Other than the pending Kavanaugh vote, this feels like a slow news day. Almost… normal. It’s been so long it almost feels like a holiday.
Trump and tax fraud has gotten swallowed up in the news of Kavanaugh. GOP puts Kavanaugh on the court but the parade of witnesses showing him to be a liar continue unabated.
We welcome the liberal Fauxcahontas and any others to Georgia to campaign for Abrams. Isn’t Abrams stumping for votes in San Fran today?
Is that the woman who claims to be Native American?
To my memory, she claims that some relatively distant ancestor(s) were native American (I do not know which tribe(s)). Like at least a few generations back. But part of her heritage nonetheless.
But hey, there are still plenty of folks who believe Barack Obama was born in Kenya. Picking on people’s heritage plays well with Trumplings.
Trump’s State Department will no longer provide visas to same-sex domestic partners of UN employees unless they are married. Tough luck for them only 12% of UN member states allow same-sex marriage.
.
Pointlessly malicious, a Republican principal you can count on. Karen Handel is looking forward to sharing the good news with Log Cabin Republicans.
Did y’all get the emergency presidential alert yesterday? I didn’t and gosh darn it, was I disappointed. I since found out the reason may be that my phone is not WEA-compatible, yet another gap in my electronic arsenal for the 21st century, so no ‘geographically-targeted, text-like messages alerting of imminent threats to safety in area’ until I upgrade.
That Military Times article doesn’t call troops ‘fat and lazy’ but ‘fat and sleep-deprived’. I’d like to see the military address both problems.

