[Late] Morning Reads – Wednesday, November 14, 2018
Welcome to the day after, plus a week.
The election still hasn’t been certified and people are getting arrested because rules don’t apply anymore… go figure.
Here is some stuff that is going on:
Amazon isn’t coming here, but here was the bid package.
More UGA v Alabama talk… this time defense.
Georgia Water Coalition released their annual “Dirty Dozen”
Atlanta’s Center for Puppetry Arts houses the world’s most complete collection of Jim Henson artifacts
Georgia’s presidential election run-off is getting a little heated.
50 Days until a new Speaker is elected. God help us all.
Can blockchain save us from everything?

Typically, state capitol protests are held outside. Why was the one yesterday different?
The obvious answer is that the SoS offices are inside the Capitol.
Again typically they are not if the ruling party is in agreement with your protest (and if you call it a rally). Case in point would be Ralph Reed’s protest of the firing of Fire Chief Kevin Cochran as a RFRA poster child in January of 2015.
More of that there “Whataboutism!’ Wow!
So every legal precedence is whataboutism to you? My point is that the Capitol Police and their handlers should follow the laws written, each and every time or not at all. I am citing recent examples where that has not been followed, not your citations of 60 or 70 years ago and/or the actions of an individual being assigned to a “side”, which is typically why you are called out on whatabouts.
Was Ralphie Reed on facebook live, chanting with a crowd?
I have little patience with two wrongs one right logic. The situations are seldom comparable. Especially when one was three years ago, and little noted at the time.
The common sense rules of decorum inside the Capitol should be followed. If you want to act the fool, you can go to Liberty Plaza.
BTB, the votes are being counted by the counties, not the Secretary of State. That was a phony issue all along.
Actually Ralph has done it at least 3 times since Liberty Plaza was constructed and I cited it on here each time as a violation of the law. The only time F&F has been relegated to Liberty Plaza was when Billy Graham’s son came down from the mountain to speak. In my view singing hymns, speechmaking over loudspeakers, and even prayers to 3 gods is also a violation of the law as written and just as disruptive to the State’s business. I don’t justify it as wrongs making a right, I am advocating for consistency in the Capitol Police and their handler’s enforcement of the law. They cannot correct the past but going forward they better treat everyone as they did yesterday.
“the votes are being counted by the counties, not the Secretary of State. ”
1) Sec’y of State office has the still-warm desk chair of Kemp, who for some reason holds an important role in the argument about counting votes;
2) It still has ultimate authority to certify the votes;
3) SoS is the Defendant in what- 3 pending lawsuits?
4) Protesting is by design intended to attract attention and make statements, so going to various counties would have been ineffective and inefficient.
All the boo-hoos about decorum seem like they belong in the Victorian era.
My line is non-violence, including getting too close or shouting in people’s faces.
But there are also ways they could administer the space better.
Rats, TDD beat me to posting the DWC’s Dirty Dozen list. I’m particularly interested in the proposed Apalachee River intake since Oconee County owns a piece of the Walton County reservoir which the intake would feed. But the reservoir is already full with more than ample inflow, and oh yeah, there’s zero demand for the water already stored.
Well worth a read.
Even Fox stands with CNN vs. White House.

The race for House Minority Leader should be fun too, especially now that Trump is, get ready for it, ‘playing peacemaker’. Doug Collins’ turn as ranking goper on Judiciary could be collateral damage as Jim Jordan presses.

So how come their was no media fuss praising Deal, a republican, for appointing Crittenden, the first African-American woman to serve as a statewide constitutional officer,in Georgia history? I guess that doesn’t fit into the Dem’s “all the repubs are white racist” narative?
Well somebody made a fuss about it if you know about it. What are ‘we’ supposed to do? Have a parade?
Since she will not be able to run for the office with an “I” beside her name as Kemp did it is of little consequence.
The phrase “a day late and a dollar short” comes to mind.
Except it’s much more than a dollar and a day.
The last analysis I remember on Deal’s use of appointment powers was about his Court picks– where it found a noticeable decrease in racial diversity with a slight uptick in gender balance. I would be curious about an analysis of his overall use of appointments- to Boards, etc.
As I said before I don’t care what race, gender, or religious preference they are. As long as he appoints the best conservative pro small government to the job, I am good with the pick.
Blockchain can’t solve any problem, period.
They could create some new ones though.
Democrat 2020 Darling arrested for domestic violence! I think his favorable ratings , for this particular party, just skyrocketed!

The story I read said he “grab her by the p…y”. I guess he’s not a celebrity.
Oh, if he had only body slammed her he would been in line for John Kelly’s job.
I cannot wait for the memes.

Also, Captain Crunch and Count Chocula can finally vote.

Is this an official sign of dementia?
Extreme disrespect for the intelligence of voters?
Extreme vetting of the “poorly educated”?
Just the same old compulsive “hyperbole” (lying)?
Because no way even Noway believes that stuff.
She keeps the chair warm for a short while, and with Kemp’s resignation there is one less white guy in an SoS department consisting of hundreds, if not thousands of people. That really moves the needle. Until the runoff that is and things are as they were.
