporting and we’re publishing it.”
You will know, if you have read a much better book about the Trump hysteria, “Resistance Is Futile! How the Trump-Hating Left Lost Its Collective Mind,” that, eventually, this is what the Resistance says about every part of the Russian collusion story. Oh, that old yarn? Yeah, we hysterically oversold that one, but maybe you’d be interested in this other scandal we tried pushing a few months ago!

The Russian collusion story isn’t a story at all, but a constantly changing kaleidoscope with the same glass panes appearing, disappearing and then reappearing under the same headline: RUSSIAN COLLUSION PROVED! Each time, we’re supposed to pretend it’s an all-new “breaking news” story that hasn’t been disproved six times already.

President Trump has made 4,713 false or misleading claims! (Actually, only two: That bombing Syria was in America’s “national security interest” and “we’ve already started building the wall!”)
The allegedly “airtight” report of 17 INTELLIGENCE AGENCIES was not what anyone would call “airtight.” In fact, it was kind of the opposite of “airtight.” Scratch the part about “airtight.” It could more accurately be described as a “complete joke.”
Russian scholars scoffed at it, cyber-security experts said it was impossible to know who hacked the DNC, and intelligence veterans churlishly pointed out that the report contained not a speck of evidence. Until Trump won the election, even the media laughed at Hillary’s claim that Russia hacked the DNC to help Trump.
President Obama took the claim that Russia had hacked the DNC so seriously that he boldly told Vladimir Putin to — I quote — “cut it out.”
In lieu of evidence, the report merely asserts conclusions. It reads like a stiffly worded, bureaucratic version of Hillary’s talking points:
We assess that president-elect Donald J. Trump has said degrading things about women in the past.
We further assess that president-elect Trump will continue to develop capabilities to fat-shame women in the United States, judging from past practice and current efforts.
All three agencies agree with this judgment. CIA and FBI have high confidence in this judgment; NSA has moderate confidence.
Maybe it’s time for the Resistance to wheel out the one about Sessions meeting the Russian ambassador again.

Sure my insults at times lack decorum. We’re now dealing with metastacized cancer. Noways and downthemiddles are joyful in it. It subsumed the Republican Party in 2016, notwithstanding the local Republican establishments pretending that state and local Republicans pols aren’t complicit if not beneficiaries and active supporters. Dave. Go back and look at a few of DTM’s lists of Trump accomplishments. Cutting taxes, attempting to make trade deals more fair for our side, etc. What about those are cancerous? Are Trump’s insults over the top at times? Yes. But what about his actual policies are bad?
So now trying counts as an accomplishment? Do you get a trophy for that?

For the record, trying is important to me and it gets credit. No Child Left Behind was flawed, but Bush got credit from me for trying to measurably improve educational accomplishment for those being left behind. At the other end of his term, Bush wouldn’t tackle illegal immigration when I think it could have been addressed. Cancer had already set in. The left was complicit in it.

A tax cut adding $1.5 trillion to the debt during a very good economy, mainly benefitting the rich who admittedly pay a lot in federal taxes, is the opposite of an accomplishment. It’s damage to be mitigated or undone. The tax cut was cited as reason for the proposal to freeze federal employees pay. It will be cited as reason to cut socialist Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security. Benefits mostly to the rich. adverse affects almost wholly to workers and the poor.

The economy is humming along, as good or even a little better than during the latter Obama years. Like Trump’s wealth though, it was inherited. Another instance of being on third base and thinking it was a triple.
As a reminder, according to Trump supporters, comparable economic growth under Obama was horrible, just totally horrible. The books were cooked. But the incompetent dirtbag fixed ’em his first month in office! So he’s got that accomplishment going for him.

Dave, the only accomplishments from the Obama years that I can think of were Cash for Clunkers—and transgender bathrooms. Obamacare was and is a disaster. Giving away billions to terrorists… No pro growth policies and race baiting is not much of a legacy is it?
