yes, it’s “officially” Fall, which means pumpkin spice everything, HalloThanksMas decorations in the stores, and SCOTUS!
The 8-and-holding October 2018 sitting officially begins next Monday, October 1, with arguments in six cases over the first three days (and four more the following week), but the Justices’ first conference is today with new orders expected Thursday. (h/t SCOTUSblog.com)
I’ve been wondering why the rush for confirmation of Kav, and listened to the explanation that they want him seated before Oct. term. Is this just a euphemism for “before the election”, or is there a case that is being heard early in the term that has broad political implications?
Nothing that I would call “major” (not that my opinion means anything), but there’s a capital punishment case (Madison v Alabama) scheduled for next Tuesday, and another (Bucklew v Precythe) scheduled for November 6.
Full list of merits cases granted (to date) for this term: from SCOTUSblog.com
I appreciate the links.
And your opinion is not meaningless.
But I was thinking the kinds of cases with broad political implications would be stuff like apportionment, campaign finance, voter ID, Executive power.
I know I’m surprised!!
Following “The Playbook ” to the letter!! Trump is just stubborn enough to stick with Kav through this one, too!
https://www.newyorker.com/news/news-desk/senate-democrats-investigate-a-new-allegation-of-sexual-misconduct-from-the-supreme-court-nominee-brett-kavanaughs-college-years-deborah-ramirez
Heck I wonder how many more come out trying to be the next Anita Hill! Should be a big parade and fun testimonies. Stay tuned America, he is your normal liberal hit job at the Supreme Court hearing. Thank Feinstein and others.
Wow, just read the details. Wonder if she can can recall the unit as well as Paula Jones did? Are you libs buying this one too?!
Wouldn’t you love to see Bill Clinton’s Supreme Court hearing if he was a conservative republican?
And listen to the unbiased, honest, truth seeking same folks just swooning with love!!
Would they have 500 folks telling the truth coming out of the woodwork or even more than that? Oh what I wish for sometimes….!
Yes, we hear your bitterness shining through.
I am laughing young lady! I come to this blog with a cup of coffee in the morning and get my DAILY LAUGH! I am not the bitter old whatever like you calling every one a racist pig, pedophile and worse. That’s you!
I come here to laugh and look at the hypocrisy on full display! I am just stunned at the replies most days.
If you don’t think its hilarious visualizing Bill Clinton getting the hose job Kavanaugh is getting from you self- righteous, biased clowns you have no sense of humor at all! And I am pretty sure you know it!
You are extremely bitter because you keep fantasizing about the past. The only people that try to relitigate the past are people who are bitter it did not turn out the way they wanted it to.
Caroline, I am awfully happy right now. The present and future look great because libs like you have been getting drilled. I hope I made that clear! Sorry if I did not.
And is someone trying to say that Stacy Abrams is going to bet the MALE VOTE? Seriously. Anyone want to lay $100 on that one?!
Yeah, the others coming out worked out well for Bill Cosby.
Well, it’s time for Ol’ Noway’s monthly lunch at Myrtles with my buds! Fried chicken, okra, field peas, green beans with fatback, and Loretta’s cole slaw!!! And a thick vanilla folder of printouts from our favorite Libs!!!! Tear inducing hilarity is sure to follow!!! After I give the blessing, of course. Will report back with details later in the day. I promise!
Well, lunch was great. Myrtle’s was great as usual. Family style… Bowls and plates clinking and clattering being passed around as were the contents of my vanilla folder! Guffaws and outright belly-laughes erupting from our big, round table! Hollis actually snorted and lost some milk through his nose! Loretta, on more than one occasion, asked us to read her, “one of them emails…” before breaking out in her familiar cackle at the contents!!! Actually, our sides were hurting more than usual! Not surprisingly, all said they couldn’t wait for early voting to open up!! The food-stained emails were rightfully gathered up as the table was cleaned and dumped into the trash. One of my buds wistfully said we should “really do this ever’ couple of weeks!”
This one’s for Drew. How soon after confirmation do you think is proper before Kav sues these women for defamation? Feinstein, too. Since she didn’t say her crap from The Well. Ooooooops! Big, big oversite there. And next. How does somebody set up a GoFundMe page? You know, to help with those legal fees? No rush. When you can.
