i too am ready for election day, but the way several of these races are going, there is a really good chance for bonus elections for a few of them
When you said “more claims of voter suppression” I thought it was more, in addition to the story of the folks and the bus. Thank God it’s only the same voter suppression we were discussing.

When you are caught trying to restrict a certain group from voting, they become that much more determined to do so. Black voting percentages will probably be a lot higher than white.
What I haven’t seen reported on yet regarding the 53,000 ‘pending’ registrations is this: I believe the law (HB268) says the SoS has to reach out to the applicant to let them know their application is on hold. Have they done that? To all 53,000? Have they gotten any responses back? How many? Are those being vetted and processed?
And when did the bulk of these 53,000 applications come in? How long have they been sitting around?
The most relevant language I can find is this:
343 (1) The board of registrars matching the Georgia driver’s license number, identification card number of an identification card issued pursuant to Article 5 of Chapter 5 of Title 40, or the last four digits of the social security number provided by the applicant with the applicant’s record on file with the Department of Driver Services or the federal Social Security Administration;
and
370 (4) The voter application shall be rejected if the Georgia driver’s license number, identification card number of an identification card issued pursuant to Article 5 of Chapter 5 of Title 40, or last four digits of the social security number provided by the applicant is not verified and the applicant fails to present sufficient evidence to the board of registrars to verify the applicant’s identity within 26 months following the date of the application.
I don’t see anything about hyphenated names or street numbers not matching exactly. So is there some discretion allowed that they are interpreting very strictly?

Okay, too much is TOO much!! 4,000+ Hondourans headed to storm America’s international border. NGOs going down there and recruiting, bringing in vans that stop and let them out for photo ops, then paying $5000 per family to drug cartels to smuggle them into the US. And these pictures don’t look like families to me – mostly young men. Homeland Security reports that there are repeated sexual assaults on women and children in these caravans, and it is all beyond belief to me.
The NGOs have coached them to claim the magic words “critical fear” when in reality it is all about economics. Poor people who find the US taxpayers to be the land of milk and honey, as well as illegally taking jobs away from lower class Americans. This madness has got to stop!! I’m sure you could round up a bunch of poor Americans who would love to storm the borders of and enjoy the luxury of Bill Gates estate, Bill & Hillary Clinton’s estate, Barack and Michele Obama’s estate, the Kennedy estate, etc. of wealthy Democrats (who created this madness) around the country, who have inflicted this chaos on the middle and lower class Americans.
According to the recent US Census Dept. update, there are over 24 million illegal aliens living in America, plus all the tens of thousands who have crashed the borders since that update. It seems Trump shares your alarm and concern. He’s gonna send our troops to the border to stop it. Close the southern border. This is a deliberate invasion. He needs to tell Mexico to not only stop the illegal advance through their own country but to physically turn this invasion back from whence it came.
It sure is a deliberate invasion, and I just hope he does that. I heard about this while driving home this afternoon, and they were rattling on about “not in the budget” b/s. POTUS needs to call out the National Guard or US troops to defend the southern international border, close it until further notice. Give the US system time to process all the people already inside our borders illegally, as well as time to assimilate, Americanize all the foreigners who are here legally but instead of assimilating have set up microcosms of foreign countries in our midst and refuse to even speak English in the public square. They either want to be Americans or they don’t. If not, there’s the road (or a boat).
Nothing in the budget is more important than protecting this country from invading hordes of people who are at the very least thieves, stealing from American taxpayers and workers. And at worst, violent mobs in the streets of America and our nation’s capitol, accosting US Senators and Congressmen in the halls and elevators of the US Capitol Bldg, disrupting American civilization, flooding the US with drugs and human trafficking, murders, rapes, breaking into homes and businesses, etc. of uncivilized behavior to no end.

Re your questions about NGO activity, I invite you to look at the State Dept. budget for funding numerous NGOs and the activities for which intended. H&HS Dept. also has a pot of money for the same purpose. Also spend some time reading the websites of some of those same NGOs and their own descriptions of their activities, including going to other countries and recruiting people to bring to this country, filling out their papers for them, providing transportation however necessary, etc. Also, have you never seen the videos and TV coverage of drug cartels being stopped at the border with trucks, when doors open, illegals pour out. Then behind them, the agents find bundles of drugs that had been camouflaged by the people.
Have you never seen the reports of the going rate being $5,000 for “a family”, which is why some children are being grabbed by adults who don’t have kids to be a pretend “family”, then left in US custody once the adults get across the border and we can’t find parents to reunite. I also have an acquaintance who runs one of the refugee/immigration NGOs here in Georgia who must remain nameless, but has told me quite a bit about the operation. Yes, I agree that unscrupulous employers are part of the problem, but if the illegal aliens were not allowed to be in the US, employers would not be able to hire them. They’d have to hire regular Americans instead of passing them over. Do you really think it’s a good thing for US taxpayers to facilitate the conditions you describe? I don’t.
I disagree about our international border – it is very much physical boundary for our collective “house” or home. Everything America rests within. Just like the billionaire Democrats’ estate grounds. Re churches, my family church and all those I know have always provided food, shelter, medical care, etc. to people in other countries. It’s called foreign mission work. We have always provided help to Americans in need, called home mission work. Our government has always funded NGOs to provide foreign aid in other countries. But no church or NGO should break US law in the mane of being “nice” by aiding and abetting illegal migration into America.

I plan on doing exactly what I did. The problem is that if I use the criteria that both sides are complaining about I would be deleting just about every other post. You guys are really bad at having calm, rational discussions. It’s depressing.

I hate getting into conversations not about transportation, but after Michael and my grandmother losing her entire pecan crop just as it was about to mature, Sally, DTM, NoWay, south Georgia agriculture relies on immigrants to pick the crops. My uncle can’t find US citizens willing to work for him. Not only on driving the harvesters for the pecans (which won’t be needed this year because of Michael), but to install the irrigation systems, plant the trees, spray the roundup… what is your alternative to the fact that the largest industry in Georgia, agriculture, is dependent on immigrant workers?
And it isn’t just pecans, it is cotton, peanuts, blueberries..

Without immigrant labor, and this is an opinion based on my experience, agricultural economies, especially in the high value areas like raspberries, strawberries (one of Floridas biggest crops now since they produce two seasons off California), and other produce hand picked, what do we do without immigrant labor?
Here is the problem…. The Stephen Miller proposal is build a wall, AND lower the number of legal immigrates and work visas. Think back to last march or so when Graham and Durben and worked out a deal which the pres said he liked and to have the two of them stop by that afternoon, only to be blindsided by Miller, Kelly and Sens Cotton and Perdue to basically have the wall and DACA but limit all legal immigration… It was the famous ****whole meeting.

Here is one of the problems. Trump cut the number of seasonal workers allowed to work way down. However he made sure he got all the seasonal workers needed for HIS properties while the little guy has to suffer and close or cut down his business.
These people don’t want to vote. They want to work. That they want to vote is the straw argument. They want to send money home to their families that they have earned picking up pecans after the sweeper has picked up most of them. And yes, pecans. My dad had to put a wallet in a mans mouth who was having an elliptic fit in the field and didn’t want to go to a hospital because he was not here lefather didn’t know that he wasn’t legal, but he is a true Christian and helped a man in need.
My family has been farming in south Georgia since they moved from Rome, GA in the 1880s. Pecans, cotton, cow’s,…. My aunt is a DAR (my grandmother thought it was too pretentious).