Surprised there’s not a Cox on there.
Cox is Jim Kennedy’s middle name. Same fortune.
As I told one of our more vocal and less politically savvy far left leaning posters about 4 weeks ago, if you press on getting rid of Kavanaugh, you could make things worse in November or get a more conservative nominee… I give you Exhibit A.
https://www.axios.com/2018-midterm-elections-brett-kavanaugh-republicans-0cd3ce73-960f-418d-8cdd-5cb11db2b06a.html
Before the start of the hearings, the midterms were aimed at stopping the Trump train. The Never Trumper conservatives could get behind that in most cases. What folks seem to forget, and I reminded a few of them here, Kavannaugh was going to get voted in because conservatives care more about a conservative court then which republican is President to give it to them. Democrats tried to stop what conservatives (even the Trump haters) wanted and now the midterm focus is stopping democrats from talking away their conservative court.
Sadly the status quo of not standing up for an abused women unless she has credible proof beyond every shadow of ever doubt while living her life as a nun remains. Our system of law is based on the idea that it is better that guilty men go free then one innocent man be convicted. In general this ideal stands true (unless your last name is Clinton and you are running for president, then you are totally guilty). The small number of abusers and predators know and relay on this. They use the outrage of decent men as cover for their acts. Until men are willing to believe a woman without proof, she will never receive justice. Women know this. That’s why they seldom say anything. It’s just their word. It’s just their truth. And it’s all they have. Telling it and not being believed takes that away and it because her ‘story’, her ‘accusation’, and it ends up making every word she will ever say again questioned. Every word. It’s like being abused and attacked twice.
Tell me how to solve that issue peanut gallery.
I don’t know how to solve that issue, but:
“Freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor; it must be demanded by the oppressed.”
Martin Luther King, Jr.
So it’s going to take brave women to keep coming forward and demanding justice.
Otherwise, I don’t think the Dems have anything to lose by fighting BK. If BK gets approved then presumably that GOP enthusiasm will return to where it was previously. If he doesn’t get approved it will only be because the Dems have fought hard against him and given themselves the opportunity to fight again another day.
They can lose a Senate that’s under 60 GOP votes. Dems keep fighting both Never Trumpers and the base they lose 8 out of 10 the seats in ND, MT, MO,WI, IN, MI, WV, FL, NJ & OH and no pick ups in AZ, TX, or TN. – no filibusters for 2 years. Basically any appointee will get a free pass through the senate.
Even if Kavanaugh is voted in (and he will be), about 10 days before the election, ads will start poping up with a sound bit of Mitch on the floor of the Senate” dems delaying federal bench nominees”, with a voice over as pictures of every liberal trigger senator is shown “The Liberal Democrat (insert dem name running in that senate seat) wants to stop any conservative nominees to the federal bench. They want to stop the conservative picks to the empty DOJ appointments. They tried to do so with Kavannah, they will try it again unless you vote from Conservitive (insert GOP candidate name). Don’t let the liberals take away our judicial system.”
The name Trump will never be used. The ad will make sure Dems will be tarred by their own hubris. And it will work.
Interesting take.
It’s not like the Dems can’t/won’t fight back:
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/features/2018-10-04/a-former-obama-operative-built-a-new-anti-republican-attack-machine
If a hack like Kavanaugh is the hill the GOP is willing to die on then so be it. You’re forgetting that literally nobody outside of evangelicals wants Kavanaugh on the court. Until we start standing up to evangelicals they are going to take every freedom from Americans and give it to themselves only.
Thinking about Ellynn’s take even more. Kavanaugh’s horrid treatmemt has effectively nationalized the midterms. Having sprung this at the last minute is infuriating republicans. Trump can imply that this wasdone to his supporters, not just Kavanaugh. He will then ask what his supporters plan to do about it? Republican turnout might increase significantly.
I don’t disagree with any of this, but I am doubtful that is how it will go.
If he is voted down, GOP will go even harder on getting as mainly republicans into of office so they will put up a super conservative and they will not need the pro choice GOP votes. Just needs 55-56 to make that happen.
In his other judge position did he ever not apply the law in an even handed manner? Any accusations of that?
Well he was all for making Bill Clinton testify, but by the time GWB came around he was all about executive privilege.
Then, he was for Roe v Wade as settled law, then not so much.
He’s also been on both sides of the fence on religious liberty.
Other than those ambiguities he’s mostly just been wrong. 🙂
The filibuster for judicial appointments was already eliminated. So I don’t see your point there.
“…any appointee”, also any bill about anything.
NPR agreed with the tidal turn.
The GOP was always going to turn out. They always do. We just have to swamp them in numbers.
I disagree. Kavanaugh will be a huge focus. You can see how crooked the socialist democratic party is. Get rid of them. Thanks for taking the focus off the other dishonest, fake Russian investigation.
The focus should be the economy (stupid…according to Clinton!) If it is, will democrats get a single vote? If so, why?
You don’t think the clip of Kavanaugh attacking a female senator isn’t going to run over and over again? You don’t think him stating that he will deny justice to half of America is not going to play on a rotating clip for the elections? You don’t think that putting someone on the court that has 70% of the country against him is going to galvanize people against the GOP?
The article abt the alleged assault by the transgender toddler grabbed my attention even more after I saw it was reported in a neighborhood where I used to live and play in Decatur. So I went to the local Facebook group and local media and saw that the allegation surfaced months ago, and was investigated by the school, police, and DFCS. Each investigation found no factual basis for the allegation, even finding that the alleged assaulter wasn’t even transgender. The kid was 5-yrs. old, just for starters.
However, the complaints have been led by a local attorney who is affiliated with a group that is specifically against transgender bathroom policies, which group is also considered a hate group by the SPLC. Say what you will about the above non-profits, but I found it eminently more disgusting that anyone would take advantage of two 5-yr.-olds’ innocence in order to make a political point.

Amazing. Thanks for looking into that.
Balance, why are you surprised.
Look at what the democrats did in the Supreme Court hearings. And every other hearing for 25 or more years. Evidence made no difference. Do you see how dangerous that becomes?
Now you get one of the most politicized cities in the state stewing over a controversial policy and guess what, kids will become the pawns…I am not surprised at all. Don’t have a Trump yard sign in that city.
Sorry, the City and its neighborhoods are not monolithic, and have a good chunk of Republicans who are not shunned- or vandalized- at all- for their political positions.
For someone who is complaining abt folks making statements without evidence, you’re sure comfortable making statements without any evidence.

If this movie doesn’t win the Oscar for hair and make up some thing is seriously wrong in the world. Just watch the first 5 second with Sam Rockwell and then skip to 1:13 for Steve Carrell and Christian Bale…
More Democrats read the Trumpster’s tweets than Republicans. https://pac.morningconsultintelligence.com/
They have to get some truth somewhere. Why does Trump tweet? So the Press will not lie and filter what he says. There is hope. More libs are at least getting direct information not lies from the media!
The best note in there was 6% trust their politicians. I would wonder how many trust their liberal politicians after this fiasco of a Supreme Court hearing? I would say 1%. And those nitwits are often on this blog!
You mean like the 1% racists in the GOP? That percentage understates the elected Republican officials caught on audio making racists, let alone what’s said but not recorded by officials, and certainly excludes the thoughts of offiicials.