So, not the world of politics, but Drake (probly an unfamiliar name to those who still tune in to the Oldies or AM Radio), is in fact suing a woman, who is accusing him of assault, for defamation. I think if you are truly innocent, this would be the kind of move you make. It could also be a way to intimidate the accuser, and leverage your power and money to coerce silence, but an honest accuser with a little bit of willpower and desire could survive the legal battle. So, in this scenario, where the Plaintiff has the burden to show the accuser was in willful disregard of the truth, I may be more inclined to believe the Plaintiff– but here it is also the accused that’s saying let there be an investigation, let’s get the facts straight. And in every scenario, investigation is justified.
I’m sure he’ll sue them as soon as Trump sues his 19 accusers which he promised to do but hasn’t. So in other words never.
Hey Noway, here’s Kav’s letter to the Committee today. He is standing strong in this s***storm of Dem/communist hysterical accusations, doing anything they can to create chaos in our federal government and the halls of the US Capitol.
https://thehill.com/homenews/senate/408116-kavanaugh-i-will-not-be-intimidated-into-withdrawing?userid=338526
Noway, what times is y’all going to Mrytle’s? Save me a seat!
Wanna take a bet on how many mo’ come out of the woodwork today? I figure 2-mo’, like Richard Pryor used to say!
Good question, there, DTM. You know you never know how many you’re gonna get “when you drag a dollar bill through a trailer park…” Wonder where Serpent Head is these days?
Hey did anyone see all of those rich, white, racist GA crackers cheering on the black guy at East Lake yesterday? What a great event, sight and story. And it had nothing to do with race.
According to the left if you disagree with them you are a racist, right? I sure was cheering! Just a little empirical evidence…
Could it be that the left is lying to you…again?
“Nothing to do with race.”
Just when I thought you were being a little more race-conscious. If you don’t think part of the popular appeal of Tiger Woods, and a critical part of his story, has anything to do with race, that’s just ignorant. It is certainly just a piece of his story, and his race may not be important to you. But it’s not about you, as you usually assume.
It’s important to many fans.
I will keep explaining the difference between being “racist” and “race-conscious” or “race-ignorant” as long as ncssry.
Listen I know the guy is black with a mix of Asian too. Like most of us are. We are all mutts and African American if you go back a few generations. Get over it.
This is a great story period. Not with just a black, Asian angle. It is FAR BIGGER THAN THAT. Thank God it is!
I am not making it anything about me. You can keep pigeon holing folks all you want.
This is about perseverance and redemption. Much bigger than race. Its about excellence period. No color involved in greatness here.
And didn’t MLK want folks not to judge them by skin color but on there character? Uh 50 years ago?! And you want to focus on race here? Not me.
I am not the one stuck in the past.
Forgetting the past seems to come easy for you when it involves mistreating women.
You do you, man.
Of course content of character transcends race.
But you can both “judge” a person on their character, and recognize their historical and cultural roots at the same time.
And while you may not need an African-American role model, it is beneficial(and certainly not harmful) to recognize that others benefit from one.
The whole point is not to downplay race, or pretend it isn’t important, even if there are other more important things going on.
When’s recess over?
That Brexit link is about Labour and they’ve pretty much left the wrangling with EU to the Tories who are on the verge of embracing chaos and saying screw it, we don’t need any deal. The hard-Brexit people want to break clean from the EU and at the same time dictate the terms of new GB/EU agreements and that’s not going to happen. The alternative looks more and more like a disaster where supplies of essentials like food, fuel, medicine dry up, planes can’t land, entry ports are clogged, workers leave, and smuggling with NI becomes routine.
The real interest is in the Tory conference, next month I think, where the battle will be between supporters of May, fewer and less enthusiastic by the day, and Boris Johnson, who is Trump with less money and poorer judgement.
12:15 p.m. Friday, September 21, 2018
“At 9 a.m. on July 19, Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp sat in his lawyer’s office in Carrollton. In just five days, the state’s Republicans would choose either Kemp or Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle as their candidate for governor. The race was widely viewed as a toss-up. But Kemp would be stuck in Carrollton for the next two hours and 27 minutes, trying to explain, under oath, why he shouldn’t have to repay a $500,000 loan.
By the time his deposition concluded, Kemp had answered “I don’t recall,” “I don’t remember,” “I don’t know,” or some variation at least 91 times.
