- Brett Kavanaugh had a rough weekend, I’m guessing. Regardless of the truth behind the accusation of sexual assault in high school, the Supreme Court Nominee probably didn’t sleep much.
- A Boarder Patrol Agent is accused of killing 4 women, while attempting to abduct a fifth.
- Florence still plagues the Coast.
- A Georgia school has brought back “paddling” and is getting a lot of attention for the disciplinary choice.
- Someone is putting sewing needles in strawberries in Australia, officials are calling it a vicious crime.
- Amazon is investigating suspected data leaks and bribes of its employees.
- Y’all. They found a mummified dog. I don’t have anything else to say. You just have to look at it.
- A shark attack in Cap Cod, Maine left one man dead.
- Theresa May doesn’t play. “The alternative to my Brexit deal may be no deal.“

As far as this goes, Kavanaugh’s lying is the issue to me. It seems to be an established pattern.

The Braves taking Gwinnett County for a $40 million dollar ride emboldened them to exploit Tim Lee’s ego to tap Cobb County for $400 million in a secretly negotiated deal that just had to be promptly accepted. Or else what? Lee wouldn’t be hailed a hero? That was notice to the Falcons and Hawks that nine figure handouts were available for the asking.

Those were so easy and lucrative that the brother of the Hawks owner, took notice secretly negotiating a ten figure handout with Keisha Lance Bottoms that must be passed immediately, natch.

Makes perfect sense. Give a developer, who walks away after the public money is tapped out if (or perhaps better said, when) things don’t turn out as they were promoted, more than a third of the cost of the development. I laughed out loud when I read in the AJC that Bottoms showed up at a City Council meeting touting a mere $28 million for affordable housing, $2 million for schools, and $12 million for citywide economic development. That’s less than 3% ROI for one year. On only the public contribution. It’s less than 1% of $5 billion.
Not getting much attention is the fact that this is a development of a size that will require or the order of ten million a year in public services to support for 30 years. The state is for it because at least they’ll collect income taxes without having to do anything. Atlanta, not so much. Chalk up another quarter billion from other Atlanta taxpayers.

What happens after 30 years? I anticipate the City’s agreement with CIM will leave the city with expensive non-income producing 30 year old infrastructure to maintain. The place will need a good freshening up too. Time for another handout.

PS. It’s not just billion dollar companies suckering the City. Emory University cashed in in requesting annexation by Atlanta. Nine figure light rail to Emory over a byzantine route designed basically to serve Emory, is set to siphon off a large share of the Atlanta T-Splost. Another instance of taxpayers picking up the tab for a billion dollar enterprise.
That line to Emory is going to run along the edge of my back yard…literally, either below ground or above. We hashed it out several years ago, but there has been a lot of turnover around here since then, and I’m willing to bet many residents aren’t aware.

So those 65 signatures were obviously obtained a while back, and prepped ahead of time, with everyone on the Judiciary Cmmtte knowing abt the allegations. But an MSNBC reporter just said they contacted all the signatories, and now that they know the allegations against Kavanaugh, only 2 will continue to publicly support him.
There may be perhaps only one way for both stories to be true, and that was that young Kavanaugh was in fact so drunk that he had no memories of it. That of course doesn’t excuse the allegations or crimes, but my guess is that he has some memory and has just been denying for so long, as if he could separate out his past drunk actions from the rest of himself.

I imagine most student evals were like “The professor is too tough” or “the tests don’t make sense” at the worst. Were there any that were like “The professor is a big fart liar especially when she talks about her high school experience with Bret Kavanaugh”?
A friend of mine who actually is a professor at Penn State says those websites are a joke anyway. The ratings that students give a professor is never public.
What I find odd is how they tracked down 65 women, got them to sign, and had it out in public 24 hours after the allegation surfaced. They either knew it was coming or they are liars.
Apparently a Republican activist put it out to her social circle to get the 65 names. Politico is reporting that they called all 65 and got in contact with 24 of whom 22 said they had no idea they were writing the letter against an assault allegation.