“To the best of my knowledge,” Kemp replied to one question, “I don’t recall that.”
The deposition, not previously reported, underscored the political and financial perils Kemp faces from a lawsuit over a loan he personally guaranteed for an agricultural business in which he invested.
Kemp has campaigned for governor as much on his business experience as on his record in public office. So a court case involving a delinquent loan could undermine his attacks on Democrat Stacey Abrams for debts that include more than $50,000 in back taxes.
The monetary consequences could be even more dire for Kemp, records obtained by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution show. Kemp has promised to cover about $10 million in other loans for the now-struggling agricultural business — meaning that if the company defaults, he could be forced to make good on debts that far exceed his net worth of $5.2 million…”
https://www.myajc.com/news/state–regional-govt–politics/for-brian-kemp-suit-over-bad-loan-reveals-political-financial-perils/FGeAr04V2A0tphsBVMSObI/
That’s Kemp for you. Make promises, then duck all responsibility when it becomes time to pay the piper.
Plus he probably will have to get money from somewhere to pay it off. If he’s governnor I wonder how he will get almost 6 million dollars? He will sell his soul.
Maybe one of the Russian ogliarchs will wire him the money for his part in helping them w/r/t to the voting problems in GA.
Maybe if he changed the name of the company to Trump Agriculture, Georgia Republicans would each send him $100 to save his derriere.
It’s just the Trump model of doing business, which has already been endorsed by voters. You make a contract based upon your word, then after you get what you want, you breach the contract, and abuse the legal system to avoid paying the folks who worked hard for you.
Saves money every time.
This GIF is funny. https://twitter.com/GeorgiaDemocrat/status/1043987969852538880 Even though personally I don’t believe we need a liberal in there. And we especially don’t need somebody that wants to give Hope Scholarship money to illegal imigrants.
Uh oh, looks like Rosenstein just resigned or is being fired. Supposedly he resigned to Kelly…either way…I wonder why?
It this just another straight- shooting FBI guy that just wants to spend more time with his family? Hardly.
I guess wearing the wire to try and frame Trump and use the 25th amendment was not a good idea after all. They had gotten away with everything else for so long. Why not this too?
Oh be sure to try and watch the press spin this into something negative about Trump not Rosenstein.
Rosenstein. Jail. Sedition.
Do we pay to finish the reactors, or do we pay to give the feds their money back…?
https://www.axios.com/geogia-vogtle-nuclear-power-plant-204a84f9-be59-42d4-9d44-ad5f7c7e467d.html
Finish. Good question.
The problem with that question is we still don’t know how much it will cost to finish the reactors. As I commented a few days ago, if it’s a good deal to finish them now for another $15B, it’ll still be a good deal to finish them for $13B after another 4$B has been spent on them.
Dang Noway, you were right AGAIN! We aint even had lunch at Myrtle’s yet! We were predicting Two-Mo!
I will see your Two -mo Andrew and raise you Two-mo! I bet we can get that by dinner time.
Once this many libs come out and you have the safety in numbers, I bet the libs can trot out a dirty dozen.
Folks, does this strike you as a little smelly or just business as usual for a liberal Supreme Court fiasco by the radicals.
Ang, my number rising to 6. How many do you think?
I am going to hedge as this story progresses and say maybe Trump keeps Rosenstein and tells him to wrap this crap up. Sounds like Rosenstein just thinks he is getting fired…he has no credibility either way. I hope he stays on to keep the libs from whining even more!
Surprise!! Your medical bill is more then you thought it would be, and congress is not happy over this.
https://www.axios.com/surprise-medical-bills-could-be-campaign-issue-c50d82ac-b5c6-4269-b0d2-1d420bd5b6e2.html
Unhappy at least until 07 Nov, that is.
I thought Obamacare solved it all. Awweee NNNaaawww…now what?
If Mr DTM actually read the letter (and hit the reply when making comments so it goes to the right spot), he would note the issue is about the cost difference in non-network claims in emergency or surprise medical issue billing. (which is not an item addressed in the ADA). Basically, if Mr. DTM is out golfing and hit by a ball in the head by a mean democrat with a wicked hook shot, and he is carted off to the only hospital in the area which is a non-network emergency room for his coverage, and forced to stay in there over night, he’s going to get charged a rate that’s been raised more then needed.