We enjoy a lot of things being the worlds reserve currency. Trump is systematically ruining that by attacking allies, pulling out of the agreement with Iran that Europeans want to stay in. To do that, they will have yo bypass the US financial markets to do so. All the while he is running up the debt, which as the reserve currency doesnt matter much, but if we are not…it will be the end of times for a lot of Trump supporters, literally, and there will be no going back. Trump is dangerous in ways you just cant even imagine.
This is also one of my fears from this inept administration. As Noway and DTM tout the current short-term economic health so far under President Trump they are ignoring the overall effects of tariffs and the like. Much like they confuse weather and climate. Soybeans and other commodities were purchased in abundance in anticipation of tariffs and this did bring about a boom. I am not an economist by any stretch but we all know what generally follows booms.
It was predicted that China would become the world’s economic power at the turn of this century and this administration is doing everything they can to hasten their ascension.
The next recession could very well be crushing. Low interest rates and large deficits leave nothing to “prime the pump”. Don’t hedge, it’s a waste. It’s expensive and reduces your returns. You can’t time the market. Be long equities. You are much better off cherry picking the best dividend payers and the highest free cash flow yielders from the indexes themselves . That forces you to buy low and sell high each year which adds value AND yield. There are ETFs following those strategies that have hugely outperformed with much less risk. There’s no reason to worry if it’s a long-term money because you benefit from the declines… you have more shares and get more yield as you reinvest which helps your compounding overtime. Over time most of your returns come from reinvested dividends. No need to have much in bonds or CDs which essentially suck and that includes gold.

I’ve been thinking about whether Kavanaugh could be too drunk to remember and I just don’t believe it. According to her account, he placed his hand over her mouth to keep her quiet and his friend turned up the music so others wouldn’t hear her. Those are actions of people who know what they are doing, regardless of how drunk they are at the time.

Page; (2) all FBI reports of interviews with Bruce G. Ohr prepared in connection with the Russia investigation; and (3) all FBI reports of interviews prepared in connection with all Carter Page FISA applications.
In addition, President Donald J. Trump has directed the Department of Justice (including the FBI) to publicly release all text messages relating to the Russia investigation, without redaction, of James Comey, Andrew McCabe, Peter Strzok, Lisa Page, and Bruce Ohr.

Listen, I’m not saying that the FBI and CIA haven’t covered up things before, or conspired to keep info from Americans. But there are two competing explanations for the whole mess: Either the FBI is full of all-Democratic-biased political hacks that simply want to “destroy” Trump without any regard to the law, or that the FBI had reason to investigate Trump’s connections to Russian launderers/oligarchs/crime bosses, and that they were doing their job, to protect the country, although in disbelief that a criminal-adjacent man like Trump would be elected.
Thus, in the latter scenario, efforts to “destroy” are actually just investigative efforts to protect. Just given the foundational character of the FBI, and the impossibility of an entire gov agency being Democrats (and the FBI clearly wasn’t even), the latter is severely more plausible, although it’s seriously jolting and shocking to the think it’s true. But we can see some of that shock in texts from Page and Strzok that were already released. Let’s see what the texts show about their intent. I am guessing that it shows lots of shock that someone who the FBI had already had a dossier on- for ties to Russian mobsters- is potentially the next Pres.
And I would gamble that- if actual justice is carried out- that these maligned FBI agents are viewed as heroes.

The socialists have secretly taken over all the important jobs that aren’t very visible and are thwarting the intent of all the duly elected Republicans at every turn.

God how terrible that must feel! The coup has already happened! It might be too late to root them all out. That is why we can’t have any Mexicans or Middle Easterners or anyone from anywhere else except other dictatorships here because they are all obviously socialists. Or at least they look like socialists. Can’t be too careful.

Sorry. This was an epiphany for me. I must say it does make me feel better though, thinking that despite losing so many elections that we still won anyway (‘we’ assuming a broad concept of socialism).