Fix it. Please Jesus. Start over. The costs are absurd. If you know how to fix it Ellyn, please do. We were lied to and told that Obamacare was the end all. No, it made it worse.
Ellyn, how many insurance companies are in the Obamacare pools in GA right now?
Why is that? No docs want to take it, premiums skyrocketed, deductibles did too, you were forced to buy crappy insurance that you cant afford and cant use.
Does that sound like a success to anyone?
Why are you asking me questions that have nothing to do with a bipartisan bill on emergency care regulations for private insurance companies that I posted?
As I have stated – I’m not answering ‘Whatabout’ questions, and you don’t care about unless a person’s answer 100% agrees with your Trumptopian world view.
If your in southeast Georgia your Level 1 traumas are Savannah, Augusta, Jacksonville, and Macon. Savannah also covers 6 counties in South Carolina.
Newsflash…Andrew said the Obamacare wasn’t perfect! First thing I’ve agreed with maybe ever.
Thanks little buddy!
If Rosenstein is fired or resigns, my prediction- assuming the Constitutionality of it- is that Mick Mulvaney gets appointed in his place. He gets assigned wherever, and is one of the few remaining in Trump’s Circle of Trust.
My understanding is that if Trump fires Rosenstein he’s not going to be easily replaced.
Your understanding would be wrong. They wouldn’t fire him unless they had the person to replace him already lined up. It will probably be Noel Francisco. He’s the current Solicitor General.
Francisco apparently has issues regarding EO 13770, which bars Francisco from participating in the Mueller investigation due to Jones Day’s representation of the Tump campaign. So we shall see how this all plays out.
You give the President too much credit. I think it will be Rudy Giuliani.
It will be hard to find another one as crooked. Most of the others have been fired. Oh, what evidence do we have of Trump collusion? Nothing.
How much collusion have we seen with the FBI or others?! Well another is about to bite the dust. Does this bother any liberal? I doubt it.
LMAO! That’s nuthin’. I’m waiting for the next accuser to be gay ans say Kav propositioned him in the men’s room!!
Latest. I hear ole Farmer Brown says that Kav and his frat brothers had their way with his sheep. Now that is almost as bad as a Coke can….
I can just see the libs bringing a poor sheep to testify! How do you make a sheep look sad and believable at the same time?
Will some of the liberal sheep on this blog help interpret for us? Baaa, baaaa
Keeping it classy in GOP style.
No the next one is going to say Kav and Bill Cosby tried to give her some pudding while watching Saturday Morning Cartoons.
Amen chef. That pudding had date rape drugs in it. Might need to go to another example other than Cosby.
You can use Trump advisor Delgado if you want another example.
There might be 5 now. Montgomery County has had someone file a complaint it seems.
https://mont.thesentinel.com/2018/09/24/supreme-court-nominee-kavanaugh-faces-more-allegations/
I had 6 by the end of the day. Wait how many FBI investigations has Cav been through?
Why have those thorough sleuths not found anything before? But we need another one or 6 investigations now? BS! Sorry.
There’s always new information and frankly since the GOP is hiding his records they may have known about his problems and just hid the records. All of his records should be released to the public.
Montgomery CO. sheriff has stated they have NOT received any complaints as of 1:00 m today.
So now after thinking Rosenstein might be fired he just went to a meeting and still has his job. I wonder who fed that Rosenstein is gonna resign story to the press? They should out their source and never use them again. And I guess this story was an attempt by Trump or someone in his circle from all of Kavanaugh’s problems.
“A source told Reuters that Rosenstein had not been fired but had spent the weekend contemplating whether he should resign after a New York Times report said in 2017 he had suggested secretly recording President Donald Trump…
The Axios news website cited an unidentified source with knowledge of the matter as saying Rosenstein, the No. 2 Justice Department official and a frequent target of Trump’s anger, had verbally resigned to White House Chief of Staff John Kelly. Another Axios source said Rosenstein is “expecting to be fired” so he plans to step down. NBC News reported Rosenstein said he would not resign and the White House would have to fire him.”
https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-trump-rosenstein/u-s-deputy-attorney-general-rosenstein-resigns-axios-idUSKCN1M41RY
It sounds like multiple sources.
Caroline the same folks telling you that Stacy Abrams was going to win, that Hillary was going to win, that Trump is unpopular, that Kavanaugh raped anyone, that Abrams will win the male vote, that socialism is great, that everyone you disagree with is a racist are the same guys that told us both the story.
I fell for it for a while but figure the NY TIMES had an interior motive and that is most likely right.
Let Rosengoober keep his job as a biased hack, don’t fire him so nimrods like you can scream collusion and go ahead and get Kav on the court and let the libs sit there and make up more garbage. Sounds like a plan to me.
Dude, regarding Stacey Abrams I’m looking at raw polling not reading predictions. Good lord if she wins you’re going to have the meltdown of all meltdowns.
No Caroline. We saw that meltdown with Hillary choking didn’t we? I don’t think GA is ready for a leftist. Do you?
Aren’t we seeing an embarrassing meltdown of the libs literally trying to frame Kavanaugh today? Is there ANY EVIDENCE whatsoever? Or just unsubstantiated allegations that no one can prove at all.
All done at the LAST MINUTE FOR POLITICAL POINTs. Not when there was any time for investigations.
He was investigated by the FBI 6 freaking times…Already…not a darn thing.
How would you like your son, husband or father to be put through these allegations. And no proof. Someone with an ax to grind. What would be saying here?
Actually if any of liberals here have sons, what are you telling them? That every male is a predator? According to the radical feminists it sure seems that way….oh unless they are liberal.
I have two boys and I tell them to behave themselves. If there are situations going on at a party somewhere or with some other people they need to get in the car and leave. I tell them to treat girls like human beings with real feelings not toys to be played with. So far my boys have managed pretty much just fine in this world.
Caroline, the libs would have no sources if they fired the ones spreading lies.
I find that comment funny from someone who never uses facts to back up any of his claims. You have been asked by a number of posters many, many time to back up your claims and yet you never do.
What have I been wrong on? Maybe I can address that.
My first thought too… conveyed better then I could.
https://twitter.com/JoyceWhiteVance/status/1044268546258358272
According to Aunt Lydia Sanders the whole discussion has been moved to Thursday. Hmm, I wonder what is going on Thursday?
Tariffs are kicking in.
One supplier says a new price list is coming out Oct. 1 instead of waiting until Jan. Unknown increase amount.
Another supplier is adding a 10% fee to all orders to cover the tariffs.
A couple of others are saying ‘wait and see’ for now.
The bright side is that with China placing tariffs on Georgia pecans, your pecan pie may be cheaper this fall! Aren’t you happy?
I’m trying to see the end game here, what does Trump expect will happen in the long run? Cheaper China, Canadian, EU goods? More sales to China, Canada, EU of US goods? Better trade agreements?
It seems like we will have to suffer higher prices on quite a few products and goods for several years.
I think talk is cheaper in this case.
I think I get the idea, I just think this is the wrong way to do it.
Presumably he thinks they will suffer so much by selling less stuff here that they will come begging to him to renegotiate everything to our favor. I doubt that would be the case and even if it were, like you said, it would likely be years of higher prices to get there.
,
For all I know Trump is even right in thinking that there are unfair imbalances right now. But we already have mechanisms set up to deal with that. It’s just that trump only knows one thing: bully. And I don’t think he accepts or even cares about the complexity of these things, like not hindering emerging nations prosperity so they can become stable, good capitalist neighbors. For example, if we actually help Mexico’s economy and security situations, it would save us the cost of a stupid wall, among other things. It would be an investment.
But bullies don’t do that sort of thing.
edit to add: Not to mention that these unilateral tariffs are probably illegal since they are so obviously not about national security.
Yeah, I have experienced the same thing. Even worse are stories from my husband who is in sales of the fact that companies can’t even get raw materials because of Trump’s attacks on Canada and Mexico.
Here comes fall!! Finally.

Maybe fall in the air has me giddy, but I’m not so political today. Try this on for a different thought. Looks like “Brave New World” has arrived!

I support your non-political engagement!
Why the Left is Consumed With Hate—fabulous article in the Wall St. Journal Today…I just read this. I think this is nail on the head. Curious what the liberals on the blog think.

Shelby Steele is black so no need to say he is some lily- white old fart. Another group the left hates now…
